Today was my first day back at school since my accident. I only had missed one day, but I already felt so behind and classes haven't even started yet. I did my usual routine and got out of my apartment on time to meet Dylan and Steph at our coffee shop. Hopefully today won't go like it did last time.
As I walked in Dylan was looking intensely at a textbook and as usual, Steph was finishing homework.
"Hey Lila!" Dylan smiled as he saw me walk in.
"Hey babe how are you?" I asked as I took the seat directly next to him.
"Can I ask you to do me a favor? And if you don't want to I completely understand."
"Sure what is it?" I responded.
"So I was thinking about changing my degree and go for surgical. I have some of the classes already completed from my general practitioner degree, but I still need a couple of more."
"Wow that sounds great! I'm so happy for you. But we are in the middle of the semester how are you going to get into a class and get caught up on all of the work?"
"Thats where the favor comes in." He pauses. "I need you to talk to Mrs. Jones, your anatomy teacher, and see if she will let me into her class. I now she loves you. And if she does maybe you can tutor me to get caught up!"
"Umm sure I can try. But I don't know how much luck I'll have." I awkwardly respond. What am I supposed to do? I don't really feel comfortable asking my teacher to make an exception for my boyfriend and allow him to enter the class half way through the semester. Then it will be a ton of work to manage my course load and help Dylan catch up. I guess I do sound pretty selfish. Ok I will do my best.
"Hellooo. Earth to Lila. Dylan just got up and left and you didn't even notice." Steph said as she snapped her fingers in front of my face.
"Did he say bye to me?" I asked confused.
"No he just kind of got up and left after you said you would help in. Kind of a dick move in my opinion."
"Oh. I'm sure he was just distracted." I said sounding hurt. What is going on. I know I haven't known him for that long, but he has already changed. This is not the Dylan that cared so much about me just a couple days after we met. He's probably just stressed with switching degrees. Yeah I'm sure thats it.
"We should probably get going to class." Steph said as she started to collect her books.
"Yeah sounds like a plan. I'll see you at lunch!" I said as I turned and walked out the door and got into to my car. Already this day is pretty crappy and I haven't even gone to class yet. I am just praying Aaron is not in any of them. I can't tell if seeing him before I passed out was a hallucination or not. Just a couple hours earlier he acted like he didn't even remember me.
Before I knew it, I was pulling into the parking lot on campus. I quickly gathered my books and walked into the science building. I had anatomy first which meant I had to talk to Mrs. Jones about Dylan. I hope she understands and doesn't think I am trying to take advantage of her.
As I walked into my lecture hall, most of the class hadn't arrived yet. I purposely got here a little early so I didn't have to have this awkward conversation in front of one hundred other students. I quickly approached Mrs. Jones who was sitting at her desk rearranging papers that I assumed were for todays class.
"Hi Miss Lila. What can I do for you?" Mrs. Jones smiled sweetly as I walked up to her.
"Hi Mrs. Jones! I don't want this to come across the wrong way, but I am in a little bit of a bind and I have an awkward question for you." I said as I focussed on the floor for a second. I expected her to get a little mad, but she surprised me.
"Sure go ahead. I'm sure that this won't be as bad as you make it out in your head to be." She said in a chipper voice.
"Ok. So I have this friend who just finished his General Practitioner degree, but he has recently decided to go for his surgical degree. He has finished a lot of the classes required for this degree, but he hasn't taken this one. I know that it is the middle of the semester and that it would take a lot of work to catch up to where we are now, but I have no problem tutoring him. I understand if this is not possible, but I promised I would ask."
"Well this is technically not allowed. But I may make an exception for you. You have a very strong A in this class and if you feel up to getting him caught up I may let him into my class. However, if he is not caught up in the next two weeks, I will have to dismiss him from Anatomy and he will have to take it next semester. May I ask how you know this gentlemen?"
"Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. I promise he is hardworking and I will do my best to catch him up to us as quickly as possible. And I don't mind at all. He is actually my boyfriend." I said feeling the heat rushing to my cheeks.
"Ahh I can see how this could have been an awkward favor to say no to for you." She said as she chuckled a little bit.
"Yes, it was. It was like World War III was breaking out in my brain." I said as I laughed along with her.
"Well I wish you and this lovely gentlemen the best of luck. I expect to see him in class tomorrow." She said as she went back to her papers.
"Yes of course. Thank you so much." I exclaimed almsot to excitedly.
I went to go take my usual seat in the back, but someone was there. It took me a second to realize who it was. Aaron Mathews is in the first class of the day, and is sitting in my seat. This day could not get any worse. Or could it.
