"EMMELINE!" My mum's voice shrieked up the stairs.Ugh. Why does she have to be so persistent?

" What?" I threw back.

"COME HERE AND MOVE THE REST OF YOUR BOXES, YOU KNOW I'M STRESSED ENOUGH AS IT IS!"

Making my way down the stairs I decided to run the last few steps not wanting to test her patience any more. I instantly felt guilty as I looked at her.

Her fiery locks curled down in messy heaped ringlets and her under eyes were shadowed with tiredness and grief. I got my kick flavour of copper in my brown hair from my mum's current red nest. Her hair was usually perfectly curled and I always looked upon it with awe compared to my straight neat hair. Though her hair had been worn down from the move just like her as I looked upon her tired stance. It's always been my mum and me I didn't have a clue about my father as my mother refused to speak of him. I guess he was a tall fellow as I lean downwards to embrace my mothers small height.

"It's going to be okay mum."

"I know darling, it's just hard you know?"

"Yeah I know." We decided to move all the way from England to Florida after my Gran died. I loved my Gran she helped my mum raise me and always smelled of lavender. Old age got the better of a good woman and so here we are halfway across the world to live near my mum's sister.

I'm  glad that my Aunt Delia rang a couple of months ago with news of a specialised nursing job for my mum at the hospital she worked at. I'm seventeen now and soon I would be leaving my mum to live my own life and go to college and now I didn't have to worry about her being on her own.

We always visited my mums family in the summer with my Gran but we stayed in England because my Gran refused to move to a place smothered by heat and cowboys.

"your sure your okay moving so far away from home? your friends? "she asked hesitantly.

"Hey, quit worrying! I can make new friends and its like being permanently being on holiday and ooh did I mention how good the creative subjects are at Meadow high. Not to mention I can hang out more with Savannah now!"

My mother laughed at me ," alright , alright I get it. Now go upstairs and get these boxes unpacked ...Savannah will be here soon."

At the mention of my cousins and best friends name excitement bubbled in my chest and I grabbed the box rushing upstairs towards my new room. I hadn't seen Savannah since I was 14 as plain tickets were expensive these days though we still talked as often as we could.

I loved my new room , it was spacious with oak wood ceiling and flooring. My mum had gone to the liberty of having it set up decorated ready to move my stuff in before we moved here as a surprise. The bottom half of my walls were covered in oak wood of course but the top was covered in a beautiful wall paper design of birds and flowers that twisted together in an array of summer colours. She had truly out done herself on the bed- it was a woodland themed canopy bed with exquisite detail on the branches. It was beautiful and I loved it. I also had a walking wardrobe disguised by wooden shutters and a modern white desk for my computer. In all my mum qualified as the best one ever , she new me so well.

"My my our mum really out did herself didn't she?" a voice cut into my silent moment soaking in the view and sun.

"SSAAVVAANNAHH!" I squealed jumping across the room into her embrace.

"What up cuz?"

"I can't believe your here - it's been too long."

"Damn right it has! I've missed my favourite cousin.Huh. You really took a shine to pubity. I mean you really rocked braces but this -"she whistled"- is gonna have boys stalking you for miles."

I felt a blush creep to my cheeks I knew I wasn't ugly but Savannah was overkilling with exaggeration something the girl never ran out of."what are you talking about you are absolutely gorgeous Savannah!" And she was ,she held a beauty that others couldn't help but be jealous of. She was snow white in real life albeit a slightly tanned one though savannah struggled to tan to her dismay. The only thing we had in common was that we both had long straight hair and were both tall. She had an excellent figure , ruby red lips and hair as black as the night sky.

"Well I have to be in top shape if I want to find me some boys. I heard we have some new hottie transfer male as well as you" she said raising her brow at me while I just laughed at her.

"You never change"I replied shaking my head with a smile,"come on help me unpack."

After that mum let us order pizza and we spent the rest of the night catching up. I retired to my bed early , nervous already for my first day at Meadow Hall.
