Chapter 14
Jason POV -
I was completely and utterly fuming with annoyance as I stomped down the stairs, closely followed by Chase who honestly looked guilty and possibly scared. It was natural for any pack member to bow down to me, especially when my wolf was on the verge of having a temper tantrum.
My wolf, and I hated the thought of leaving my mate to sleep alone without us with her, but there was a situation that I needed to attend to immediately. Despite that thought, I couldn't help but think back to only a few moments ago. I savoured the fact that Melody was mine and mine only, and the thoughts that rushed through my mind only caused my wolf to growl pleasantly.
I had to agree with my wolf completely on anything to do with our mate, she was completely and utterly beautiful to us and I knew my wolf wouldn't hesitant to tear any ones throat out if they said otherwise.
A small smile spread across my lips which were previously spread into a straight line, the thoughts on how sweet her skin tasted and the quiet moans I knew she was trying to hold back only caused my wolf to growl with satisfaction once again.
However, there was one thing that tugged at my chest and that was the picture of her father that she had shown me. The man that shared the same eye colour as Melody seemed somewhat familiar to me. It was possible I had seen another image of the man, seeing as my father had documents on a couple of well-known wolves, such as alphas. I mentally told myself that I would have to ask either my mother or Beta Michael if they knew who the man might be.
I was brought out of my thoughts and back into reality when I reached the underground cell room. Even through the thick metal door I could hear the constant banding sound of body on metal and the snarling of a rogue.
My own wolf was quick to respond to the aggressiveness of the rogue and a snarl was forced out of me.
I walked along the cells, stopping in front of the cell where a rogue was still ramming his body into the bars. But to my satisfaction I noticed that he now seemed tired and weak and his were also bleeding, obviously due to the silver with lined the bars.
Due to my previous snarl I managed to gain the attention of the rogue and he stops ramming his bleeding and weak body into the bars. But he holds his head up high with dark eyes that watched me closely. I easily noticed the smugness within them and he almost seemed glad he had caused me to react to his temper tantrum.
"Shift." I snap, crossing my arms over my shirtless chest, only just realising that I was only in my boxers; seeing as I was preparing to go to bed with my mate.
The rogue snarls once at me before shifting back, obviously not concerned about being stark naked. He remains crouched on his heels and leans towards the bars, but makes sure he doesn't touch them. "Surprising to see you down here." He snickers.
I hold my breath for a brief second, forcing my wolf not to give the rogue any reaction. "What do you want?"
"Nothing in particular, just wanted to see how my favourite alpha was doing." He chuckled dryly, the sarcasm laced through his tone. He then chuckled, running his fingers through his brown hair. "You won't win."
A frown forms over my facial features and I clenched my fist, still trying to stop my wolf from reacting.
"He will get her, he always gets what he wants; one way or another."
I watch as his dirty golden eyes darker a few shades as he breathed inwards deeply, and is eyes close briefly before snapping open in surprise before another smug look replaced that surprise. "The girl, she's in the pack house." He says lowly, looking from me to his fellow rogue companions who were all trapped in their own cells. All looking in my direction with dangerous expressions on the faces. One however laughs.
"If she's in the pack house it means she has finally shifted. Her mother didn't do too well at blocking her wolf, now did she?" He laughs.
"That's great!" The rogue in front of me speaks up again, causing my attention to divert from the laughing rogue back to him. "He will be very glad!"
The name Lucian was familiar to me and I easily recalled what Natasha had said to me the night Melody had gone through her first shift. Lucian wanted her, he wanted my mate. The thought was enough to cause a furious snarl to rip through my chest.
The rogue then falls silent after hearing me snarl and stares at me intently, obviously something clicks within his mind and he only chuckles. "You're her mate." He remarks with a sly grin.
"What does Lucian want with her?" I snarl, staring down at the rogue as my claws began to extend, digging into the palm of my hands and drawing blood.
"That's for me to know and you to find out." He smirks.
"You better spit it out rogue or I won't hesitant to get in there and torture the answer out of you." I reply, my wolf beginning to fight against me in an attempt to gain control.
"That's quite a temper you got there." The rogue replies dryly.
"Don't test me rogue." I growled.
The rogue says nothing and only stares at me with smugness. But when he growled, my wolf reacted instantly.
I reached through the cell bars, ignoring the pain that ran through my arm as it pressed up against the silver bars. I could feel the burning of the silver but I gave no notice of it, more focused on getting the answers I wanted out of the rogue. My fingers tightly gripped the rogues brown hair and I yanked him forward harshly, causing his face to smash against the metal bars. "Answer me!"
The rogue yells as the burning of the silver caused the skin on his face to become a red colour and begin to peel. He struggles to escape my right grip, but made no achievement in doing so.
"Are you going to answer me now?" I growled lowly, bending over so that I was now the same height of the rogue. I also managed to grab an eyeful of the developing wounds on his face, and I knew he would be scarred for life.
The rogue growls, still struggling to get away from my grip and away from the bars he was harshly pressed up against. But in the end he spits out a yes.
I release my grip on his hair, my wolf growling with satisfaction of the rogue scramble out of arm's length. I watched as the rogue touched his face before looking back at me with a snarl.
"What does Lucian want with my mate?" I repeat.
"Lucian wants her for his son." The rogue tells me, still snarling as he now moves onto fixing his hair after finally realising he could do nothing to fix his face but wait for his wolf to begin healing him.
His answer caused an instant reaction out of my wolf and he snarled out of pure anger. No! She is mine, my mate and only mine!
I agreed with my wolf completely.
"Why?" I say through gritted teeth, fighting to keep my wolf under control who was growing even more aggressive with each passing second. The inner battle I was fighting with my wolf was a hard one. One that I knew I would have to give into eventually, but for now, I wanted to remain in control so I could get the answers I wanted. And I knew all too well that I wouldn't get them in wolf form.
"She provides the perfect mate for his son. Together they could create strong and powerful offspring."
Another snarled ripped through my chest and I felt the great urge to punch or kick something, preferably one of the rogues. "Why Melody?" My voice now straining as I continued to fight that inner battle with my wolf.
"Her ancestors, she is powerful and is of strong alpha blood." The rogue answers, shrugging his shoulders as if it wasn't a big deal. However he snarled seconds later when another rogue snapped at him for giving me all the answers.
I turned to glare at the rogue who had just snapped and I snarled loudly, my canines elongated and claws now extended to their full length. "Lucian will not get her, never!"
The rogue who I had been speaking to previously laughed. "He will. He gets whatever he wants."
And that was when I lost all control, my wolf taking over my body and I was forced to shift out of pure anger. My only item of clothing tearing into shreds as my large black wolf replaced my human form. My wolf was seeing red and wanted nothing more than to sink his teeth into some flesh.
"Chase, unlock his cell." I ordered through the mind link, only just remembering that he was still standing in the room with me. Chase seemed hesitant about unlocking the cell but as I spoke again through the mind link it was obvious my wolf had used the alpha tone. "Unlock his cell."
Chase was forced to listen to me, just like any other pack member would be if I used the alpha tone on them. Chase grabbed the keys and unlocked the cell door, pulling it open ever so slowly.
The rogue stood and shifted in his wolf form, his brown fur all mattered and the fur on his sides and face red from blood. The rogue snarled at me, holding his stance with his hackles raised and teeth bared. Despite his somewhat threatening stance I easily noticed the flicker of fear in his eyes and that caused my wolf to growl with amusement.
As soon as the cell door was opened wide enough; I attacked. I met the rogue head first, the top of my head crashing into the rogues chest. He stumbled backwards and I launched myself at him, my fangs sinking into every bit of flesh I could reach. The rogue attempted to dodge my attacks as best as he could and even tried to land his own attacks on me, but was failing miserably.
His moves were clumsy, slow and it was obvious that he was weakening at a fast rate.
My wolf slowly began to calm down and soon enough I was able to regain control, releasing the rogue from where I had him pinned to the ground. His brown fur was covered in his own blood and he looked like an absolute wreck. The rogue weakly scrambled away from me, collapsing to the ground in the corner of the cell; letting out a weak whine.
I snarled again, tasting the metallic taste of the rogue's blood in my mouth. At the back of my mind I could sense the throbbing pain in my shoulder, one of the only wounds the rogue had managed to inflict on me.
With my wolf now under control I charged out of the cell and past Chase who made no attempt to stop me. I ran up the stairs onto the main floor, shaking my head and snapping my jaws to try stop myself from turning back around to go attack the rogue again.
I needed to get out of the pack house, and fast. And with that thought in mind I charged at the back door, my body slamming into it and causing the door to swing open and go flying off its hinges. Finally releasing another snarl, I ran; disappearing underneath the shadows of the trees.
I ran to the only spot I could think of and that was the river. The sound of the rushing water reaching my ears as I approached at a fast pace and I only slowed down when it finally came into view before me.
I now sat beside the river after shifting back into my human form and having washed myself down, removing the droplets of blood on my skin. The bite wound on my shoulder causing a slight pain but it was already beginning to heal and later on tonight it would be nothing but a scar...
_______
It had to be at least an hour or two until I returned to the pack house, naked as the day I was born. But at this point I honestly couldn't care less. All I wanted to do was get into bed and curl up beside my mate.
The back door was on the ground, smashed into three large pieces and the hinges were basically ripped out of the wall. I picked up the broken pieces and placed them in a pile, also reminding myself to get someone to fix the door in the morning.
The house was completely silent as I headed inside and slowly began to head up the stairs and into my room. As I pushed the door open I was instantly flooded with my mates scent and I expected to see her curled up in my bed. But instead she was asleep on the chair next to the window and as if sensing my presence she groaned quietly and moved slightly.
I headed over to my clothes draw and pulled out some boxers, quickly slipping into them before heading over to Melody, giving her shoulder a shake to wake her.
As her blue eyes opened and met mine I felt my whole body relax instantly. But then she sat up so quickly I believed she could have given herself whiplash.
"What happened?" She asked instantly.
I was hesitant about giving her the true answer, so I just lied. "Nothing important."
Melody only nods her head but doesn't look full convinced.
"Now, more importantly. Why aren't you asleep?" I asked, quickly looking over my mate's appearance. My wolf growled with satisfaction and I had to agree with him completely, I loved having my mate wear my shirt.
"I was asleep, you just woke me." She answered, stifling a yawn as she stretched.
"I mean, why weren't you asleep in bed?" I reply, rewording my question with a small smirk stretched across my lips.
Melody only shrugs her shoulders. "Just couldn't sleep." She mumbled in reply.
Instantly I couldn't help but wonder if she couldn't sleep because I wasn't with her, the thought made me feel somewhat guilty for being the reason she couldn't sleep. But the feeling of happiness made both myself and my wolf feel good.
With a second thought I bent down and picked her up off the chair, holding her small frame against my chest.
"I can walk." Melody informed me, wrapping her arms around my neck with only caused my wolf to begin purring.
"I know." I answered with a smirk as I set her down on the bed. She instantly rolled and moved around a bit a few times, wrapping the blanket around herself as she tried to get comfortable.
I quickly climbed in next to her and she stopped wriggling as I grabbed hold of her waist and pulled her up against me. My chest pressed up against her back. I nuzzled my face into the crook of her neck and breathed inwards, taking in her sweet scent of vanilla and pine.
"Goodnight Melody." I murmured against her skin, closing my eyes and smiling as I felt her shiver.
"Goodnight." She mumbles, soon going still in my arms. Her breath evening out as she drifted off to sleep.
With my mate in my arms I willed for sleep to come and it did; and with that I was out like a light.
_______
I wasn't what woke me that morning, whether it was the fact that my mate was no longer sleeping beside me or that there was a loud crashing and banging sound coming from downstairs, it didn't matter. It still woke me up.
In the mist of sleepiness I quickly realised my mate was no longer beside me and that caused my wolf to growl; worried for our mate.
Her sweet scent lingered in the room but that wasn't enough to calm my worried wolf. I kicked off the blankets and jumped out of bed, following my mates scent down the stairs and onto the main floor.
Several other pack members were awake and they glanced at me, some nodding their heads to me in respect whilst a couple looked at me before chuckling quietly and shaking their heads slowly. That was what confused me and caused me to pull up short and stare at the pack members that were laughing quietly.
"What?" I finally snapped, causing a few pack members to jump.
"Nothing Alpha Jason." A boy named Ryan replied just as Diana replied, "go check the kitchen."
I nodded my head to Diana and headed towards the kitchen and as I approached I could understand why several pack mates had been laughing.
From the hallway I could hear Melody laughing loudly whilst Avery was shouting just as loudly.
I entered the kitchen and instantly my eyes widened with uttered surprise as I looked around the room. It was a complete and utter mess. There was flour on the floors, walls and even the ceiling. Smashed eggs on the walls and several other cooking substances covered some part of the kitchen. It was as if a bomb of food had blown up in the room.
"What is going on in here?" I asked.
Finally noticing my presence Avery's and Melody's jaws snapped shut. Avery straightened up suddenly hiding whatever she was holding behind her back whilst Melody grinned at me sheepishly.
"She started it." Avery shouted, pointing at Melody.
Melody's eyes widened and her jaws dropped. "I did not!" She shouts back, glaring at Avery who poked her tongue out at her.
I quickly observed the two, noticing that they looked just as bad as the kitchen did; covered in flour and egg. Avery even had a metal pot on the top of her head, like some sort of helmet.
I snorted at Avery's accusation towards my mate. "Like I'm going to believe you Avery, I know who too well. You obviously caused this." I say.
Avery's facial expression now replicates the one Melody had just moments ago and she opens her mouth to argue but I cut her off. "Don't even try to prove your innocence."
Avery then crossed her arms over her chest, her bottom lip sticking out as she pouted like a little child. "You're no fair Jason. Horrible brother you are." She mumbled underneath her breath.
Rolling my eyes I walked over to Melody, noticing that she had flour on her cheeks now that I was up close. With my thumb I wiped the flour off her cheeks, only causing my mate to blush and look away from me. I just couldn't help but smirk at her reaction.
"So, what happened in here?" I drawled, leaning against the counter as I glanced from Melody to Avery.
"We were trying to cook pancakes." Melody tells me. "Me, Avery and Holly."
"But then Hunter sneaked up from nowhere and ditched an egg at Holly, and you know what happens when Holly gets angry. So she ditched one back at him and they started a food fight which we got caught in, then Hunter threw Holly over his shoulder and ran out of the room with her." Avery explained quickly.
"And I guess we all know what the two are probably up to right now." She says, shuddering and making some sort of grossed facial expression.
"Didn't need that image in my head." I hear Chase say as he enters the room behind me. "Wow, what the hell happened in here?!" He says, pulling up short as he looked around the room.
"What did you do Avery?" Chase says, immediately blaming Avery.
"Hey, it wasn't my fault!" Avery snaps, ditching whatever she had been hiding behind her back at Chase's face.
It turned out to be an egg and since Chase didn't realise until too late the egg smashed into the forehead and cracked, now covered in egg he growled. "You better run." He growled lowly before charging after Avery who squealed and sprinted for the back door.
It flung open and she disappeared outside, closely followed by Chase who was now shouting curses at her.
I chuckled, glancing over at Melody who was staring at the door with wide eyes and a large smile spread across her lips. As if sensing my gaze on her she glanced over at me.
I smiled warmly at her and grabbed her hand, entwining my fingers within her which only caused her to blush once again. "You need to wash up." I told her, tugging her arm gently as I led her out the room and back upstairs into my bed room.
I grabbed Melody a spare towel from the cupboard and passed it to her, smiling as I heard her mumble a quiet thanks before quickly running into the bathroom and closing the door behind her. Seconds later I heard the shower starting along with the almost silent humming of Melody.
______
I remained in my room, playing on my phone as I waited for Melody. I knew I probably had better things to do like going through some of the stacks of paper in the office or even checking up on the border patrols, but I wanted nothing more than to just be near my mate. Just to know that she was safe and wouldn't leave me.
At least fifteen minutes later the shower stopped and at the same time my wolf growled quietly, causing me to think of lustful images. I mentally scolded my wolf before returning to playing on my phone.
"Shit." I hear Melody mutter quietly. I threw my phone aside and walked across the room knocking on the bathroom door, worried more my mate.
"What is it Melody?" I asked, leaning against the door.
"Um..." I hear Melody say quietly, sounding hesitant to tell me what was wrong.
"Melody." I drawl, knocking on the door again. "If you don't tell me I'll knock down this door."
"No!" Melody shouts, causing me to grin and chuckle to myself. "Sorry." I hear her mutter seconds later.
"It's ok Melody, now what's wrong?" I ask.
It is silent once again for a few moments before Melody finally answers me, her voice so quiet that I barely even heard it. "I forgot to grab my clothes, do you think you could grab my bag."
My body stiffened up for a spilt second as once again my wolf sent lustful images to my mind and I groaned quietly, leaning against the door as I scolded my wolf once again, only for him to snort in amusement.
I headed across the room and picked up Melody's bag, heading back to the bathroom door and knocking on the door. "I've got your bag." I say through gritted teeth.
The door opens slightly and my eyes widen as I catch a glimpse of Melody standing there, clutching her towel to her chest, her own cheeks bright pink. Melody held out her hand and I passed the bag to her, my eyes still wide as I watched Melody closely.
"Thank you." I hear her murmur quietly as her fingers wrap around the bag strap, gently brushing against mine and causing my body to freeze up as I felt those natural sparks. My wolf growled quietly and I knew he wanted to take control and claim Melody as his, but I forced him back. I knew I couldn't do that to Melody, she had only just been introduced into the werewolf world and still didn't understand everything about mates.
I forced myself to release the bag from my grip and I took a small step back, my gaze still fixated on Melody. Her cheeks still pink as she blushed and closed the door.
I remained standing in that spot for at least another thirty seconds or so before groaning and rubbing my hands over my face, grabbing a fistful of my black hair as I slumped back into the chair I had been sitting in previously.
At least five minutes later Melody emerged, the door creaking quietly and easily gaining my attention.
Melody had cleaned herself up, her damp hair tied into a messy bun on the top of her head, she was wearing black skinny jeans and a white off-shoulder shirt with cursive black writing across the front. As Melody caught my gaze she stopped, still holding the bag in her hands.
"Do I looked fine?" She asks quietly.
I don't answer immediately as my eyes wander over her small frame and my wolf growls approvingly. I swallow and nod my head, smiling as I met her blue eyes. "You look beautiful." I answer honestly, rising to stand.
Melody gives a small nod of her head and places her bag on the floor near the end of the bed; mentally I reminded myself that I would have to clear out my wardrobe and some of my draws so Melody could put her clothes in them as well.
When she straightened up I approached her and within three steps I stood right in front of her, towering over her. Melody's head tipped backwards as she looked up at me, her blue eyes widen slightly.
Somewhat unaware of my own actions I leant downwards, nuzzling my nose into the crook of her neck whilst breathing inwards; taking in her scent. My fingers wrapped around her waist and I gently pulled her body up against me, fully aware of how her body fit next to mine like a puzzle piece. She was made for me and I had no intentions of ever letting her go.
I softly trailed my nose along her shoulder, planting a soft kiss here and there. A smile of satisfaction spreading across my lips as I caused Melody to shiver. I knew she could feel the exact same sparks as I could.
I gently nipped at her soft skin and trailed soft kisses up her neck, my wolf growling quietly once again as Melody moved her head, giving me more access. Through the haziness I could feel Melody's hands run up my arms, to my shoulders and up to my neck where her arms wrapped loosely around my neck and her fingers became tangled into my hair.
I trailed my lips along her jaw bone, groaning quietly as I felt her warm breath fanning over my cheeks. I lifted my head as I observed my mate, her cheeks were pink and her eyes were closed. As if sensing my gaze on her face, her bright blue eyes flickered open to meet mine, and that was enough for me to finally lose control.
I removed one hand from her waist and brought it to cup the back of her head as I crashed my lips onto hers.
My wolf howled inside of me and I resisted the urge to groan as I felt Melody's once loose grip around my neck tighten as she pulled me impossibly closer to her.
I tilted my head slightly and deepened the kiss.
My wolf loving how Melody responded and embraced us with a quiet gasp. I brought both of my hands down to her waist squeezing lightly as I walked forward, causing her to walk backwards until she touched the wall. I pressed every part of my body against hers.
Now trapped in my embrace Melody's fingers gently tugged at my black hair and I eagerly deepened the kiss even more. My wolf growling as Melody gently nipped my bottom lip, causing quite a reaction from me as I pressed my body against hers even more if it was possible; earning another gasp.
I gently traced her bottom lip with my tongue and her lips parted slightly, her breath fanning over my face as I raised my head to take a breath of air.
I placed my lips back onto hers, my tongue slipping past her lips and invading her mouth. Her taste exploding into my mouth, causing me to groan once again. Melody's grip on my hair loosened and her hands lightly trailed down my arms and back up again.
My fingers gently lifted her shirt up her waist, my fingertips now gently brushing over the soft skin of my mate's waist; causing her she shiver.
As I pulled back to take another breath of air my wolf surged forward, wishing to take control and mark Melody. I wanted it almost as badly as he did, but I wouldn't allow it and I roughly shoved my wolfs needs to the back of my mind and that was when, we were interrupted, once again.
The bedroom door swung open so suddenly, causing a loud banging sound. Melody jumps and yelps whilst my wolf growls. I turn to face whoever was standing at the door, still growling.
"Please no baby making, I'm too young to be an aunt." Avery says and I look up to see the smug expression plastered on her face.
From the corner of my eye I see Melody's jaw drop open, her blue eyes wide and her face flushed.
"You look a little flushed Melody, you alright?" Avery asks humorously.
I growl, turning my attention back to Avery. I notice that my sister no longer has flour or egg any on her body and she is also dressed in loose clothing, the sort of clothing we would wear before we shifted. I also noticed that she was holding a pile of clothes in her hands.
"What do you want Avery?" I snap.
"We're going for a run, I wanted Melody to join us." Avery informs me, throwing the pile of clothes at me. "Melody, change into these."
I pass the clothes to Melody, who now has a small frown on her face.
"We'll be leaving in ten minutes, so hurry up." Avery says as she exits the room, closing the door behind her.
I glare at the spot Avery where had been standing for a few moments before turning around to face my mate. "You get changed in here, I need to have a shower." I tell her, grabbing some loose pants from my draw and then heading into the bathroom to have a shower. Preferably a cold one.
At least ten minutes later I exited to find Melody seated on the edge of my bed in the clothes Avery had given her. Instantly I could sense how worried Melody was.
I crouched down in front of her, grabbing hold of her hand within my own and bringing it to my mouth, placing a gentle kiss on the back of her hand. "What's wrong?"
"Will it hurt?" She mumbles. "Will shifting hurt?" She asks again, raising her voice slightly.
I nod my head. "At first it will hurt, but after that there will be no pain at all." I tell her honestly, rising to stand and tugging at Melody's hand to get her to stand as well.
"Let's go before Avery has our heads." I joke lightly, trying to ease Melody's worry.
I tighten my grip around her hand and lead her out the room, down the stairs and out the back door where Avery stands along with Holly, Chase and Hunter.
"Bout time." Avery sniggers, straightening up from where she had been leaning against a tree.
"Shut up." I snap.
Avery only pokes her tongue out at me.
"How old are you?" I growl, raising my eyebrow.
"Three."
"Will you two shut up? I'm eager for a run." Holly snaps at both of us, instantly causing my wolf to respond. I growled and Holly bowed her head forward. "Sorry Alpha" she quickly apologised.
I snorted, wrapping my arm around Melody's waist as I led her away from the group and deeper into the forest. I eventually stop her, turning to face her, cringing as I felt how nervous she was through the bond.
"It's going to be alright Melody, all you have to do is imagine yourself in wolf form." I tell her before grabbing her chin and pecking her lips, smirking as I felt her body viably relax.
I step back and turn away from her, trying to ignore the fact that I could hear her pulling her clothing off her body. My wolf growled suggestively and I silenced him with a growl of my own.
Then I heard it, a quiet whimper from behind me. What once was Melody's small figure was now replaced with a tall, slender white wolf with bright blue eyes. I admired her appearance, immediately agreeing with my wolf who growled quietly.
"Well done my little wolf." I say, brushing my fingers through her soft white pelt. Melody instantly leans into my touch and I couldn't help but smile as I heard her purring quietly.
After a few moments I pulled away, stepping back and slipping out of my pants. Almost laughed as I saw Melody's eyes widen before she quickly looked away.
Easily I shifted, feeling those natural shivers that ran through my body as I shifted. When I glanced back over at Melody I noticed she was watching me closely now as I approached her. My muzzle gently brushed against the side of her face and she responded, brushing her muzzle against my fur.
"Melody?" I test, trying to reach out to my mate through the bond.
Melody jumps, her head swinging to look over at me. Obviously she had heard my voice.
"It's alright Melody." I reassure her, gently nudging her side. "Since your my mate I can communicate to you like I would to the pack through the mind link, it is an efficient way to pass on messages." I explain.
"Let's go find the others." I say, leading her back the way we had previously came, now with our clothes in our mouth.
When we reach the others they have all shifted, there wolves standing proud and tall. I was quick to notice was that Melody's wolf was slightly taller then Avery's; she was definitely of alpha blood.
"Jason?" I hear Melody's voice in my mind. "Did it work?" She says, her voice brightening up.
"Yes, it did work my little wolf." I reply.
"Yes!" Melody cheers in my mind, only causing me to give a wolfish chuckle; earning me confused and weird glances from the others.
"Mind link with Melody." I explain to them simply and they all give a nod of their head in acknowledgement before we set off.
Instantly I take up my position, running at the front of the group. Melody sticks close my side, tripping every now and again she she dodged the bushes and trees that were in her path.
Chase is on my other side, the natural position of someone with his status. Chase and Hunter were both sons of Beta Michael, but Chase had been born first and in turn received the beta trait, he was too be the next beta after his father stepped down or if Chase overthrew him.
Hunter did have beta blood in his veins, but it wasn't as strong as his brothers. Though it was obviously clear Hunter had no intention of ever being beta, his attention had always been focused on finding his mate. Which he had succeeded over one year ago.
Hunter met Holly over one summer when her very small pack consisting of her family and a few friends visited the area, instantly he felt the strong need to protect her and it wasn't until her sixteenth birthday when she shifted they both found out they were mates. Holly left her pack shortly after and joined mine, has been with us ever since.
From behind I can hear two of them playing around, and when I glance over my shoulder I wasn't surprised to find that it was Holly and Hunter who were lunging towards each other. I rolled my eyes turning my attention back to running so I didn't end up crashing into a tree.
But from the corner of my eye I watched my mate, her tall and slender body keeping pace beside me. Her bright blue eyes narrowed as she observed her surroundings closely.
We continued travelling through the territory for another ten minutes when I finally realised my mate was now slowing down and panting quite heavily. I had to remind myself that she was only new to the werewolf world and her stamina wouldn't be as good as it was compared to ours.
I change our direction, heading in the direction of a place that Melody loved. The river.
As the sound of rushing water reached my ears I noticed Melody look up with surprise before glancing towards me almost expectantly. I only gave her a wolfish grin as I slowed down.
Emerging through the thicket of bushes I watched as Melody's blue eyes brightened up even more if possible, her pace slowing down till she stood beside me. Her fur brushing against mine and causing my wolf to purr quietly.
Hunter and Holly raced away from the group and towards the water, lunging and dodging each other's little attacks, nipping at one another.
Avery appeared at my other side, snorting. "Sometimes I think they're even more childish then you." She says through the mind link.
I look at her with a glare, causing her to wince and quickly walk away from me.
I roll my eyes, gently nudging Melody and leading her away and into the trees. I first shift, quickly untying my pants from around my ankle and slipping into them.
I then turn away from Melody, giving her time to shift back and change into her clothes. "You can turn around now." She says quietly.
When I turn to face her I instantly see that large smile spread across her lips and that only causes me to smile. Within two steps I now stand directly in front of her, my fingers gripping her sides as I pulled her into my chest and wrapped my arms around her, loving the feeling of my mate pressed up against me. My wolf vocalized his agreement with me by purring.
I leaned back slightly to meet her eyes, a large grin spread across my lips as I watched my mate. "How do you feel?" I asked, grabbing hold of her hand and entwining her fingers within my own.
"Free." She answers after a few moments of thinking.
"Free?" I question, tugging her along so we could meet back up with the others.
"Yeah, I guess it's my wolf's fault, she feels caged..." She trails off uncertainly. "I don't know how to explain it."
I laugh, squeezing her hand lightly. "It's alright, but we have to get you into training soon."
"Training?" She says, glancing up at me.
"Yes, training. We need to teach you how to fight." I answer. "Your stamina is pretty low as well."
"You definitely know how to compliment a women don't you?" Melody laughs dryly.
"I don't think it was meant to be a joke, more like a fact."
Melody frowns, glaring at me. "You're so mean to me." She whines jokingly.
I laughed and stopped walking, tugging Melody against me. She yelps at the sudden movement and I hear a loud gush of air escape her as she collides with my body. I lean down, my face centimetres away from hers. "I'm mean just for you." I tease, planting a kiss on her lips.
"We should get back to the others." I murmur against her lips.
Melody moans quietly against my lips, but responds none the less. Her arms quickly coming up to wrap around my neck, easily pulling my body against hers.
I deepen the kiss, gripping her waist and holding her against me. My wolf continues to send me lustful impulses which I ignored and pushed to the back of my mind.
That was when I could feel someone trying to contact me through the mind link, but their voice was unable to reach me as I had put up a mind block; not wanting this moment with my mate to be interrupted as it has been the last two times.
My wolf growls quietly and my body unintentionally shivers as I feel Melody's fingers begin to trail down my chest before moving onto my back, her finger tips causing tingles to spread across my body. It was a nice reaction, one that all wolves experienced with their mates. I knew Melody was feeling the same tingles as she would shiver with delight every few seconds.
As my tongue darted out to swipe across her bottom lip, a throbbing pain set in the back of my mind and I knew my pack mates were urgently trying to contact me. Reluctantly I pulled back slightly, taking in a breath of air before speaking. "Pack trying to contact me." I murmur to Melody before opening my mind link.
Instantly I am flooded with loud, worried and scared voices. My wolf responds to them with a growl, obviously worried for his pack. "Quiet down." I snap at all of them, they all fall silent within seconds. "Now please, one of you speak."
"Jason, were surrounded." My sister says firstly and Chase shortens the message with a single word which caused my blood to boil and for my wolf to see red.
"Rogues."

Cliffhanger! Well yeah, this is late, but I was procrastinating like a pro. But I also had a whole load of homework and assignments from school. Hate homework -.- also procrastinated with that...
I apologise if there are any mistakes, but I should hopefully go back over this at a later date and edit it. :)
