Joséphine Seignar sat idly in a Hogwarts compartment, staring almost confused at the diamond ring that was perched elegantly on her ring finger.

When first arriving at platform 9 3/4 she had barely glanced around before running off and claiming a compartment to think, even ignoring her parents in favour of a proper farewell.

Staring at the ring once more, Joséphine couldn't help but think how perfect the thing really was as well as how it was not perfect for her.

She had been told that the ring was a family heirloom and that apparently James had had it for the last year, adding several changes and adjustments.

She also couldn't help but think about when he had given her the ring and the untraditional way he proposed to her.

"I don't want to marry you."

Josephine shot her gaze up towards the lanky boy with the sloppy glasses, her eyes a harsh glare from when she was willing the rug to set on fire.

It had been the first words that he had spoken to her since they had both yelled and screamed at the parents after the huge bomb they tossed at them.

"I don't want to marry you either."

He looked over at her, his eyes holding surprise. It was if he thought that she had teamed up with both their parents into dubbing him into marrying her.

His brown eyes seemed to study her with a calculating gaze, seeing if there was any sort of falseness to her statement.

After about a minute he nodded his head, a hard determined look now in his eyes.

"Good." He moved his body so he was in a rebel sort of pose. "Then you'll help me in getting this called off?"

Josephine only nodded her head, feeling no need to speak to get her point across.

A silence fell between the two, a new air of determination settling.

After a couple of minutes, Joséphine could no longer hold down the questions.

"Who is she?"

James Potter looked up, surprised that she had broken the comfortable silence.

He thought about not answering, a part of him not wanting her to have some power against him, and Lily Evans was by far his weakness and she could exploit that if she saw fit.

Instead of answering he threw her the ring he had been carrying the whole holidays. He didn't know why, but he knew for sure that it was the ring he would propose to Lily with if she ever gave him a chance.

It was slightly altered after James had passed a jewelers in the summer and adjusted it the way he knew that Lily would absolutely love.

Staring at the ring in confusion, Joséphine looked up to see a thoughtful expression on the young potters face.

"Lily."

"Huh?"

"Her name, its Lily. Middle name Marigold. She has fiery red hair and emerald green eyes in the shape of almonds. Her skin is so pale that sometimes I find myself counting the freckles that are splattered across her button nose."

Joséphine didn't know what to say, not expecting him to be so open and honest. Seeing the transfixed look on his face she decided it was best to stay quiet and listen to the boy who was so obviously in love with this Lily girl.
