"Are you sure you have everything?" mom asked tenderly
"Yes mom I'm sure."
"I'm going to miss having you around, with your father gone and Jake out fighting the war, I'll only have the cats."
"I'll miss you too mom."
"Your dad would be so proud to see you like this."
I kissed my moms cheek before saying goodbye and stepping out into our warm front yard. This is it. The beginning of my life. I step off my porch and down the cement walkway to the yellow Volkswagen bug I'm going to start my life with.
"First stop, Belles house." I mumbled to myself
Once I turned the corner and started down the street I immediately saw Belle standing on her front porch. I arrived at her modern twin home and stepped out.
"YOURE FINALLY DOING IT!!!"
Belles scream was followed by a large hug that almost sent both of us to the ground.
"I'm living the dream. Do you remember when we made the bucket lists? Well I'm starting off mine."
"I don't want you to go."
"I won't be that far.."
"Nice try. But you're finally living your dream. Call me every day."
Belle's eyes started to well up with tears. Her best friend was leaving to college and she couldn't do anything about it.
"Don't you dare cry. I'll cry too."
With that said I started to sob and she did the same. I gave Belle a large hug before saying goodbye.
"Time to start this." I said to myself when I got back in my car.

"Is this all your luggage m'am?""Yes sir thank you so much."
"Go up to security and then you can board your flight in about 30 minutes."
I nodded and started up the escalators. This was it. I was leaving my hometown, leaving everything. Leaving James. The thought of him made me shudder.
How selfish of him, he didn't want me to go. He tried to stop me. He tried all he could. It's his fault for-
"Excuse me miss?"
My train of thought was cut off. I had walked straight to the front of the line for security.
"Ah yes sorry."
I placed all my belongings in the box and started threw the scanners.
"Thank you."
I nodded and walked to the gate. 15 minutes to spare. I sat down far away from anyone. Near the large windows and I watched the other airplanes take off and I pictured the many faces on them.
Then I pulled out the list.
•move out
•go to college
•become best friends with roommates
•fall in love
•try new things
•travel the world
•have a family
•add on to bucket list
I have it all planned out. And noes the first step to my journey.
"Now boarding flight 335 to Michigan."
The intercom was loud and booming. It made my heart pound. I stepped into the long line in between a man in his 50s carrying a dog and a irritated mother with 6 children.
"May I see your ticket?"
"Here you go."
"STOP TOUCHING ME." The oldest of the six children yelled from behind me
"Enjoy your flight." The lady smiled
"I MEAN IT! I TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU TO DO IT AGAIN."
"Thank you." I responded and stepped into the boarding zone. "This is it, no turning back now."

The plane ride was long. I was an hour in so far. When my music playlist stopped I sat in silence and thought. What if I stayed? Would I have a future with James? Would my life be as filled? I still miss him. It was unfair but I understand. But this is the best choice for me right?"
"YOURE LEAVING ME?"
"James, I'm not leaving you. I got accepted to my dream school, aren't you happy?"
"I'm sorry that was loud. But happy?! Happy?!? Congrats your hard work has paid off. You were accepted."
"I don't like the sarcasm in your tone.."
"I don't like that you will be living far away from me. I didn't picture college like this."
"We still have another semester of high school, we will figure it out."
The memories hit me like waves. The emotions still bottled up. I remember how it felt, it wasn't good to know my main supporter wasn't there.
"I don't want to waste my time."
I remember the soft spoken mumble. The soft mumble that made me realize he was done.
"I don't want to date you anymore if we don't have any sort of future. Spend the next semester getting over me because we're threw."
And that was that. That's all I remember from that dreadful night. Only in my memories. I could've said something different, I could've stopped him. Instead I let him walk out the door. I let him leave. I needed to go to this school. I needed it more than I needed him.
"Excuse me miss? Can I help you to any refreshments?"
"Yes thank you, I'll take a Coke and pretzels."
My food was quickly devoured and I fell asleep.
