"Ember? Are you okay?" Kayla had me straddled against the bed. Her long white and blue hair was tickling my face. Kayla is pale, yet beautiful, she'd be sixteen tomorrow. Her blue eyes looked me over quickly.

"Yea I'm fine." I shoved her off, sitting up now I looked at the cold-hearted room. Black and red walls, a huddled mass of clothes laying in the corner, a skull by my head, and weapons in the closet. "Hmmmm it's dark in here."

"More like demonic." She teased turning the light on.

"Now, why would you say that?" I started twirling the skull around. Kayla made an 'oh-really' face. I placed it next to the countless others and began to leave the room.

"Come on." She trotted out of the room.

Kayla headed down stairs to the kitchen. I walked across the hall to the bathroom and got ready for my shower.

______

Kayla began cooking pancakes, as she did only on the day of our parents accident. The wonderful aroma wafted up to my nose as I was heading down the stairs. I rushed down to her and hugged her from behind. "You ok sis?"

A warm tear slid down her face her voice shaky "No..."

I turned the stove off and moved the pancakes. Kayla rushed into my arms, crying hard. I ran my hand threw her silky hair, calming her. "It's okay, I miss them to."

Kayla picked her head up, "It wasn't an accident ya' know that right?"

"Yes it was, it's not like someone killed them on purpose. They weren't important enough for that." I joked solemnly. "Let's eat." we sat down at the set table and put pancakes on our plates. Kayla ate quickly then ran off to school, it was Friday.

I watched her leave as I poured maple syrup and powdered sugar over my pancakes. Eating slowly, thinking about my parents and their last words to me. "Ember, we need to tell you something.."

________

"What Mom? What do you need to say?"

"In our room is a secret, to find it you'll need to know and believe we love you."

After they left I ran to their room and tore it apart looking for the secret. I found nothing. The next day they died, we were told it was a wreck, that's what I believed. That's when they say I've changed.

________

Looking back at my now empty plate, I sighed hating the memory. I did the dishes and cleaned the house. Passing by a mirror I paused, studying the girl inside of it. Her black and red hair, straight and neat, her bangs cut at an angle, red lips and tan skin were stunning, she looked skinny but something told you she was strong. The eyes, her eyes were cold, yet warm, a brown gold color but the left eye had a redder tint. There wasn't much those eyes hadn't seen. I looked away from my reflection.

Walking up the stairs again, I went to my parents room. It felt different, something was wrong. I closed my eyes and breathed in deeply. "Ember... there's someone in here.." my mind warned. Opening my eyes again I searched the room. "I know you're in here! Show yourself!" I demanded.

A lanky, red headed boy appeared, freckles dappled his face and his green eyes were filled with fear. "How-how ya' know I was here?" He tugged nervously at something in his blue jean pocket and his striped red shirt was hiding it.

I looked over him anxiously. "What are you?"

"What ya' mean?" sweat began to dapple his forehead.

"Earth Born or Star Child?" I snapped at him, reaching for his arm, smelling the gun powder.

"I'm human, what are you?" He backed away, barely avoiding my hand.

"I am what I am." I grabbed him this time, holding him a few inches off the ground. He pulled the gun out of his pocket and placed it against my temple.

        "I don't wanna do this."

"I don't want you in my dead parents' room!" I sounded tough.

His eyes fell to the ground. "I.. I'm sorry." He dropped the gun. The gun falls to the floor firing off a round. Rage and pain enter my eyes, fear in his. I threw him into my parents' back board hard. A faint whimper escaped his lips, then silence, no more movement.

The blood trickled down my leg, my thy stung, I hobbled over to him. Reaching a stealthy hand into his pocket, I pulled out an odd shaped trinket, wrapped in a red cloth. I stuffed it into my pocket. I looked in his other pocket. A driver's license, his name was Victor, he was seventeen, and lived a block away.

I picked Victor up and carried him awkwardly to my room and gently placed him on my bed. Sighing I looked him over then walked to the bathroom and sat down, preparing myself to remove the bullet. I cleaned up the blood hurriedly and removed the bullet, slowly I stitched the wound.

______

Heading back to the room, I found Victor staring at all the skulls I had collected. Some 'human' in his words , others animals, or random creatures of light and dark. He was holding a mouse's skull curiously. The tiny head resting in between his thumb and middle finger.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"N-n-nothing." He jumped and dropped the skull, turning to face me.

"Mhm." I sat next to him. "So, Earth Born, what's your name?" I smiled, already knowing.

"Uh... Alex?" His eyebrows twitched as he tried to hide the lie.

"That's funny Victor." I held up the driver's license.

"Oh! How did you? Never mind..."

"So, what did you want so bad that you'd kill for it?" I looked into his eyes.

"It's called the Secret, but I don't know how to work it. It's suppose to be worth millions. I thought no one was home, I'm so sorry." A simple crocodile tear ran down his face.

"It's okay." I took out the object wrapped in the silky red cloth, showing it to him. He nodded. Unfolding the cloth I found a pen shaped trinket made of cold stone. I held it in my hand and it began to burn slightly, starting to glow and change form. "Wow did it do this when you held it?" It changed into miniature versions of animals, every kind imaginable.

"Uh. No, it was just the stone pen when I had it." Then with a crackling and sizzle it vanished into my palm. "HEY! How did you?!"

"I don't know." I looked up at him.

     "WHAT THE HELL!" He screamed.

    "What?"

     "Your eyes!"

     "What about them?"

"They keep changing, like inhumanly!" He tossed me a mirror. My eyes shifted to cat eyes, to goat eyes to every living creatures eyes. I rubbed them and the shifting stopped.

"That's new" I laughed. Victor grabbed a bat from the closet, moving swiftly he hit Ember hard. She crumpled unconscious and he carried her away.

______

Blinking slowly, waking up, I looked around the room. "Ugh. My head." I try to reach up and touch it only to find my hands were chained. "What the Hell?" I was getting enraged.
