*The next day*
It was my final interview that morning and I was getting used to it.
The fancy cameras, strange ear pieces and lots of fake smiles.
I had been passed around by the news channels for the entire day and had answered millions of questions about what happened, what made me do it and if I had some sort of relationship with Jase.
I stood behind a camera, a lady with a headset had a firm grip on my arm, like I was a three year old and there was a danger that I would run away. I was wearing a white silk collared blouse, tucked into a orange skirt, silver strappy heels and a chunky silver necklace. My champaign hair was slightly curled and I had on simple make up to brighten my Monday morning face.
I heard the host announce my name and my arm was suddenly freed from the lady's sweaty grip right before I was shoved in the back towards my allotted chair. The interviewer turned to me and smiled.
"Hello Mia. Welcome to the ABC studios." She said.
"Hi Vanessa. Thank you for having me." I replied confidently.
The rest of the interview went without a catch and I finally was released from the busy studio. I only had to glance around for a second to find James' neon green ute, parked 2 meters away from where I was standing.
I walked over quickly and slid in the back seat. "Hey..." I started before I realised what my brother was doing. I girl was literally sitting on top of him and half eating his face off. I nearly gagged.
The girl glanced up and pulled back suddenly, leaning on the horn as she did, helping James out of his trance like state.
"Hi." She said. "You must be the famous Mia. I'm Jasmine."
"And I'm catching the bus." I said and retched open the door.
Walking down the street, I shook my head trying to get the horrible picture of my brother out of my mind but it could never be unseen.
I swung by Zarraffa's on my way to the bus stop and picked up a mocha. My bus pulled up just as I finished my coffee and I hopped on. I squeezed past a tall boy in leather and grabbed the nearest pole just as the bus pulled away from the gutter.
The boy next to me shifted and I glanced up to his face. My jaw dropped.
"Jase?" I asked horrified.
He looked at me and flashed his trademark grin. "Hey Mi."
"What are you doing out of hospital?" I nearly screamed.
"It was getting boring." He said matter of factly.
"Are you serious? You weren't even discharged?" I was getting frantic.
Jase put his hands on my shoulders and looked at me with a concerned look on his face. "Hey calm down. I am completely fine. Breathe."
I took deep breaths trying to calm my shaking hands.
"Ok. I'm fine." I said after a while. Then my hand cracked across his face. "You are so stupid." I fumed.
Panic replaced by anger.
He let go of my shoulders and put one up to feel his cheek and rocked back on his heels.
I had no idea how he was going to react.
After a second he grinned. "Feisty. I like it."
He looked at me. Something about my face made him put his hands up to protect his face.
"Please I'm sorry don't hit me." He begged.
I tried so hard but I couldn't help it. I laughed.
He slowly pulled his hands down from his face.
We continued to talk before we both hopped off at the same stop.
Before we parted he turned to me. "You know it was nice of you to care so much." He paused as if he was trying to find the words to say something, then gave up. "Can I have your number?"
I rolled my eyes, but gave it to him anyway.
