"You're a special girl, Emma."

"Am I?" I scoffed, raising my eyebrows at the lady in front of me. She merely nodding, not affected by my attitude.

"Yes." I groaned loudly, throwing my head back in annoyance.

"Are you going to elaborate? Because I'm starting to get really annoyed with everyone being so elusive. Frist, I get introduced to a boy who's supposed to be my brother—"

"Thomas is your younger brother, yes." I smirked when she said younger, but continued with my rant all the same.

"—and then I get told that I'm our 'future' or something like that. What does that even mean? I'm eleven!"

The lady pressed her lips together, her features remaining calm and patient. She had obviously dealt with confused children before. I'm sure 'my brother' was one of them.

"What you must understand, Emma, is that there's something inside of you—"

"Wait, what? There's something inside of me? What—"

"Emma. Please refrain from interrupting me." I clenched my jaw, but nodded, looking away. "There's something inside you that is very important. Something that we need. Your blood...It's not like the others. It's not like Thomas' or Teresa's."

I have no idea who Teresa is, but kay. Does this lady not realize that I've been here for three days. I've only been introduced to people in white lab coats who like probing me with needles, and an ignorant kid who is supposed to be my brother.

"When we refer to you as our future, we don't mean you particularly, more so your blood." Her gaze hardened and she narrowed her eyes at me. "We don't really need you, Emma. We could drain your blood right now and have enough of it to save millions."

I flinched back, shrinking down into my seat. I didn't like where this was going.

"However, if you agree to cooperate, then there's no need for you to die. We would prefer the second option, considering as you grow, you will continue to create more blood cells, and we can take as much blood as we want. It's a win for both of us.

"How would I be wining in this situation, again?" I asked, my voice weak. I may act all tough and mighty, but when It came down to it, I was only a kid. I didn't like the idea of dying as much as the next person.

"Well for one, you'd live...and so would your mother." I froze in my chair, my heart beating faster.

"You promised you would save her! You said if I came with you, you would save her!" I yelled, standing up from my chair. The lady merely shrugged, a small smirk forming on her lips.

"We said if you cooperate, we will continue to treat her with the Bliss serum. I don't exactly see you cooperating—"

"I will, okay? I swear! I'll do whatever you say! Just please, you have to save her!" I cried, desperate tears blurring my vision. I quickly wiped my eyes, not wanting her to see me cry. I'd never let anyone see me cry. I let out a shaky breath, my voice becoming small. "Please...She's all I have."

"We have to know that you're on our side, Emma. We have to be able to trust you." She said, looking down at some papers on her desk.

My shoulder's slumped in defeat. "Tell me everything. Just...tell me what I have to do."

"You have to save the world."

"How?" I whispered, my voice breaking.

"Like I said, your blood is special. We call it Nepenthe."
