Arizonas POV)
Finally, I was finished prepping everything for this dance. Leaning against the base I waited for the ship to touch down. I saw a bunch of freelancers come out. I assigned each of them to a base, of course North was in Blue base. Courtesy of South. Yeah this was going to be fun... totally crowded but fun.
I sat in my room giving my hair a trim using a nice big knife... yeah dangerous habit. I set the knife down as someone comes into my room.
"Um miss AZ" of course Caboose would come in "can I sit in here with you?"
"Sure" I say as I take apart a gun taking a cigarette out of the handle "do me a favor and take this to mister York... I promised him that he would get this when we met up again" he nods.
"I don't know which one mister York is"
"I'll show you"
I led him towards where York was, of course he was leaning on the wall, he looks over at us.
"Hey AZ" he greets.
"Remember that cigarette I promised you?" I say
"Yeah, why?"
"Caboose give it to him"
"Oh wow! this is from that pack I got you from when we were in training!" he exclaims "oh man AZ where'd you keep it all this time?"
"I kept it in that old revolver" I say "remember from when you guys recruited me?"
"You managed to hold your own in that fight"
"While in stilettos" we shared a laugh as Caboose decided to go back to my room.
"So do you know what you're going to wear to the dance?"
"Probably something black"
"Wow you're so predictable!"
"Oh shut up!" I say "anyway you better savor that thing it's hard to get them out here"
"Oh really?"
"Yeah I've only got three packs left... the supply drop is in four more months so yeah I have to make them last"
He lit it, holding it between his teeth nodding to show that he was listening. We stood in silence before I left and sat in my room, Caboose was drawing something. I smiled as he carefully drew a few people in armor, three in blue armor and one in black and blue armor.
"Did you draw our team?" I asked leaning off my bed and looking at the picture.
"Yes... I made Tucker the farthest away.... because I don't like him that much, and I made you closest to me because I like you that much" he replies. I laugh tousling his hair.
"Miss AZ," he begins
"Yes Caboose?"
"Will you go to the dance with me?"
"Of course I will" I say laughing.
As he began asking me what color I was going to wear North looks into my room.
"Hey AZ" he says smiling plopping down beside me.
"Hey North" I say laughing as I bounced slightly.
"Oh so you're mister North Dakota" Caboose says "hello, I am Michael J Caboose" he extends his hand out to North who shakes.
"So AZ how's this whole leader of the Blue army thing treating you?" he asks.
"It's good the boys listen most of the time"
"I listen all of the time"
"Yes Caboose listens all the time" I say
"Hm" North says "seems like you're teacher's pet hm"
"No I am not an animal" Caboose says "I am a person"
"Yeah"
"Yes, but I think I am miss AZs favorite"
"Last I checked I was her favorite... at least in project Freelancer"
"Well I am her favorite in Blood Gulch"
"Yeah I can see that"
I tuned out their conversation as I cleaned my revolver. Putting it back together I focused on them when I heard my name.
"Miss AZ didn't you say you would go to the dance with me?" Caboose says.
"What- oh yeah I did why?" I told him.
"Told you" Caboose yawns "goodnight miss AZ I am going to my bed now... will we have another slumber party tonight?"
"Hm, maybe it depends on where everyone is sleeping"
"Alright" he left the room going to his room.
North stared at me. His blue eyes looking deep into my blue ones.
"Slumber party?" he asks an eyebrow raised questioningly.
"Oh I sleep in his room whenever he is having one of his days"
"His days?"
"He's got PTSD, he witnessed something horrible when he was in battle.. we aren't sure what though"
"Poor guy..."
"Yeah it's actually the reason he draws a lot, I think her finds it therapeutic"
"So... he asked you to the dance?"
"Yeah he did"
"And you said yes?"
"Yeah"
"Well that's great" he says I heard what sounded like disappointment in his voice, strange it's not like he was jealous.
"Well, I am going to the roof now... wanna come?" I ask him.
"Uh sure" he gets up following me to the roof. We sat on the edge of it, I had a lighter in my hands, flipping it on and off. Looking across the canyon I saw that they had gotten Wyoming.
"I feel sorry for them" I say
"Why?"
"They've got Wyoming"
"Yikes"
"Yeah so many bad jokes"
"They only have to last a week with him... we had to last years"
"Knock knock" I say remembering a joke
"Oh god not you too"
"Just go with it asshole"
"Fine, who's there?'
"York"
"York who?"
"I'm gonna kick York ass"
"Really?"
"Yes really"
"That was horrible"
"It's better than that other one"
"Which one?"
"The one about lettuce"
"He used to tell that all the time"
We chuckle together I leaned back looking up at the sky, seeing stars. I stared at all the constellations.
"Remember when we first met?" I asked
"Yeah, I thought you were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen" he says "your hair was long back then, almost to your waist, I had never seen camo pants and a T-shirt look so good" we laugh.
"Man you should have seen when they recruited me" I say "have you ever heard the story?"
"No I haven't... hm one of the things you haven't told me"
"Yeah I kinda thought it was common knowledge"
"Why don't you tell me?"
"Alright"
