~Present day~17 years later~

The beam shot me down onto the multi-coloured road, the transport room was gone and the end of the road looked like it had been snapped off. The Gatekeeper was still watching the universe at the end of the road. "Gatekeeper?" I called him out, he turned towards me clunking in his heavy armour. "Welcome back to Asgard, Mairi." He welcomed me briefly "Hello, I came back, after 17 years." I said out of breath, truth is I had been running before the Gate Keeper transported me back to Asgard, I was excited to see my old friend again. "Where is Prince Loki, in the palace I presume?" I ask him my blue eyes prominent to his gold ones. "Yes but-"I cut him off "Thank you, see you soon" I ran off in the form of a midgardian lion.

I arrived at the palace and...you're never gonna believe it, knocked on the door. A blonde muscly man answered the door and stood in the doorway as he took in my appearance. "Hello?" he said it like a question "Hi, my name is Mairi and you've probably never met me before but I'm a friend of Prince Loki..." I waited for a reply from the blonde man but he just stood in the doorway like I had just slapped him. "Um...is something the matter?" I asked him. "I'm Loki's brother, Thor." I couldn't believe it as Thor held out a beefy hand for me to shake. "Thor? You've grown...a lot" I added taking in his own appearance. "I don't think we have met before." Thor mentioned a confused look in his eye. "Oh...sorry, do you remember a prank Loki and I played on you. We planted stink bombs in your room and you charged out with green slime in your hair." I almost laughed out loud as the memory came back to me. "That was over 17 years ago..." Thor said with an amused look in his eye. "Can I see Loki...please?" I asked almost forgetting my manners. "Of course." He let me in the palace, a frown suddenly appearing on his face.

I didn't know Loki had his bedroom under the palace but when we got there I finally saw that we were in the prison. "No..." I whispered to myself. No, no...NO! I screamed repeatedly in my mind. We turned a corner and I finally saw him...Loki, after 17 years I find him in a prison cell surrounded by monsters. I rushed to the force field holding him in there and almost shocked myself by placing my hand on the field, but Thor caught my hand before it fell onto the surface. "That could put you in a coma...Loki, you have a visitor." Thor called out to his brother who had his eyes closed as he leaned against the back wall of his cell. His emerald eyes snapped open at the sound of his name. "Mairi?" Loki's eyes rested on me with surprise after he glared at his brother. I turned towards Thor, "Can you let me inside the cell please?" I pleaded him. "It is acceptable." He said matter of factly. A door appeared next to me and I opened it, letting myself inside Loki's cell.

The first thing I did was stride right up to him and slapped him right in the face. "OW!" he cried out. "Shut up, you'll get over it." I snapped at him. "Bitter as always Mairi." He smiled up at me, I just melted in front of him. I folded my arms around his neck and started to sob. He patted my back softly, "L-Loki I was wrong...I have no family...my species is almost extinct!" I cried into his shoulder and told him how I had got to my planet but found it uninhabited. I had spent seventeen years surviving on it and travelling around the small world. Only to have no luck. He pulled my face away from his shoulder and looked into my eyes with his thumb resting on my chin. "You've grown into a beautiful woman though Mairi. You look amazing." He complimented my appearance. I smiled at him tears still pricking in my eyes. He wiped them away with his other thumb. "You don't look to bad yourself." I said admiring how he had turned into such a handsome man over the years. He was no longer that raven haired boy I left in the teleporting room. "You know, I thought about you every day for the last seventeen years." Loki mentioned suddenly. I chuckled at his comment, "I did about you too. You are my only friend Loki." I reminded him.

We avoided the conversation about how he got into prison we just seated ourselves at the small table in his cell and had a civilised conversation about what Loki had been doing over the years and his pranks he countlessly played on Thor. I told him of the other creatures I had found on my home planet, such as Gazelle and different species of birds and mice. He was very interested in the information I told him about of my home planet. I asked how his family was and Loki told me that they weren't his family. I was confused at this statement as he told me that he was actually a frost giant spawn. I was surprised but not shocked, we were both outcasts and most likely criminals since I was still a thief for stealing that book all those years ago. "I'll come back tomorrow." I told him after Thor told me it was time to go, I stood up and headed towards the door. "Promise?" this made me stop in my tracks, I turned towards the raven haired man and returned the smile he was giving me. "Promise."

~That night~

I laid in a tree and pondered over multiple thoughts, all leading to Loki. I wondered why I couldn't get him out of my mind, a fluttery feeling settled in my stomach as I confirmed that, I, Mairi, had fallen in love with the god of mischief. I recalled how he had wiped the tears off my cheeks with his thumb and I touched my face where he had touched me. He was my only friend, I didn't want to ruin that relationship by flushing it down the drain. That's when it hit me...I needed to get him out of that prison. I thought about how I could do this deeply for a moment and dropped from the tree. I was most certainly not going to sleep tonight.

I sneaked through the window I had gone through all those years ago last time I was in the palace. I used my claws to climb up the wall and landed in the long forgotten library. It was dark but my eyes soon adjusted since in my natural form I could see in the dark. I scanned the room for guards, but the place was deserted. I strode alongside the shelves and looked at the now un-touched, dust covered books. This library wasn't similar to the one I had snook into seventeen years ago. That's when I saw the locked doors.

"What? No!" I whisper screamed to myself as I hopelessly tugged at the lock. The doors were chained shut and the only way I would get past them is a noisy way, but it was worth the risk. I backed up and while doing so shifted into a Rhino, then charged. The doors effortlessly clattered to the floor as my horn pierced through the middle of them. I changed back into my natural form only to be greeted by far off shouts of guards. I changed into a lion and ran a steady pace of 50 mph.

When I got to the prison, monsters in every corner called out to me to let them out. I roared at them and it made them shut up. When I made it to Loki's cell he stared at me in amazement, "Mairi?" he called out, I changed into my natural form before him. "Well duh! Who else do you know can change into blue animals?" Loki laughed at my comment and gave me that white smile I loved. I got the rock I had carried in out of my pack tied around my waist and hoped my plan would work. I then threw it against the shield keeping me from Loki.

I took my arms away from my face to see the shield had shattered like glass and Loki was standing before me, shocked. "Well...come on! The guards will be here soon!" I gestured for him to run with me. But he just grabbed my hand and teleported me outside like when we pranked Thor. I shivered at the chill lingering on my bare shoulders in the aftermath of Loki's teleportation. "So, what now?" Loki asked from beside me, he was still holding my hand and it made me blush underneath my fur. "Um...I didn't think this through..." I mumbled, hoping he wouldn't hear me. "That's alright...we can improvise." He dragged me to the bridge and ordered me to act like a hostage, "Are you crazy?" I asked him "Probably." He said after a long pause. But I did what he asked me to anyway letting him grip me around the waist and a knife that appeared in his hand was pressed lightly against my throat. "Take us to Midgard or I'll slit her throat!" Loki threatened, The Gatekeeper turned slowly towards and caught the glimpse of pure fear I gave him, I was scared I was gonna slip and he would accidentally slit my throat.
