We had gone at least 7 minutes into 'staring contest' when we made it to the other side and his green eyes flooded with blue. "Keep them green...please?" I asked him as he removed his hands from my cheeks. He blinked and they were green again. "Okay..." he said, giving me his signature smile. I looked away from him finally and saw how much destruction was riddled throughout 'New York'.
I turned on my heel and pushed him into the nearest alleyway, my hands flat on his chest pinning him against the brick wall. "You did this?" I said, a threating tone leaking into my voice. His blonde hair lengthened, framing his face and turning the colour of a raven's dark feathers. His clothes changed from a chequered red and white shirt to green asgardian robes. Loki was Loki again. He gave me a menacing smile and a soft chuckle escaped his mouth. "Don't laugh at this serious matter Loki. Tell me the truth!" I shoved him in the shoulder, a pained moan escaped his mouth as the back of his shoulder hit the wall. "Yes, I was responsible for the destruction in this city, but I failed and got beaten by a green giant." The last words about a 'green giant' seemed to confuse me. He laughed as my eyes widened at his words. He began to explain the whole twisted story.
"Loki...you do understand, that what you did was pure evil beyond measure right?" I had let go of him and crossed my legs as I sat down on the ground, he joined me as he had begun the story of how he had almost taken over the small city of New York and how the 'avengers' had stopped him in his path. "I did what I thought was right." Loki persisted. "You should be glad I'm still friends with you right now Loki." He gave me an inquisitive look, "We're still friends?" he questioned me for an answer I had already gave him. I nodded, he gave me a grateful smile. "You're my only friend too." He filled the quiet air with these words. The sky had already started to darken and we had nowhere to sleep.
Loki transformed back into the blonde man with the chequered shirt as he guided me to what the humans called a 'hotel'. It was where an innkeeper of sorts would let people stay in rooms for currency. Money appeared in his tan hand as he handed it to the greasy, bald-headed innkeeper. When we got to a door that was numbered '27', Loki opened the door to a bedroom with floral patterns decorating the room, including the quilt on the king sized bed.
"A double bed?!" I cried out, the innkeeper must have made some sort of mistake, we weren't a couple. I mean this was probably some sick joke he plays on all those 'duos' who come in with; one girl, bare and dirty footed, dirt smeared on her face and torn dress. One man, who was in disguise and looked like he had just picked this girl off the motor way and planned to 'do' something with her. I was gonna give that slimy pig a piece of my mind next time I see him. I turned around to go back the way we came and 'talk' to the innkeeper, but Loki was standing in front of the door. "Loki? Excuse me please." I ordered him politely as I tried to get past him, but he was keeping me from getting to the entrance/exit.
"That won't be necessary, if you do that we could ruin our reputation." Loki lisped, I really didn't want to know what he meant by 'reputation'. "Loki...fine. I'll sleep in the bathroom." I turned towards the small 'pristine' room, only to find that the bath I had intended in sleeping in was covered in dirt and had sludge bubbling out of the plug hole. I shivered, but soon after a felt to slender hands cover my shoulders. "I'll sleep on the floor, you can sleep in the bed." Loki smiled faintly at me over my left shoulder.
I had landed on the surprisingly soft bed, falling asleep without pulling the quilt over me and it got a bit chilly. Before I woke up enough to pull it up to my chest, I felt slender hands pull the warmness up to my neck, I could feel his gaze on me as I drifted into a deep slumber. "Good night." I heard him whisper to my ear as I let go of the last piece of consciousness I had. My dreams, I could say, weren't pleasant. I was running in an eternal darkness, running from nothing and to nothing. 'So what am I running from?' I thought to myself. But then I saw the tank, and inside it was a drowning Loki, but there was no water. It scared me all the same, I bashed on the glass. Trying to make some sort of crack with no luck. I looked around frantically for something to throw at the glass keeping me from the god of mischief, when a rock that wasn't there before appeared at my feet. I picked it up with unexpected ease and threw it at the glass, shattering under the rocks touch and hitting Loki in the head at same time.
I shot up in the bed, the quilt tumbling off of my torso, a strangled gasp leaving my mouth. "Mairi, are you alright?" a voice came from the darkness. "Loki? Switch the light on please?" I asked him politely. The light snapped into existence and I felt the sweat on my skin. I was shaking and my breath was trembling. Loki in his true form, rushed to my side from upon the floor and grasped my hands within his. "I'm here, don't worry. Please, don't worry." Loki pleaded, squeezing my hands under his grasp. That was when I realised I was sleeping with the bangle on. I ripped from his grasp and grappled at the band of gold, watching it carefully like it was a live animal. When it was removed from my skin, I felt my fur start to grow back around my body and I saw my tail start to grow out of my dress faster than last time. My ears picked up the sound of multiple sirens going off in the distance as I felt a lump develop in my throat.
"I had a terrible dream..." I mumbled into my knees which were now tucked up to my chest. "I think those are defined as 'nightmares'" he said the word like it was a long lost enemy. "It was still terrible..." I combed through my hair as the memories of the 'nightmare' came back in unpleasant rushes, seeing him writhe in agony like that made me want to tell him everything. Tears blurred my vision as I started to shake. I felt Loki's arms tighten around me as he pulled me into his lap, I turned into his chest and started to sob a strangled sound escaping from my lips. "Don't leave me...please..." I breathed into his chest. "I will never leave you again." He confirmed, pressing his lips to my temple. I'm pretty sure it was meant as a comforting gesture in a friend way, but it felt more than that.
The sun peeked out of the gap between the curtains as Loki rocked me in his arms in an attempt to calm me. When the sun's warm rays fell on my fur I felt that pleasuring feeling again and for a moment I was in a pool of bliss. But I felt Loki's laughter on my ears as he felt me purring underneath his chest and snapped back to reality. "Let's find somewhere we can come up with some sort of 'plan'." Loki said the words like it was hard to. I realised we had come here and improvised completely. "I wanna find out more about this planet." I gasped into his torso as he started to get up. "You will as we go...I guarantee it." Loki offered his hand to me, I took it and got up. Snatching the golden bangle from the bedside table.
The morning air was quiet but there were cars rushing down the street every once in a while. Loki in his 'cowboy joe' disguise, had has arm slung protectively around my shoulders, almost claiming me as his 'property' when other men eyed my bare feet as they walked past, thinking I was some sort of tramp. They don't even know the half of it. That strangers to their planet are walking among them. "Maybe we should get some new clothes." I pointed out at my torn dress...I was kind of worried though, I've managed to keep it for seventeen years (if you're wondering why it still fits me, it's because surprisingly it would grow every time I shape shifted so it would fit me the next time I was in my natural form.) and now it was beyond repair. I woke up in it all those years ago when I couldn't remember where I was.
"You can...I'm fine the way I am." He gestured to his clean and untorn clothes. "Alright..." I made my way to what looked like a decent clothing retailer called 'Primark' it said in Blue writing above the door. Loki followed me obediently, which was surprising from him. I browsed through the shop with a basket in hand. I had already thrown two black tank tops in it and a matching pair of shorts. I came across a T-Shirt that caught my eye. It had a blue lion roaring on it. It had the words 'within a crowd of strangers, there is someone different'. I immediately threw it in the basket without a second thought.
When I had purchased the items with Loki's 'money' I rushed into the changing room to put the new clothes and the pair of shoes on. When I came out Loki was surprised at how well the clothes fit me, "It's almost like they are made for you..." he mumbled poking at my waist. I didn't know why he was like this, like he was flirting with me but at the same time it felt like he was just messing with me. When he looked back up at me he had light tinge of pink splashed on his pale cheeks, and I was pretty sure I was blushing too, this time it was out in the open since I had bare skin.
