I go home and mom stands up from the couch. "Hey Grace," she hugs me.
"What happened?" I ask.
"Xavier is in the hospital with grandma, we need to go as soon as possible... I didn't want to text you because I assumed you guys liked each other."
I blushed. But that wasn't important. "Mom lets go..." I say as I grab the keys and head out to our black jeep.
"Xavier got ran over and is in a critical coma," she explained while turning the corner of Pine and 17th.
"Oh my god... are we pressing charges?" I questioned.
"A witness did say the lady was texting."
"Mom we need to press charges."
"But if we don't win the lawsuit that is a lot of money to owe," she said as we parked into the closest parking spot we could find.
I sprinted through the doors and up to the lady. Mom following close behind.
Mom pushed me aside and asked the lady, "My son, Xavier Senther, do you have his room number?"
"Hold on," the lady began clicking things rapidly. "Yes he is right here. He is your son?"
"Yes my name is Amanda Senther," Mom said quickly.
The lady hummed, "Yes that is correct. His room number is 367 on the third floor," she smiled politely.
"Thank you," mom grabbed my arm as we headed for the elevator.
We clicked floor three and was there within 20 seconds. I bursted out of the elevator doors and drug mom. Room 363... 364.... 365... 366... and there was 367. I knocked on the door and a nurse opened it. "Hello, who are you?"
"I am Xavier's sister!" I cried. Mom was at room 359 right now.
"I can't let you in without parental guidance and a formal ID..." she said with a pouty lip.
My grandmother pushed her aside, "Oh I know her Nurse Kathy, let her in... and that crazy lady following." Grandmother let out a chuckle.
Mom smiled and entered. There was little Xavier. I rushed to his bedside, he was breathing very lightly. You could see so many scars. I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. I needed to be strong for grandmother and mom.
"He will probably not die. But won't be awake for another few weeks," Nurse Kathy grabbed ahold of my shoulder.
"Will he remember anything?" I asked.
"Well, he does have a bad concussion. He might not remember what happened. He will probably remember most of his life though," Nurse Kathy explained in a soft voice.
"I hope he remembers to feed Lenny," mom joked.
I glared at her. This was not funny.
Mom coughed. "That was awful, Grace. Sorry"
I shook my head and stroked Xavier's arm. I had tears at the brim of my eyes. But I couldn't cry. Then I would let the two most important people in my life down.
I had to stay strong for my own sake.
Then a knock was at the door. Nurse Kathy popped her head through. Stepped outside. Talked for about 3 minutes. Whilst all three of us were confused. Then a familiar scent filled my nose. My dad walked through the door.
"What are you doing here? How did you find out?" Mom was very panicked.
"This is my son... I found out on Twitter. Your daughter? Yeah she tweeted this," dad pulled his phone out and showed the tweet.
I did tweet something. But I didn't tell you guys. The tweet said
Why can't you put your damn phone away and pay attention? You almost killed my brother because of it
"Dad now is not the best time," I tried pushing him.
"THIS IS MY SON!" he screamed and shoved me. I fell into the wall.
Nurse Kathy soothed him and reassured all of us.
"Daniel I don't think you need to be involved, you almost killed him two years ago," grandmother stood up.
"Karen shush. That was two years ago," he pushed it aside like it wasn't a big deal.
"Dad please," I pleaded.
He sat in my seat. I was just picking myself up.
How could he have done this. Why did he not care and then all of a sudden care?
What's going on?
