I return to school the next day, Xavier still crammed in that hospital. I sit where Adrian told me to meet him. Adrian slaps his tray right across from mine. He looks me in the eye and smiled, "What's wrong? You didn't get all nervous and blush back."
I coughed and my breath shook. He immediately scooted his tray across and ran around the table, "My- br- brother got ran over and is in a severe coma."
Adrian hugged me and kissed the top of my head. We weren't even dating. We have known each other for only 2 days. This is a weird relationship.
"It's going to be okay," a soft voice said from behind me.
"Who are you?" I asked releasing myself from Adrian's grip.
"I have been listening to you... stalkerish. I know. But my mother is Nurse Kathy. She told me about him," she smiled.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Excuse me. I am Savannah," she stuck her hand out.
"Ahh, yes I know you. Star of the basketball team," Adrian said.
Savannah blushed and said, "Yes. And you are the quarterback for the football team."
"Yeah I'm the nobody for the losers," I rolled my eyes.
Adrian and Savannah chuckled at the same time.
"Hey how about you go out for a sport?" Savannah suggested. Her make up was perfect for her dark-skin. I notice random things I guess...
"Ehh... I'm more of a dancer. And I do not want to go out for the dance team. It really isn't real dancing," I sighed.
I picked up my tray and dumped all the food down the garage.I walked into room 367. Father was stroking Xavier's arm. It was only them and me.
"D-dad..." i stammered.
"Hi Grace," he said casually.
"I have a question for you... why did you all of the sudden care?"
"You will have to wait and find out, oh and stay away from that Adrian dude. He is bad news," dad said raising his eyebrows.
"You don't know a thing about him!" I yelled.
"You have known him for two days!" Dad screamed louder.
"Just leave. You are the bad news," I whispered.
Dad took a breath and stood up. He came at me. Not charging, but more of a slow walk. "Grace I love you. I care about you. I don't want to be a bad dad. I wa-" he tried to finish.
"Too late. You walked out on us," I gasped for air. Great... another panic attack.
"Grace I wa-"
"Dad I can't breath," I said airless.
"What?"
"I can't breath."
Dad stormed out of the room and I fell to the floor. I was getting dizzy.
"Room 367," a muffled voice called.
3 men in mint scrubs picked me up and took me away.
