I woke up early in the morning, so early that not even the sun shone through the windows of the small room we were kept in. I stayed deathly still, not wanting to wake up Newt, who was cuddled up right behind me. Instead, I stared across the room, noting how my brother stirred slightly in his sleep. At first I was worried he was having a nightmare, but soon, his body relaxed and a calm look washed across his face. He was safe.

You're awake too, huh?

I smiled at the voice in my head. It was smooth, and definitely male; one I had learned to enjoy the sound of.

Yup. Couldn't sleep all that well I guess.

I replied, the words forming in my head as I thought them. It was weird; talking telepathically. It wasn't exactly the easiest thing, but it wasn't hard anymore either. You just had to picture the words in your mind, and think about transporting them to the person you wanted to speak to. It seemed to only work on Aris though...and Gally.

Same, Aris sighed. I'm all alone here. I got taken to another room, away from the girls.

I chuckled quietly to myself, my body shaking softly as I did so.

Sometimes I forget you were in a Glade full of girls. Lucky guy, aren't ya? I teased, although I didn't think he was lucky at all. Imagine being in a group with a bunch of girls. Imagine the drama. Imagine the bitch fights. Imagine how many Teresa's there would be—Okay Teresa isn't that bad anymore I guess, but still.

Shut up, you were with a bunch of boys, and managed to get yourself a boyfriend. I'm pretty sure you're the lucky one. Aris scoffed, his voice changing.

I raised my eyebrows, although I was fully aware that he couldn't see that small gesture.

You sound awfully jealous, Aris. Don't turn green on me.

Not my fault that random boys get to spend more time with my best friend then I do.

So you admit it? You're jealous?

Majorly.

I cracked a smile at that, giggling loud enough for my brother to sit up in his bed and look at me.

"Morning." He yawned, stretching his arms above his head. "What are you laughing at?"

"Wha—Nothing. I'm sorry, did I wake you?" I asked, suddenly guilty. Thomas was really tired, and he deserved to sleep.

Shaking his head, he yawned again, giving me a lazy smile. "Nah, that was Teresa."

I smirked, wiggling my eyebrows suggestively at the older boy. He just laughed, a blush coming across his cheeks, noticeable even in the dark.

"It's not like that." He protested, glaring playfully at me. "You should go back to sleep. You look horrible."

"Gee, thanks." I scoffed, turning over and closing my eyes.

A moment of silence past and movement from across the room told me that Thomas did the same, shortly after letting out a quiet sigh. "Everything's going to be okay now, Emma."

And with that, I fell asleep, a small smile playing on my lips as a dream overcame me.

"Aris! Come on, what are you doing? Give that back!" I whined, jutting my bottom lip out like a child. I looked to be around eleven years old, reaching over a white table to grab a book out of a boy's hand. Aris grinned down at me, holding the book even further out of my reach.

"Come on, Kid, jump higher." He teased, causing me to stomp my foot on the ground, my arms crossing over my chest.

"Aris, stop being a meanie!" I cried, stepping onto a chair and climbing on top of the table. Aris' eyes widened and he took a step back, just as I launched forward to grab the book.

"Emma!" He shouted, the sudden exclamation making me jump, successfully resulting in me losing my footing. I let out a small squeak, squeezing my eyes shut in an attempt to brace myself for the impact. I let out a 'oomf' sound, landing with a thud, although it wasn't on the cold floor of the dining room.

"You alright, kid?" Aris asked, staring down at me. A small blush spread across my cheeks and I struggled out of his arms, making him chuckle quietly to himself. When my feet finally hit the ground, he grinned, tilting his head.

"I'm older than you, dummy." I told him, shooting him my best glare. He just rolled his eyes, continuing to grin at me with that cute smile of his—No Emma, what are you saying? You only met him last week! Besides, he probably has cooties! Ew.

"And yet I'm still taller than you!" He laughed, reaching up to ruffle my hair. I slapped his hand away, stepping back.

"Can you not?" I asked, starting to get annoyed.

Aris just snorted, tilting his head. "Wanna be friends?"

My eyes widened and I swear that my jaw hit the ground. "Excuse me?"

He laughed, running a hand through his short cut hair. After what seemed like a moment he took to think, he held up my book, smirking at me. "I'll give you this book if you agree to being my friend, okay?"

I narrowed my eyes at him, taking a moment to consider the proposition. I was only a couple chapters away from the end of the book, and I doubt that anyone would give me another copy. Besides, I really wanted to know what happens to Hazel and Augustus...

"I..." I hesitated slightly before sighing, my shoulders slumping in defeat. "I really hate you."

"It was a pleasure doing business with you." He teased, handing over the book. I just rolled my eyes, unable to control the smile that found its way onto my face.

"Whatever."

~

I shot up in bed, a cold sweat running down my forehead. Either that was a memory, or a scarily realistic dream.

"Emma, wake up!" Newt yelled, shaking me.

"What the shuck, Newt? Does it look like I'm asleep to you?" I shouted, annoyed that he was shaking me so hard.

He just looked at me, with wide, desperate eyes. That's when I noticed it. Everything was in absolute chaos.

"Shit."
