Coraline's (Bailey) P.O.V:
"Owwww!" I hiss in a whisper. Freaking Lexi just stepped on my toes. We were on a hunt for murderers and are currently in the city hall. Just like we knew, security guards are on patrol. Not like we weren't expecting them. She shoves me.
"If you don't stop I will shoot your leg." I threaten in a low whisper. She raises her arms in surrender. Hiding in a closet is very bad when you're trapped with Lexi. Sadie decided to be the camera control and the lookout. Getting my payback, I step on Lexi's shoulder. She also hisses. "Just shut up." I'm standing on both of her shoulders.
"Pass me the screwdriver." And so she does. I am currently trying to unscrew the air vent, and get us up there so we can place cameras for next time. It was Lexi's crazy idea to come back, but I'm pretty sure the murderer wouldn't come back, but she insisted.
"Gotcha." I say taking off the cap. I get into the claustrophobic space with my feet inside, then I pull Lexi in. I manage to turn around and I start crawling.
"God, your butt is in my face."
"Shut up!" I scowl in a whisper. I hear people walking underneath us. We made it about 3 meters deep until we stopped. My breathing hitched. Lexi felt it too. The security collapsed to the floor. Oh shit. I take a camera from my bag and securely place it through the vent. I grab my camera and take a picture through the vent lines. There is no more security in this place. I place my finger to my earpiece.
"Are the cameras down?"
"Ya, I see through the camera you just connected that the security is down. We're in this alone." Comes Sadie's voice.
"Do you see what happened? Did they get shot or is it a tranquilizer?"
"I don't know, you guys are gonna have to go down there."
I take a glance back at Lexi. She nods.
"I'm going to go." I tell Sadie. I can hear her hesitate before she agrees. I turn to Lexi.
"You'll be backup."
"I already know."

***
"Holy Shit." I whisper to nobody in particular. My black leggings and black hoodie are on point, and my hair in a high pony. I look like the spies in the movies. So before I came down here, Lexi let me borrow her tranquilizer gun because shooting them with a bullet would be stupid, whereas very messy. I somehow managed to climb up over the large curtains to put a camera in the dark corner. For some reason, nobody turned on the lights in the hall, but I see their point, everybody would know someone was in here, but people could think it's the security in here. I don't see why they didn't turn on the lights. I jumped down about 10 metres, and then I realized there were footsteps in front of the door. "Cora run!" Sadie shouts into my earpiece, but I was already in a safe place when she said that. I take the other hallway only to pass a tranquilized security guard... so that's what it is. Why would the men even be here if they knew there would be security around the place, unless that's what they wanted. Maybe they are doing something in another place, where nobody would expect. Maybe...
"Cora get back. People are coming your way." Sadie hisses. I press a button on my belt and the chain grabs onto the hole in the ceiling, into the air vent.
Phew, that was close.
"Guys come back, it's not safe anymore. The cameras are connected to the laptop, so we're good for the night."
We keep walking, only Lexi is leading the way out now. She stops suddenly. I freeze.
"What is it, a bomb?"
"I don't know, it's a box."
"Thanks for nothing, give it to me." She hands me the small box.
It looks like a parcel, and it has a stamp on it. Weird, I don't think they put stamps on boxes. Wait, the agency said we will get a parcel delivered today. Great, they got more spies watching us because who would know we would be up here, other than other spies. Lexi looks expectedly at me.
"Move your butt!"

***
Lexi was shaking the box.
"Careful, it could be explosives or chemicals."
She throws the box towards me. I take off my snoop boots which are equipped with spikes at the top and metal picks at the heel. They pop out when needed. The boots also have sound proof heels, thank God for that. Grabbing the knife from my boots, I scratch it with the tape on the box.
"What are you doing?!?" They both yell in sync.
"Calm your tits you guys, it's from the agency."
"How do you know that, and why didn't you tell us?" Lexi can be so complicated.
"Because I can keep it a secret." My attention is turned toward the box. It's not that big, it's about 6 inches by 6 inches.
I stare at the contents inside. Pulling it out, everybody looks confused.
"Why would they send us a clock, we already have watches as gifts."
"Don't you get it, it's a riddle. It's one of those old mechanical clocks. The alarm is set at 9 in the morning, but the hands freeze at 6:45 pm." I say, to see if anybody understands.
"Goodness you guys, you're so rusty. The agency said they will meet at an old farm and make the trade there." I pause, waiting to see if someone will catch on.
"Lucas said his dad will be away on a business trip Saturday. That's when they'll probably make the trade." Lexi points out. I hate to point it out but she is somewhat useful.
"If it's on an old farm, on Saturday, at 6:45, why does the alarm land on a 9 too?" Sadie asks, more to herself. Hmmm...
"Because what's on almost every countryside?" Lexi asks. I think she figured it out.
"Cows, chickens, sheep... umm... horses?" Sadie clearly is still thinking.
"Chicken."
"What?"
"Chicken."
"I still don't get it."
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls."
"OH MY LORD! Roosters!!!!!" She happily exclaims. "It's because roosters sing, or whatever they do, as a type of alarm on the countryside. But what do roosters have anything do do with our mission?"
"I guess we'll find out soon."

***
"So you guys, should I stick with Lucas while you 2 go out on the mission?"
"I don't think so, we'll need your help." I say pleadingly.
"Why not, she'll be like a bodyguard. I'm sure we can handle it." Sadie looks at me.
"Guys, why did we even go to the City Hall?" I decided to change the subject. We are having sort of like a slumber party in Lexi and Sadie's room. I noticed how I opened up to Lexi slightly. It's the second day and our attitude towards each other has slightly changed.
"Maybe because we would be able to find clues? I mean you managed to place cameras and we found a group of men. Speaking of cameras, did you find anything useful?" Lexi looks towards Sadie. She shrugs. I get up ant walk towards the open laptop sitting on their desk. Even though Sadie is the best at computer stuff, I took computer classes and can use them pretty well. Rewinding our camera tapes, the one in the camera vent catches my attention the most. You can see people walking under, pacing each other... like they're waiting for something or someone. Then I notice a slightly large man come into the room wearing a tuxedo.
"Alright everyone... the deal will be made on Saturday. Some of you will stay here and watch the boy. If the dealer doesn't give us what we asked for on time, we kill the boy, just like we did to my nephew..."
Just like that, the line gets cut. Someone found the camera!
"You guys, you gotta see this." I say to the others over my shoulder. They come rushing to me and I rewind the video once again.
"Someone wrecked my camera!" Sadie whines. She invented that type of camera, it's a spy deluxe 5000. She loves her inventions a lot.
"Do you guys recognize this man?" I ask everyone.
"Are we supposed to?" Lexi replies.
"He's the guy from the T.V. When they announced the little boy's death. Guys, he's the mayor and he knows about the deal. He even killed his own nephew!!!" I yell. "Sadie save this video on a USB, we're going to need it." She nods.
"But if all the bad guys were in the main hall, who was in the air vents?" Lexi asks. I shrug my shoulders. I did my part, I'm the 'backup,' she said she wanted to take charge, and so she will.

I had the same dream again. It's 3:23 and I'm on my laptop, in the living room. Currently, I'm just investigating farms near Orion. I found 3 farms that look interesting, and today I'm going to take a trip. It feels like we aren't doing this fast enough. It's Wednesday, and we have 2 more days of school and 2 more days until we have to prepare for the deal. In case you were wondering, I am 15, but with being a spy, I got a spy badge and a driver's license, full G.
I hear someone come down the stairs. I immediately get up off of the couch and run for the stairs, jumping over the couch in the process. Adrenalin pumps through me, knowing that if I get caught by Sadie, she'll ask questions but if Lexi is the one coming, she'll bombard me by telling me she's going to take over my room. Going deeper into the darkness, I make it towards the middle of the room.
"Cora?" They ask sleepily. I hear them nearing towards the stairs. Making a beeline towards the door, I open it and hide in there. I keep running and running until I make it where the sewer opens up 3 pathways. Managing to calm down, I realizing nobody's gonna come to get me. I stare at my hands...
"Oh crap, the laptop!" I talk to myself. My tone of voice makes an echo, and I get creeped out so I start walking towards the door again. I start to tip toe to the stairs. My skin rubbing off of the wall, making me regret my choice of PJs. I'm wearing plaid pants and a baggy T-Shirt that says 'C'est La Vie' in French. Meaning 'this is life.'  Running up the stairs, I skip the steps in between. Speed-walking to my laptop, I notice a black figure in the corner of the kitchen. The figure walks up to me, as I stiffen I place my hands on the gun resting near my waist.
"It's about time you got up from there. But you're lucky because I'm going to let you off with a warning. Go back to bed." Lexi commands. I run up the stairs once more and shut the door of my room behind me. Laying down, I stare at the old fashioned popcorn ceiling. The texture so uneven, they look like stars in the night sky, at midnight. My eyelids shut. Do you ever have those times where you turn towards your head, wondering what's inside? Do any people see those gears get rusty, and stop spinning. Once in a while they start to work, but usually nothing makes you start thinking until you get asked a complicated question? Those times when the inside of your head becomes a library, and you're looking for a folder of a book full of stories? Do you have those moments when you're put on the spot, and you can't seem to be able to say or think of anything, because that's what I feel most of the time. I zoned out.
