Excitement and nervousness bubbled in Dipper's stomach.
He drummed his fingers on the table next to the drink he had ordered. He stared out the window. He had specifically chosen a table with two chairs that was right next to a window so he could look out to see if the other teen was entering the shop.
Dipper had received a text about fifteen minutes before that he was on his way.
Dipper's eyes darted around the shop. He was trying to keep himself distracted as he waited... He was also looking out for Mabel. She had joked that she was going to stalk Dipper on his "date", but he had a feeling she wasn't kidding. He hoped she was.
Another fifteen minutes passed and no sign of anyone.
Dipper had told him what he was wearing, so it wasn't like he wouldn't be able to spot him.
He quickly pulled out his phone to text him.
Hey, everything alright? I'm still here at the shop.
He didn't expect for the trip from his house to the shop to take over thirty minutes... But he still waited. Hoping that he was just late or got lost.
He waited ten minutes till he sent him another message... Maybe he missed the first one.
Hello? I'm waiting for you.
Twenty minutes passed. No sign of anyone and no texts. His heart had dropped and he was pissed.
I'm leaving.
Dipper angrily put his phone away and got up. He left the shop and walked back to the Mystery Shack, fuming.
He couldn't believe it. Though, he kind of expected it. He got along with him so well, and good things never seemed to work out for him. Dipper knew there was going to be a catch... There was always a catch...
He decided to text him on his way home.
I don't know what happened. I don't know if there was some kind of miscommunication or if something happened to you or what. I'm just disappointed and kind of pissed. I waited an hour for you and you never turned up. Like I said, it might have just been a misunderstanding, but then again, it probably wasn't. In most scenarios, it isn't a misunderstanding. You probably just changed your mind about me. Thanks for blowing me off.
He entered the gift shop and shut the door behind him. Wendy's head shot up from where she was behind the counter. She smiled when she saw him.
"Hey, Dipper! How'd it go?" Wendy asked. "Mabel told me about the guy you met on the website, by the way."
"I think you mean to ask how his date went, Wendy!" Mabel corrected and ran up to her brother. "But, yeah, how did it go?!"
"He didn't show up," Dipper grumbled, staring at the floor. "I should've seen it coming..."
Mabel frowned and hugged her twin brother, softly saying, "I'm sorry, Dipper..."
"It's fine," he sighed, hugging her back.
Mabel stepped back and Dipper leaned against the counter where Wendy was. Mabel started talking to Wendy when Dipper suddenly felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He thought about not looking because he didn't want to get his hopes up and think it was the guy... But he had already grabbed his phone to see what the notification was.
Surprisingly, it was from the guy.
- I'm so sorry. I don't know exactly what got into me. I didn't mean to blow you off. I got to the coffee shop, but I got nervous. Like I said, I haven't really had any friends in a long time... I haven't really talked to anyone in a long time, either. I got scared and anxious and backed out. It was selfish of me. I should have warned you that this might happen. I'm really sorry. I want to make it up to you, but I understand if you don't want anything to do with me. Whatever you want to do is fine with with me.
Dipper was actually shocked, but he immediately started sympathizing with him. He understood how hard it was to talk to people and especially for this guy who said he didn't have any friends or family.
It's fine. I understand, and of course I still want to talk to you. I understand that trying to meet and talk to people is hard. It's alright. I'm sorry I kind of snapped at you earlier... I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. You're a good guy and I know you wouldn't just blow me off.
- I'm glad you trust me... By the way, I think I might have saw you in the window before I left. Were you wearing a blue and white hat?
Dipper looked up at his own hat for a split moment before replied.
Yep. That was me!
- I remember you telling me that you weren't a looker, but I have to disagree. You're not bad looking at all, kid. You're adorable.
PFT NO SHUT UP
Dipper could feel his face heating up.
"What are you getting all flustered over?" Wendy chuckled.
Dipper hesitantly told her, "So, uh... Turns out the guy just got really nervous to talk to me and that's why he didn't show up... H-he said he saw me in the window, though... Pft, he said I'm adorable."
Wendy started laughing a bit while Mabel squealed and starting going on again about how perfect the two were for each other. Dipper just laughed a bit too and tried to block out Mabel's rambling.
