Kayla's POV

"I thought I told you to be safe," Mamaw Helen said coming up behind me and hanging me a cookie.

I smiled. "What do you mean, mamaw?" I asked, taking a bite of the cookie.

"Exactly that," she said pointing to my left hand, which rested protectively over my belly. I swallowed and moved my hand down to beside me. She smiled and sat down next to me on the couch. "So," she said, "How far along are you?"

I shrugged. "A month and a half, we think," I said, "I haven't been to the doctor yet."

She nodded. "But I thought I'd told you to be safe," she said, laughing at me.

I smiled and could feel myself blushing. "Well, we have been, except this one time last month. It was our anniversary, and...well...we got just a little bit drunk."

"A little bit?"

I smiled. "Okay, a lottle bit." I said laughing with her, "We thought we had used protection, but..." I shrugged, "And birth control is effective, but not all of the time," I said.

"I know," mamaw said, "but how are you going to tell your mom?"

"Please tell me she already knows and you were just sent to confirm it?"

She shook her head. "Jeremy has taken a lot of her attention, and," she said looking at where Niall hurried into the living room and snuggled close to me, halfway terrified of mom, "she's had too much fun with that boy of yours," she said laughing at the big guy hiding behind me.

I laughed and patted Niall's head. "What'd she do now?" I asked.

"She looked at me,"

"That's it?"

He nodded.

"You're just like Cheyenne, good God," I said, unknowingly sliding my hand over my stomach again. He slid his hand over my stomach also, and entangled our fingers together.

"Okay, will you tell me?" Mom gruffly asked as she walked into the living room and pointed at me and Niall.

My eyes got wide and my heart started racing. "Tell you what, mom?" I asked.

She looked at me with a bit of an attitude, and I didn't appreciate that very much. "I'm not stupid," she said, "I know he knocked you up, now just tell me,"

"How'd you figure it out?" I asked.

"Same way your mamaw probably did," she said, coming over and sitting on the loveseat near the couch. "The way both of you keep your hands on your stomach, like you're protecting something. You're pregnant,"

Well, thank God I didn't have to actually tell her. I nodded and she blew air out of her mouth. "Figures," she said.

"Mom!"

"What?" she asked, "Okay, fine, sorry, but with this boy, I wasn't expecting anything less."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"Well, look at him;" she said grinning, "he's beautiful,"

I smiled sheepishly, and then nodded, looking down at Niall. He hadn't dyed his hair back for a while, so his roots were showing with bleach blond tips. I love his hair that way the best.

"How far along are you?" she asked.

"About a month and a half," I said.

She nodded. "Your daddy isn't going to be happy," she said.

Fuck, I forgot about dad. "Yeah, I know," I said.

"Least you met this boy after you graduated college," mom said, "I mean, I don't know if this would have happened when you were in college, but it would have sucked if it did,"
