Chapter Five – Melody POV
“My mum is working late today, so you’re coming over.” I told Hazel as we walked to school, not even giving her chance to decline. “I told her we’d be doing homework.”
Hazel gave me a bored look. “But that’s obviously not going to happen.” She mused, grinning as we both exchanged a knowing glance.
“Movie marathon.” We said at the same time.
“I’m picking first.” Hazel said immediately after, poking out her tongue as she noticed my glare.
“No way, you picked first last time, plus, it’s my house.” I argued.
Hazel gave an unladylike snort and shoved my shoulder playfully. “Firstly, I practically live at your house, and secondly, I didn’t pick last time. You did.”
I scowled at Hazel and bit my tongue, there was no point in trying to challenge her. She would somehow find a way to blackmail me, just like she always did. I help my hands up in surrender. “Okay, you win.”
“Of course I win. I always win.”
“That’s because you blackmail people.” I muttered.
“Yeah, that’s true.” She mused, looking as if she was thinking about that thought for a moment.
I rolled my eyes and opened my mouth to say something, but before I could utter a single word, I felt a large amount of pressure bang against my back and shoulder right shoulder. The sudden impact caused me to stumble and topple over.
“Watch it you pricks!” Hazel shouted at three boys who were running past, sniggering underneath their breaths. Obviously they had intentionally pushed me over. She bent down, quickly looking over me. “You alright?”
I nodded.
As I sat up, I glared in the direction of where the three boys stood, a few metres away; two of which were laughing. Obviously amused by the fact that they had managed to knock me off my feet. The third boy grins arrogantly, and shoots Hazel an annoyed glare as she speaks.
“You morons better get moving before I kick your butts.” Hazel muttered bitterly.
“Hold your tongue.” The boy spat at Hazel.
Hazel raised an eyebrow, an almost amused expression appearing upon her face; but it wasn’t hard to notice the glare within her hazel eyes and I knew these boys were going to be in deep shit in a moment.
“How about you hold your own, or would you like me to cut it out for you?” Hazel taunted right back at him.
The same boy seemed completely ignorant of her comment, and hummed quietly in thought. “You should really learn your place.” He mused, the corners of his lips curling upwards in taunting sneer. “We know where we stand, perhaps you should learn to know when your presence is not actually appreciated, mutt.”
“What did you just call me?” She retaliated immediately, angling her body away from me to stare at the boys.
“Did you really just call my friend a dog?” I snapped boldly, wincing as I stood up, my ankle throbbing slightly in pain.
“Would you rather me call her a b*tch?” He questioned, tilting his head to the side and sneering at us. His sneer looked all too familiar to me, and it reminded me much of Naomi’s sneers. It almost seemed to taunt us into retaliating.
