Sally pushes back the hair from her eyes, looking at her reflection in the mirror. Noel didn't call her back. 8 days and he still hadn't called her back. It told her all she needed to know. Sara won. She exhales shakily, closing her eyes to the tears that sting. Sally doesn't understand why it hurts so much. It's not like they were anything special, its not like she loved him. She cared for him deeply but not love. Right?
She puts on her make up, using concealer to hide the bags under her eyes from the sleepless nights. It's Wednesday and she's not working tonight but the thought of staying in all night doing nothing was too much. Sally needs to get out. She needs a drink. She pulls on a pair of black skinny jeans and a tight white Libertines t-shirt, stuffing her feet into a pair of black DC's. She pulls her leather jacket on over the top and stuffs her keys, phone and purse into her pockets, grabbing her cigarettes as she leaves.
Sally wonders through the streets, passing people by in a haze. Sara. Sara is all she can think about. Sara and Noel. Noel and Sara. Noel's hands in Sara's hair. His mouth on hers. Her hands on him. Sally blanches, lighting a cigarette and inhaling deeply. She runs a shaky hand through her fringe, tucking it behind her ears, wishing desperately she could turn her mind off. She was still even dreaming of Noel and every time she woke up it was like the wound was ripped open a little further. Sally just wanted to forget everything. She wishes she could go to sleep and wake up with amnesia, to try to forget the things he'd done, done to her, done for her, everything. She chastises herself. Noel deserved to be happy, that's all she ever wanted for him and now he would be. With Sara.
Of course Noel went go back to Sara. Sara was beautiful, breathtakingly beautiful. Funny. Smart. The mother of his children. The love of his life. Sally is - no was, just some young thing he was fucking. Sally looks up at the sky, trying to blink away the tears. She needs a drink and fast. She dashes into the first pub she sees and orders herself a neat double whisky and a double southern comfort and lemonade. She pays for it and necks the double whisky at the bar, ordering another. She swallows back tears, thinking of Noel, an addiction she will never shake and a drug she will never have again. Sally just wants to forget even if its just for a little while. She barely notices her surroundings. The pub is quiet, music playing softly and only a few people in, some playing pool. The crack of the balls makes her head pound. Sally downs her drink and orders another. And another. And another.
Sally stares into her drink, wishing she could go back in time. Wishing she'd never met Noel Gallagher. Wishing she hadn't gone back to his hotel room. Wishing to take it all back. The pain she had felt over Danny was nothing compared to this. Danny had died, not left her for another woman. There was nothing between her and Noel. They cared for eachother but nothing more. It was a relationship out of convenience, the sex was great. They both knew it. Then why did it hurt Sally so much? She feels empty and numb while simultaneously feeling full, full of pain, core rotting pain. Sally orders another whisky. She was gonna drink until she either passed out or didn't feel anything anymore, whatever came first.
"I think you're missing this," Sally flinches at the sound of a Mancunian voice. God, couldn't they just leave her alone? A straw bobs into her glass and she doesn't have to look to know who it is.
"What are you doing here Sally? Where's Noel?" Sally flinches again at the mention of Noel's name. Why couldn't they just leave her alone? Why did the Gallagher men make it their business to get under her skin? Liam is standing at her elbow, watching her carefully. The barman places the whisky in front of her and she pays for it, downing it in a oner.
"Jeez, bad day love?" Liam asks softly and she scoffs, taking a sip from her drink.
"Come on Sally, talk to me," He says and she looks up, staring straight ahead as she takes a large gulp to help clear the knot in the back of her throat.
"Noel is with Sara," She practically whispers staring at the bottles behind the bar and Liam's eyes widen in shock.
"You're joking," He says and she smiles sadly.
"Nope. She called him and he went to go see her. I haven't heard from him since," She tries to shrug and sound like she doesn't care but the crack in her voice gives her away.
"Aw Sally..." Liam says gently, putting his arm around her shoulders and she tries to pull away.
"Please don't," She whimpers, feeling fresh tears fill her eyes and Liam's beautiful features are marred by sadness.
"Come on Sally. C'mere," He says gently and Sally finds herself being drawn into his chest, his arms wrapping around her as tears silently slip down her cheeks.
"I dunno what to say, I wish there was something I could say. Except... except he doesn't deserve you," He says and she pushes him away, wiping away her tears.
"There's nothing you can say. As for him not deserving me? You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. I didn't deserve him. Just look at me Liam. Fuck. I was just dreaming I was good enough for him. Noel is with Sara, where he should be and I'm where I should be," Sally says and picks up her drink, moving the straw aside and drinking it down.
"Sally that's not true, that's not fucking true at all-"
"Aw fucking save it Gallagher, I'm not stupid. I'm a fucking waste of air," Sally snaps and she's about to order another drink when Liam stops her.
"Stop this Sally," He says and Sally barks a laugh.
"What d'you care? Just fuck off Liam and leave me be," she says and Liam glares at her.
"Y'know the last time I felt like this I was in a pub, drowning my sorrows just like now. I wasn't hurting anyone, wasn't doing anyone any harm, just like now. And just like then a fucking Gallagher is sticking his nose where he's not wanted. Just fuck off Liam, get it through your thick skull that it's over, Noel and I are over, I'm done." Sally bites back the tears, the words tearing at her chest and ripping whatever was left in there.
"Come on, I'm taking you home," Liam says taking her by the arm and she snatches it away, stumbling off her stool.
"Fuck off Liam! I wish all you Gallaghers would fuck off, leave me, stop coming into my life and fucking it all up! Just -" Sally chokes on her last words, sobs desperate to escape her chest and she grabs her jacket from the bar top and half runs, half staggers out the door, biting her lip until she tastes blood to stop the sobs escaping.
"Sally! Sally!" Liam is calling after her and he grabs her by the arm halfway along the street. She starts sobbing hard, trying to shove him off as he grab her by her upper arms.
"I wish I'd never fucking met him," She cries, finally breaking down and Liam catches her in his arms as she collapses into his chest, finally letting out just how utterly destroyed she is that Noel is gone.
