I arrived home an hour before dinner was ready, and took advantage of the little time I had left to ‘study’ for the Spanish test I was completely sure I would ace. Summer was only three days away and I couldn’t be more excited. I had a feeling this summer was going to be one of the coolest summers ever, and I was going to enjoy every second of it.

Even though I was pretty sure I wasn’t going on a trip to a different country, the mere fact of spending the whole summer at the beach was enough to bring a huge smile to my face. Sun, sand, wind and water, could I ask for more? Probably, but I didn’t want to. Setting thoughts of the summer aside I made my way towards my backpack and took out my Spanish notes.

I quickly scanned my review notes and, as usual, I was not worried at all. Plus I was pretty darn sure the test would be extremely easy. Why? Because most of the students didn’t take Spanish class seriously, therefore they learned nothing and if the teacher made the test difficult more than half of the students would fail.

After about ten minutes of staring blankly at papers I set them aside and stood up from my desk. My bed was a mess as usual. Clothes were scattered everywhere, jewelry covered almost its entire surface and books were lying around. Ignoring all the mess I sat down on my nail polish stained bed sheets and grabbed my iPod from the bedside table. I scrolled through all the artists and songs, when no song caught my attention I put my iPod in shuffle, listening to whatever songs it started playing.

I must have fallen asleep because next thing I know my mom was pounding so hard on the door I was surprised it didn’t break. Standing up quickly I rushed to the door and unlocked it. I was greeted by an annoyed looking mom.

“Leah! I’ve been calling you for minutes. Dinner is ready.” Mom said rolling her eyes.

I stepped out of my room. “I’m sorry I had my earphones on.”

My mom’s eyes went wide and she stared me up and down. “You haven’t showered?” She asked raising her right eyebrow.

I smiled sheepishly at her and shrugged. “I came home and the first thing I did was study. Then I guess it slipped my mind.”

“Yeah sure. Studying.” My mom smirked.

“Wow mom, I didn’t know parents knew how to be sarcastic.” I said faking excitement.

She laughed at that. “Don’t be a smartass.”

“Sorry.” I side stepped her and descended down the stairs. My dad was already seated at the table playing some weird game on his phone. I swear my dad was like a child at times. He looked up from his iPhone and smiled when he saw me.

“Hi honey how was school today?” He asked.

“It was fine. Mr. Broody was his usual grumpy self.” I replied shaking my head.

“How so?”

“He tried to get us all in trouble. But whatever, it didn’t work.” I smiled triumphantly.

“Oh yeah? Who was the victim this time.” My dad asked amused.

I swallowed my food before speaking. “Liam.”

“I see.” He said nodding.

“So how was lunch?” My mom chimed in.

“It was great.” I took a sip from my iced tea. “A tiny bit weird.”

“Weird?” Mom and dad asked at the same time.

“Yeah. It’s a long story but basically Liam went on a sort of date with a girl from school and we ended up going to the same place, luckily they didn’t see us but we had to leave and go to Johnny Rockets instead.” I breathed in.

“Sounds… Fun.” Dad said.

I glared at him. “Thanks dad.”

After dinner I helped my dad clear the table while my mom washed the dishes.

“Thanks for helping.” Dad said kissing my forehead.

“No problem.” I said hugging him. “I’ll go shower now.”

I took the steps two at a time and opened my bedroom door.  After shrugging out of my swimsuit I stepped into the shower and took a cold shower. When I got out I checked my phone but I had no new messages or missed calls. Instead of blow drying my hair I let it dry naturally and put my pajamas on. I grabbed my phone and went into the TV room.

Mom and dad were already there watching the new Criminal Minds episode. After about two hours of watching TV I couldn’t keep my eyes opened any longer and decided to go to bed.

“Night baby.” My mom said.

“Sleep well.” Dad joined in.

“You too.” I smiled and went to my room.
