Update Again!!!! Yaaay:)
Taking the breath I got up. I went to the cupboard and searched for the thing which remained untouched from the time it was kept there. Grabbing those shining keys, I left. I need a break from this. From this daily fights, from this hard life and especially from him.
I asked Jamaal bhai for the drive. Going through the same streets felt nice but at the same it brought the sadness in me. The car came to halt. Thanking him, I stepped out and walked to the entrance only to be stopped by him.
"Should I have to wait here?" He asked.
" Um....No thanks. I'll call you later" He gave nod and drove the car away.
The house looked the same. The same exterior I have seen from my childhood . I always thought I would come to my parent's house frequently after marriage but see what the fate has brought me? Its almost two months or so and its the first time I'm visiting it after the wedding. I should been the one to bid bye to my parents at the airport not the other way round.
I opened the door with the spare key I had with me. I hear the door creak as it was not opened for a long time. My aunt had cleaned the house once or twice but it was long back.
"Kashaf? Is that you?" I stopped in tracks as I heard my name.
I turned to find one of our neighbors "Hey!" I smiled. Something to add normal atmosphere to this lonely house.
"Hello dear. How are you?" Nirmala aunty asked adjusting the groceries basket in her hand.
"Alhamdulilah,I'm fine, aunty. What about you?" I asked returning her same smile.
"Same old. How's your mother?" She had been our neighbor from a long time. After the death of her husband, her granddaughter shifted to her place, but it didn't made her to love me any less. I remember playing at her place or escaping there whenever ammi was furious of my actions. Well, good old days.
"Better" I shrugged.
"She will soon come back all healthy" She assured positively.
"InshaAllah" I mumbled. "Do need help with those?" I asked pointing to the basket.
"No, dear. I'm good" She waved her hand declining my offer. "I should get going. I have lot to make for Kirthi's birthday"
"Okay, wish her happy birthday on behalf of me" I said as the face of Kirthi, her granddaughter's face flashed before me.
"Sure. Drop by sometime with your handsome husband, by the way how is he?" She smirked. She maybe old but she has the heart of a teenager.
"Great" I replied. Don't forget to note the sarcasm.
"Bye, dear. See you later" Giving a smile she left.
I entered the house with all the childhood memories entering my mind. Honestly, the home is not home without parents. Everything was the same as I left. A wedding house what it was called is still same. Though aunt cleaned it, she didn't place the right item in right place which we left in the chaos of wedding and leaving for airport.
I spend rest of time in making this house like the home we had. Dusting, cleaning and after arranging everything right, I opened ammi, abbu's but it was too much for me to take in. I couldn't hold up my tears. The image of ammi peacefully reading Quran and abbu doing some of his works while smiling at her appeared before. An usual morning scene of them.
"Ya Allah!" I miss them. I miss a lot. Thought their voice would be enough me, but I wasn't. I need my ammi now. I want her 'Everything will be okay' type hug. I want abbu to give me his treats just to make me stop being sullen. I miss them. I miss everything. Why does it have to be so much distance between us? Why does ammi has to forget me? If its just distance, it would be something else. I can't even have a normal chat with her now. The image of ammi smacking me when I say something stupid flashed. See the irony, she doesn't even remember me when I need her the most.
