"Ember?! Ember?!" Kayla yelled, she had been crying and screaming for hours. "Ember?! Where are you?!" She rushed around the house again, looking for any clues. Her parent's room! She ran in, the window was open, blood on the floor, it was totally trashed. Kayla fell to the ground and cried. "I will find you!"

_______

"Hello?" Ember whispered. My hands and feet were beginning to ache. The pain over throwing all other feelings. Someone was approaching.

"Silence Monster." Victor said.

"Victor? What the hell! Why?" my rage was showing boldly.

"You're the Secret now, and my God they'll pay a better price for you. Your exotic, beautiful, and well different."

"So, why don't you keep me?" I sounded childish.

"You're no use to me. Besides you'll learn to love him. Or you'll have to." A doorbell rang. "Oh he's here." Victor left turning the lights off. I could hear the hushed voices and shuffling feet moving around up stairs. Wiggling and squirming I fought to get out of my captor's trap.

"It's useless We have nothing to get out of it with." my mind sighed.

"I must keep trying!" I answered it.

"No that's enough, we can wait for 'him' who will come and take us away. Then we run. Pretend to be dead, maybe we will be thrown out." I heard the thoughts and agreed. I positioned myself awkwardly and held my breathe. I felt my heart slow to almost a stop and waited.

They were coming down the steps now. "Birch, you're gonna love what I got you this time!" Victor sounded excited.

"What is it?" a gruff, uncaring voice answered.

"It's the.." he paused "...Secret!"

"The Secret?!" now the voice was over joyed.

"Yea, bro, you owe me a lot! She's feisty."

"SHE?!"

"A rare, beautiful, girl, eighteen or nineteen." The lights came on. I heard footsteps running to me. "What the?"

"DID YOU HIT HER?!" Birch screamed.

"No.. Yes... Not there though." He cowered.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! BOY!"

"I hit her with a bat, to knock her out but, I didn't do that."

"WHAT THE HELL?!" Birch was about to smack him.

"She was fine when I left. Not one cut or bruise, none like that anyway." Victor was far away.

A hand stroked my cheek softly. "Tis a shame." He checked for a pulse and couldn't find one. Gently Birch cut the ropes and lifted me into the air. "There's fifty grand on the table."

"That's not what we agreed."

"She isn't what we agreed."

______

I felt him put me in his car, and buckle me up carefully. Birch positioned me into a comfortable position. He got in and turned on soft classical music and drove smoothly. I moved slowly not wanting to call attention to my self. I peeked at the mirror, my reflection wasn't my own. Her face oozed blood and was so badly swollen it was a miracle she could see at all. No wonder they had flipped out.

"My dear, are you okay?" Birch spoke softly.

"I'm fine." I whimpered pathetically giving up the act.

"Your so badly hurt, did Victor do this?"

I shook my head and my real face appeared, clear, free, healthy. "No, my face did that to itself. I don't know how. It just did. Sorry."

His eyes widened. "Your a Star Child?" he sped up a little.

"Please. Birch. Slow down." whimpering still.

"What else can you do?" He sounded crazy.

"I DON'T KNOW!" I screamed. He was speeding and driving close to the mountain ledge. I was clinging to the seat for dear life. "STOP THE FREAKING CAR!"

"NOPE!" He swerved off the road, plummeting to the bottom six thousand feet below. He cracked the window open and threw all the rushing sound of the wind you could hear a girl singing.

"We're going over the edge tonight." Her voice rang, pausing and sensing the danger, "Dimmit not again." Slowly our car began to rise, it was put back on the road. A pale girl about seventeen with auburn hair, brown eyes, and an athletic build, stood in front of the car. "Now Mr. you keep yourself on the road. Give me a shout if you need me again, names Lexi." She looked at me. I mouthed 'Help Me'. She walked over to my door, "Are you alright ma'am?"

"Tell Kayla, the skies are falling over the mountain."

"If I see her." Lexi's eyes widened but she understood. She began jogging away and I barely saw her wings unfurl as she flew away.

"Well, Secret, I'll find out what you do." Birch smiled.

"I don't even know what I can do..." looking at him now, his brown hair covered his brown eyes slightly and there was a scar on his neck. I rolled back into slumber what else could I do? I was captured.

______

Walking alone, Kayla watched everything that moved. The shadows and falling leaves from high trees. "Who could've done this?" her voice trembled. She heard a jogger behind her. Kayla slowed, listening to the pitter patter of foot falls, it was slowing down as well. "Who are you?" Kayla spun around.

"The skies are falling over the mountain." She whispered and disappeared.

"No..." Kayla breathed shallowly. Her heart pounded as she started racing home. Once home Kayla pulled out a map of the town and taped it to her wall. She began placing tacks on the mountains, searching, hoping, praying.

Just then two knocks sprang from the door. Kayla ran to the front door and peeked outside. A tall man, black hair, blue eyes, wrapped in black leather, leaned against the brick wall. She opened the door. "Hey Sathe, what brings you here?"

"I heard about your sis. I'm here to help." He tried stepping in, his biker boots were covered with mud.

"How? We are just normal Earth Borns."

"LIES!" Sathe's voice boomed through the house. "The fact that you say Earth Born and not human, screams Star Child."

Kayla looked him over. "How could such an ass be her best friend?"

"Maybe I'm just good for sleepovers." A dark chuckle left his lips. "Not really, I haven't given your sister that kind of love, yet, trust me you'd hear it." He walked to Ember's room.

"You're disgusting!" Kayla shouted after him.
