A/N: I'm sooo sorry for disappearing for so long. I started this chapter MONTHS ago but it was extremely difficult to write for some reason. So I decided to leave it and then come back to it once I got my inspiration back. And this is now I guess. After this chapter the exciting part will begin (it begins in this one sort of) and I'm sure future chapters will be easier to write then! To anyone who is still reading this despite my horrible updating schedule I love you <3

Darkness. Darkness was all I saw, all I felt. It enveloped me like a blanket during a cold winter night. Except the blanket was very welcomed then, but when it came to darkness I wanted nothing more than to push it away. Far, far away. ‘Leah!’ I strained my ears to hear better. ‘Leah can you hear me?’ The voice sounded familiar, but it was impossible for me to place it. ‘Come on wake up!’. A different voice said. ‘What’s happening? Is she okay?’. I could hear voices calling my name and deep down I knew they were nearby, yet they sounded miles and miles away. A wave of terror rushed through me and chilled me to my very core.
‘Wake up!’ I commanded myself, trying with all my strength to open my eyes. ‘Come on! You can do this’. I chanted over and over again. After a few attempts of trying and failing miserably, I felt myself losing hope. After all, I was extremely tired. Maybe I could give in to the darkness, even if it scared me, and rest for a little while. Maybe if I rested for a while, I would wake up and this would all be a nightmare. ‘Somebody call 911! We’re losing her!. The same familiar voice shouted, but to me it sounded as if the sounds were being distorted by water.
I heard crying and desperate shouting. ‘Her heartbeat is almost nonexistent!’ A voice I had not heard before said. ‘Where is the damn ambulance?’. I felt a strong pressure against my chest, but it did nothing. ‘Oh my god she’s not breathing!’. I heard what I thought was a feminine voice whimper, followed by sobbing. A distant siren started lulling me to sleep. As the sound got closer, the more I felt myself giving in to the darkness. ‘She’s… gone’. That was the last thing I heard before giving in completely.
Excruciating pain in my chest woke me up. I sat upright immediately, as on impulse, but my head throbbed in protest. A pair of strong hands grabbed my shoulders and pushed me back. Harsh, bright light greeted my eyes and as much as I squinted they wouldn’t get accustomed to it. I gave up and closed them again. The next thing I felt was my throat. It was so dry it hurt when I tried to swallow. It was as rough as sandpaper.
“She’s back!” said a deep voice next to me. I winced. Why did he have to be so loud? It literally felt like someone was hitting my skull with a hammer from the inside. Groaning I tried moving. Bad choice. Any movement caused ripples of pain to shoot through my whole body, making me wish I was passed out again. Where was the stupid darkness when you really needed it?
I dared a peek at my surroundings but all I saw were metal walls and my mom sitting next to me. We made eye contact for a split second and she immediately stood up. “Miss please sit down and remain calm.” A paramedic sitting somewhere behind me said. “She’s very weak, we will have to put her back to sleep.” I looked at my mom as something pinched my arm. Seconds later I was out again.

I couldn’t see anything. I should’ve felt scared but somehow I felt the complete opposite: safe. I heard myself giggle and try to take off whatever was blocking my view.
“Is my little Leah a cheater?” A voice asked. My dad’s voice.
“I want to see my birthday present already!” I exclaimed giggling.
