I wake up on Christmas Eve morning and I immediately become more excited for the day that's ahead. Nothing could bring me down today because today is the day that my sister Amarah will be driving down from Northern California with her fiance and Ashlynn, my other sister, will be landing from New York with her boyfriend. Finally, this house wouldn't be so empty.
After checking my phone and replying to Mal's texts (I filled her in on everything that happened last night with Tyler), I get out of bed and make my way to the bathroom that's linked to my bedroom and I do my morning routine. I get out of the shower and head back into my room to pick an outfit. I decide on a simple Fall Out Boy shirt and leggings. I do my makeup all fancy with no specific reason.
I go down to the kitchen when I'm done getting ready and I grab a Starbuck's frappuccino out of the fridge. I decide to call Amarah to see what time she'll be here.
"Hey Amarah!" I yell into the phone. I'm always temporarily happy when I get to talk to Amarah, but today I'm ok so I was happy even before the call.
"Aw, hey baby. What's up?" Amarah has called me "baby" since I was around 14 and before she left because that's around the age we got really close.
"What time are you and Michael coming over?"
"Um, hopefully we'll be there by six tonight, but I'm not sure how traffic will be," she explains.
"Oh, ok and do you know when Ash's flight will be landing? I think I should go pick her up from the airport."
"Around 4 I believe, but I think that the real question is when did you get a car? I didn't get a car until I got a job and could pay for everything myself."
"Well, mom and dad are never around so they figured they should get me a car so I could drive myself around...I guess you can say that they took an expensive shortcut to good parenting," I say as I actually laugh a little. Amarah laughs as well because she knows how much it sucks to not have parents around. She was just lucky enough to always have a twin sister around until she moved out with Michael.
Amarah and I talked for a little while before she had to go get ready. I decided to make some hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies because I'm Christmas AF. As it neared 4pm, I decided that I should head to the airport so that I got there in time for Ashlynn and Brian.
I hop in my black Volkswagen Beetle and start driving. It's not the best car, but it's better than no car. Plus, I've always had an interest in them- even before I became obsessed with cars such as Corvettes and Camaros. Of course I would love to have my own Corvette, but my parents would never get me one.
»*the next day*«
Christmas morning. Probably the only morning that I'm actually willing to get out of bed before 12pm. Last night my sisters and I fell asleep in one bed after catching up on each others lives. We decided to make the guys stay in the guest room together because sisters need time alone.
I head downstairs after brushing my teeth and see my mother sitting at the dining room table and replying to emails.
"Where's dad?" I ask. He can't be at work.
"I'm sorry sweetie, but he got called in for an emergency board meeting," my mother says while continuously typing.
"And you're okay with him working on Christmas morning?" She turns and looks at me after I ask my question.
"You think I would be okay with my husband leaving his family on Christmas morning? Of course I'm not okay with it, but I'm not going to waste my time dwelling over something I can't change. One day you'll learn to move on from the things you can't change Shay. Now, go wake up your sisters and the guys."
