The next day at work was the long awaited half day. We had already made plans to go downtown after; we were going to do some shopping.
School was pretty boring, as always, but I had a really strange feeling during the day. Like, the feeling you get when you know that you were going to see the person you liked soon. I had no idea what that meant, because no guy even vaguely attractive went to my school. Am I excited for tonight? I guess so, I thought later, deciding to just shake it off.
"You ready for tonight?" Alex asked me when I pulled up to the building.
"Am I ready? This is the first time I can go out and spend money on myself!"
Alex smiled faintly, then leaned in. "Hey, if you need anything, just ask me. I can lend you some dol-"
I cut him off. "Don't even worry! I've been saving up. Over $200."
Alex looked shocked. "Really?! That's awesome! I'm so happy for you! But if you still want something super expensive..."
I giggled. "Thanks, Lexy." We both walked in the lobby, and that's when everything turned around, and it all made sense.
Rocky was standing at the counter next to a very attractive younger guy, the big couch was covered with a large bedsheet, and Paige was behind her, trying not to look scared, greeting us as we walked in.
"Hi...guys."
My immediate reaction was to scream at Rocky. "What's happening? What's wrong with the couch? Who's this guy?"
"This," Rocky started, giving us the Evil Eye. "..is Mike. Mike, this is Paul and Alex, two of my loving employees."
I wanted to die right there, in Alex's arms, without looking back. Maybe he could've carried me to my casket, and I would have had a nice funeral. But I couldn't do that without chewing this Mike guy out first, no matter how hot I thought he was.
"Okay...Mike, what's your reasoning behind this?" I asked him, pointing to the covered couch.
"Oh, I don't like the color," He stated nonchalantly.
"Well, maybe after learning how much we love it, and how super amazing this here couch is, you would change you mind." I looked at Alex, hoping he would have something else to say to support my case, but it looked like he was just as infatuated with Mike as I was. Damnit.
"I'll think about it." I think Mike's smirk right there killed both of us. I even saw Alex step back a little. I needed to discuss this huge problem with him, so I quickly made up some excuse, about ordering more batteries or something, and dragged him to our little hideout in the back.
When we're on break, we usually just chill on the couch, but when it's full or the lobby is busy, we go to the back, in this little table right behind the control room.
"Ok, Alex, I think we know what the problem is her-"
Alex cut me off and resorted to screaming. "He's hot! Our new boss is hot!"
I sighed and pulled him in close. "I know, but he's a total control freak. He's going to change this place in so many negative ways. If we control our feelings and-"
I was cut off again by Alex's phone going off. He picked it up and looked at me. "It's Nick. He wants to FaceTime."
When he tapped "Answer," we were both greeted by a blurry Nick and Bob. It looked like they were standing outside, in the parking lot.
Nick didn't even say hello, just a "WHY IS THERE A HOT GUY STANDING IN THE BUILDING?"
I nearly ripped the phone out of Alex's hands and held it close, so Nick had a good view of my eye. "Listen, that's Mike. And he wants to mess with the place. Just walk in and introduce yourselves."
