There was a secret meeting tonight and Rowan Phillips had to be there. Early that same morning, a loud crash sounded from above ground wreaking havoc among all of the foragers - which is what the grounders called Rowan and her people. Most people think it was them, but Ro knew the grounders would never be so stupid as to step a foot into their territory. They know how dangerous the foragers can be.

The council was to meet at 6 to discuss a strategy as to how they would go about finding the cause for such a commotion. Of course Ro knew that once they came to a decision, she would be one of the people to carry the plan out. Rowan was of an exceptional blood line after all which meant that she was accustomed to the radiation polluting their earth.

After a nuclear war some 100 years ago, mankind was put at risk for extinction - or so they thought. Some of them, known as the sky people, escaped to space therefore leaving their home behind. Others took their chances out in the open, they were called grounders. And then there were Rowan's people, the foragers. They created a community underground where those not accustomed to radiation could still survive. The "lucky" ones who could go out in the open with no issue were called the runners, consisting of Rowan and four of her close friends. Going through the training and harsh conditions of Earth, the runners all grew to be very close. They stuck together when one of them was lost and when a famine broke out. It was mutual respect that they had for one another and they all knew it would never change.

Rowan nodded at a few people that passed her by in the halls. Since foragers were such a small group, everybody knew everybody which meant it was not difficult to taint your reputation. As for Rowan Phillips, she was seen as a warrior. A strong child that fought on the outside. That's how everyone saw the runners. It was as if children saw the group as superheroes when in reality they were as normal as a group could be.

Once Ro got to the large metal doors that led to the conference area, she took her usual route to the left that brought her to a small air vent - just enough space for her to slide her small body in. Rowan looked to both sides, making sure nobody was watching before she popped the metal cover off, crawling inside. A small window was to her right, giving herself a clear view of the conference area. President Sterling sat at the head of the table, her ice blue eyes scanning everyone in the room. She resembled an owl, always watching your every move. It was safe to say you did not want to be on her bad side.

"As we all know, there was a disturbance earlier this morning. Now, we do not know the cause but we do know that whatever caused it could easily be a threat to our society." She began, gracefully standing up.

"Why don't we just send the runners to check it out." Crowley spoke up. He was head of the council and only cared about the elites of their society. Specifically, he hated the runners, despising that they were different and, unlike him, were able to see the outside world.

"We cannot risk sending them out. They are valuable to to us. Who knows what's up there." Another lady rejected shaking her head. Rowan scowled at the lady's low expectations of her group.

"The runners are extremely capable." President Sterling held up a finger. "Whatever is up there I am positive they could handle it."

"Then what's the point of this meeting, Sterling." Crowley snapped, leaning forward in his chair.

"Frankly, we have reason to believe that the sky people are here." President Sterling's right hand man, Xavier, admitted making Ro furrow her eyebrows in confusion. The sky people shouldn't be back, they have no idea if the Earth is even livable. "Electric recorded a frequency of the crash. They know that it was a machine and it came from above. We do not know anything for sure but we have to proceed carefully."

Dozens of questions were being thrown at President Sterling who, in return, rolled her eyes standing up. "Meeting adjourned." She glared leaving the room. Rowan quickly shuffled out of the air vent, standing in shock.

The sky people were here.
