My eyes fluttered open to the sound of a vibrating phone. I blinked a couple times, then picked up the device.
"Hello?" I said as I sat up.
"Hi!" Kylie exclaimed.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I just heard some deets!"
"What do you mean, deets?"
"About the new guy! Tony!" She whispered.
"What about him?" I replied.
"Well, Josaphine saw him hanging around that old convenience store like 5 minutes ago and like..."
"Wait," I interrupted, "he couldn't have been there.. We just.."
I looked at my perfectly placed notebook inside of my perfectly placed backpack.
"What...?" She asked confused.
"I.. We.." I began rummaging through my notebook, searching for the note.
"Are you okay? You sound shocked..."
"I just.. It.." I stuttered.
Nothing was in the notebook. No note, no Romeo and Juliet notes, no nothing.
"... Hm.. You're acting a bit odd.." She mumbled.
"I was just confused. I had a dream that him and I talked during LA and that him and I went on a date and that.." I sighed, "and that he obviously had feelings for me."
"You do realize we didn't even have school today? It's like 2pm, Brooke." She coughed.
"It just seemed so real.. I just.."
"Brooke.. You're dreaming about the boy that you don't even know."
"But, Kylie.. You don't understand. I thought it was real. I thought it was happening."
"I think this is enough for you right now.. Maybe I'll call you back later.. When you're out together. You want me to come over maybe?"
"No, I'm good. Just.. I'll FaceTime you later." I replied simply.
I placed my phone on my bed then stared out my half open window.
What was I thinking? What was I dreaming? This is all so insane. It all seemed so real. I wish it was real.
Suddenly, Tony's door flew open, then slammed shut. An angry Tony made his way to his bed, holding the pillow tightly then throwing it across the room.
Hesitantly, I made my way to my window to get a closer look. Curse words and things falling into the ground filled my ears. I decided it would be best to mind my own business.
I closed my window and decided to go into the kitchen to find some food.
My mom sat on the couch reading one of her gossip magazines.
"You slept for a long time." She said, not looking up from the magazine.
"I know. What time did I sleep?"
"You slept around 11ish. I guess that's early for a young one like you, huh?" She smiled.
"I guess. It felt nice to sleep in." I said as I grabbed a piece of bacon.
"Good." She nodded.
-
"So that's what my dream was about." I said, almost out of breath.
"Huh.. Sounds really cute actually." Kylie replied as she adjusted the way her camera got her in the image.
"So yeah. It just seemed so.. Real." I replied as I picked up my phone and brought it to my bed.
"I'd think so. But hey, look at it this way.. When you find out what Josaphine heard, you won't even care about him anymore." She replied hesitantly.
"But maybe I want to.. Maybe I want to care about him.." I whispered.
"So, you're basically saying you like him?" She asked.
"I guess." I sighed, "I just don't want to. I don't want to admit it."
"Why?" She asked, biting into her licorice string.
"Honestly, I say I like him, I get all giddy around him.. Then I see him talking to someone else and I get too jealous.. I can't say I like him because he'll be all I think about and I.. I don't want that." I explained.
"But.. Don't you already think of him?"
"You don't understand. It's like.. It's like someone telling you to do something you love, but with one condition.. You can't love it. Basically by admitting I like him, I'm setting myself up for pure and utter heart break."
"Oh.." She whispered.
"Yeah.." I replied back in a hushed tone.
"But.. What Josaphine heard.. It was about his old school.. His reputation.."
"What do you mean? You sound upset about it or something." I replied.
"Well, once you hear about his reputation, you'll be upset too."
