epilogue
I jolted upright in bed, an angry, frustrated chain of words about to erupt from my mouth. I looked at the clock which said it was 3:27am. Tyler noticed straight away and sat up beside me. It was safe to say that he was no longer a deep sleeper with how regular these outbursts of mine were. "I can't sleep!" I pounded the bed sheets with my fists.
"Let me guess," he said, his eyes barely open and his hair a gorgeous mess despite it shooting in several different directions. "Watermelon with lime?" I shook my head. "Pickles?" I shook my head again. "Then it has to be a glass of chocolate milk and a grapefruit." For the third time, I shook my head no. "Damn, wrong again? What is it?"
"I would really like to eat some avocado," I smiled, although ready to scream if my demands weren't met.
"Really? I could have sworn you didn't like it," he scratched his head, looking extremely sleepy. I felt sorry for him but at the same time, my urge for avocado was stronger.
"But I do now, and I want it. Now," I glared at him and he chuckled, shaking his head.
"Okay," he swung his legs out of bed. "Let's go. Tesco, Asda, somewhere will have it." My face lit up and I whipped the duvet off of myself. "Hold on," he quickly said, pacing round to my side. One hand went straight to the small of my back and the other grabbed my hand, helping me up. I smiled at these small gestures that made me love him more and more with each passing day. No matter how many times I'd say I could manage, he would be next to me in the blink of an eye.
We washed our faces, not wanting too look too gross and Tyler brushed a hand through his hair. I, on the other hand, had to run a comb through my short new haircut — which was seven months old so not exactly new anymore — to actually tame it. There was really no point as I would probably stay in the car the whole way but it was done now. As soon as I had finished, he drove to the nearest supermarket. "I think I'll just sit here," I relaxed further back into the seat. He returned five minutes later with bad news. They were all out. The next one, however, became my new favourite supermarket. "Yes!" I shouted when Tyler returned with a beautiful, ripe avocado.
From inside the carrier bag, he also pulled out a sharp kitchen knife, a spoon and a pack of paper plates. "They didn't sell them individually," he shrugged. He cut open the avocado and removed the pit, throwing it into the bag before proceeding to slice it. "I didn't want you to wait any longer than you already have," he said and I began to cry. I wouldn't normally but I just couldn't control it. "Oh God! I'm sorry! Did I say something bad?" He dropped what he was doing to comfort me.
I shook my head. "That was just really sweet," I sniffled, wiping my cheeks.
His head settled back with relief and his eyes closed. "Hormones. Got it," he let out a deep breath, remembering the doctor's words. When I laughed, he peered at me, opening only one eye, and smiled widely. "I love your laugh," he said and sat forward again, handing me a plate.
"I love when you give me avocado," I winked at him and lunged for the fruit in my lap.
"Hah. Cute," he ruffled my hair, shaking his head. "Here I was, expecting you to tell me you love me."
"I do!" I exclaimed, then added, "when you give me the food I want to eat. Especially if it's at 4am. Such a good boyfriend," I patted his head, teasing him some more. He put on his seatbelt and drove us home.
"Will that be all for tonight, madame?" He dropped a little curtsy when we got to our room.
"I think so," I giggled, settling back into bed. "It's a good job you're not at work tomorrow."
