Chapter 1: Amber's POV

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock beeping annoyingly in my ear. I banged on it wildly to attempt to shut it off. Monday, the day from hell. I couldn't remember last night if I tried. I remember leaving the house with Tara and Macy, but nothing past it. I decided to forget about it. I can't do anything about whatever happened anyway. I slowly got up out of bed and dragged myself to the small bathroom. I turned on the light and flinched. Daring myself, I looked at my reflection in the mirror and moaned. Shuffling through my makeup box, I found my savior; concealer. After being somewhat happy with how I looked, I threw on my Rolling Stones shirt and jeans. I grabbed my car keys off it's hook and began to my car. My phone started ringing, and I thought I was going to throw a fit right then and there in the street. I answered the call anyway. "What do you want Macy?" I asked, not bothering to hide my annoyance. "Would you calm down? I was just going to ask if you remember anything from last night." She said, spitting back at me. "No I don't. Now I have to get to work, something you don't understand." I said, hanging up on her and climbing in my old car. I knew she will make fun of how drunk I was last night later anyway. My work was only ten minutes away from my apartment. It's a quiet little music store, which doesn't get much business because people don't appreciate music anymore. I got to the store right on time, and my manager looked incredibly annoyed. God he was obnoxious. Doesn't he know it's Monday? I don't want to deal with his sorry ass. "You're almost late." Dani said pointing to the clock on the wall. "No, I'm on time." I said, pointing to the printed out schedule by the front desk. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. I swear I saw him flex his arms doing it. "You're on shelf duty today. Get to work." Dani said before walking back to his little office. I just shook my head as I walked to the rows of selfs filled with various CD's. It's worthless organizing the shelf anyway, people won't notice. I started in the back, where Dani won't be able to see me. To make the day worse, my head was pounding. I decided to lay between the two back shelves. We won't get a costumer for another few hours anyway. "Would you get up? We have a customer!" I heard Dani yell at me. I opened my eyes to see him hovering above me, staring at me with his beady eyes. I looked at the clock and found I slept for a hour or so. I got up to see the costumer. She was like most of our consumers, dazed and confused. "Anything in particular you wanted to get?" I asked, and was very pleased that I sounded only a little annoyed. The girl chomped loudly on her gum and twirled her hair before answering. "Do you have like, the um, album for what's it called.. Van Zeppelin?" She said, making me clench my fist. I took a deep breath a seriously thought about counting to ten. "You either mean Led Zeppelin or Van Halen." I said through clenched teeth. The girl gave me a strange look and I walked over to the L section. "Here's the albums for Led Zeppelin. Tell me if it was one of these." I said before leaving her to get some water. "What did that girl want?" Dani asked. "She doesn't entirely know." I groaned, both from the girl and having to talk to Dani. The girl walked up to me holding the Mothership album. Still chomping her gum, she set the CD on the counter. "It was this." She said with her whiny voice. After checking her out, the day went by slowly like every other day. As if a sign from God himself, my boyfriend Mark came into the store to pick me up. It's quite unnecessary considering I have a car, but he refuses to do otherwise. "Hey babe." He said, strutting over to where I was standing. "Bye Dani." I said, waving before walking out with Mark. "How was work?" He asked as we walked to my car. "Horrible and I don't want to talk about it." I said, not caring if I sound bitchy. Mark stopped walking and looked at me. "It's not my problem you had a shit day." He spat at me. I took a step back in shock. It's stupid I still get surprised at this, considering it happens a lot lately. "I never said it was your fault, you just implied it." I mumbled, fumbling with my car keys. "Can you just stop being so bitchy?" He yelled, making me jump. I stared at my feet, trying to get myself to not cry. God I'm such a wimp. "Stop being an attention whore all the time!" He yelled from the other side of the car. "Would you leave the girl alone already?" A thick Irish accent yelled back from somewhere across the street. I looked up and saw the man who yelled was a well built, dirty blonde haired boy. He had many tattoos on his arms and showed them off with a tanktop and shorts. "And who the fuck are you to tell me?" Mark said yelling back at him and walking across the street to him. I've seen Mark angry many times before and I know I need to stop him. I ran up and grabbed his arm trying to make him stop. "Get off me!" He spat, trying to pull me off. "Just stop!" I yelled, surprised I found the courage to speak. Mark managed to pull my hand off him and and threw me to the ground. I cried in pain as my spine landed on the road. I heard thuds and cracks as I supposed the boys started fighting. There was a lot of grunting and moaning, an suddenly it went silent. I didn't want to think about who won the fight. I pulled myself up, my whole body pounding with pain. I managed to get to my car, and I scrambled to get in the driver seat. I was about to pull out when I saw a head of blonde hair running towards me. I didn't know if i should feel relieved or upset the blonde haired boy won. He tapped on the window and I rolled it down. "Get in!" I yelled, scared Mark would catch up. The boy ran to get to the seat next to me, and right as he shut the door I pulled out of the parking lot. "What do you want?" I snapped, not knowing why this boy could've just left me alone. "Do you not remember me?" He asked, sounding slightly offended. Seriously? I have never seen this boy in my life besides today. What's his problem? "How could I?" I asked, wanting to know where I could drop him off. "Last night." He said, looking out the window "I don't remember anything from last night, sorry." I said, hoping it would make him change the subject. "Oh," He said after a long pause. "Well then, my name is Niall Horan. It's been a pleasure saving you for the second time." He said with a smirk. "Second time?" I asked, hoping I heard him incorrectly. He nodded, not seeming to want to explain. I just rolled my eyes and kept driving. "I think this is the time you tell me what your name is." Niall said after I didn't say anything. I didn't want him knowing my name, but then again I don't know what I told him yesterday, if we really had met. "Amber. My names Amber." I mumbled, hoping I had told him this yesterday. Niall just nodded as if he already knew. "Where can I drop you off?" I asked, wanting to get him as far away from he as I could. "Raven Court." He said smugly. It was annoying me how smug this boy is. "Wait did you say Raven Court?" I asked, hoping I heard him wrong. He nodded and I could feel him staring at me. "Shit." I whispered. I live only a block away from Raven Court. I dropped Niall at what I suppose is his apartment. I drove home and prepared myself for Mark. He was at my apparent of course, and was waiting for me to get home. "What took you so long?" He growled. "I just took the long way." I quietly said, hoping he would let it go. He grabbed my arm, pulling me in the house and shut the door behind him. I closed my eyes and stood there, trying my hardest to numb my mind. Mark pushed me against the wall and punched and hit me until my body started to feel numb. He finally stopped and walked to my bedroom. I slid down the wall, crumpling in pain. He was drunk out if his mind again, and this was my consequence. He shut the door behind him, so he could do what? I have no idea. Luckily he didn't take the keys, and I jumped in my car. I called Macy and asked if I could spend the night at her house. "Why don't you stand up for to yourself?" She asked as I drove to her house. "It's more complicated then you know Macy." I sighed and hung up. Her house was across town, on the nicest side. Her parents are filthy rich, so she already has a house big enough to fit a family. And luckily, Mark doesn't know where her house is. I turned up the radio as loud as I could so I could tune out even my thoughts. I finally got to Macy's house, and she was sitting on her porch. She stood up, arms crossed and her mouth like a skinny line on her face. I walked closer to her and I could've sworn I saw her eyes water. "Is it bad already?" I asked. Judging by the look on her face, the bruises were already showing. She nodded and turned around, walking into the house and I followed her. She went all the way to her large, fancy ass kitchen and sat at the table, motioning for me to do the same. "This needs to stop." She said, her blue eyes staring into my brown ones. My mind started thinking about Niall for some reason. Ah yes, his blue eyes. "So this boy Niall Horan basically saved my ass from Mark." I said, not quite replying to her. Macy's eyes got huge and she spit her tea on the table. She choked a bit also, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "What's the big deal with this guy?" I asked, annoyed at her reaction. "If you really don't remember last night, there's no point in making you remember." She said, taking a drink from her tea. What could've possibly happened last night? "I'm not joking with you Macy, what happened with Niall?" I said, standing up from the table. "It's not what Niall did, it's what Mark and his friends did." She said, getting up to put her tea in the sink. I sat back down and laid my head on the table, covering it with my hands. "WHY!?" I yelled, confused and angry at the same time. I knew Mark wasn't the best guy, but what could he have done to make everyone shut up and not want me to know? "I'll just say, you should at least talk to Niall." She said before walking out of the room completely. I laughed at that. The fact she thought we could be friends, or even talk. Consciously, I've known him for less than an hour and he still annoyed the shit out of me. "Can you tell me what happened today?" She asked from the living room. "Why not." I said, and sat down next to her before telling my amazing life story. I included everything from work up until I left the house. Macy never looked away from me the whole time, and never judged me. I guess that's why she's one of the few people that have gained my trust. "How long do you want to stay here?" Was all she asked. It would have been so easy to just ask to move in with her, but I just asked for a few nights. "I'll have to go back home for clothes. I'll do that now while Mark is drunk out of his mind." I sigh, knowing he's probably passed out on my bed. "Good luck." Macy hugged me before I left. I'll need a bit more than luck to get away with this one. I left her house and pushed the speed limit to quickly get back to my apartment. Once I finally reached my house and got inside, I prepared myself for the worst. Whether that be Mark attacking me or him being passed out cold, I have no idea. I went into my room and found him indeed, passed out cold. My god he was disgusting. Why am I wasting my night, hell, why am I wasting my life on Mark? I've had enough of this sorry ass. I could wake him up to tell him, but he would either lash out on me or forget it tomorrow. I decided to text him and leave him a note.

I grabbed about a weeks worth of clothes and put it in a bag before heading back to Macy's house. Once I got there she still looked upset. "What's wrong?" I asked her after she hasn't said anything. "I'm tired of hearing about how Mark treats you like shit. I don't mind you staying over, but you shouldn't have to. I smiled a little as she said this, obviously confusing her, that or angering her. "Don't worry Macy." This only angered her worse, an she stood up, hovering over me. "Don't you dare tell me not to worry! I'm your friend! OF COURSE I'm going to worry! He treats you like shit and beats you! You should be surprised I haven't had him arrested!" She spat at me, making it hard for me not to yell. "Macy, thank you. I'm saying you don't need to worry because I broke up with Mark just now."
