Ember felt a slight tug on the back of her shirt and a small voice whispered a tiny complaint, "I'm tired, Ember." I looked down at the child, his worn face looked so sleepy the lights had faded from his eyes. I looked at the rest of the horde, they were tired as well we had walked a long way, we where probably half way down the mountain at least one hundred miles away from Birch's prison, and maybe forty feet under ground. I reached down and picked the child up, I hugged him close to me.

"What's your name?"  I whispered quietly as I kept walking, fatigue was starting to reach my limbs.

"I don't remember what my real name is." He sighed sadly. "But Birch would call me Jay, Lil Jay." Lil Jay rested his head on my shoulder.

"Do you think we should take a rest, Lil Jay?" I asked smoothing his hair down.

"Yes ma'am." He yawned as I set him down. I stopped, sitting down, my eyes wondering over the group. Seeing him yawn set off the contagious sleeping spell in the room. The others began to yawn and rest as well. A couple of the boys started running around quietly and were glowing softly, huge smiles on their sweaty faces. They were as free as stallions and they knew it, they were all free now. I smiled for the first time in awhile, a real smile a dimple appeared on my cheek.

"Lil Jay? Come lay on my arm." I shifted into a polar bear, huge, white fluff covered my body. I wrapped a protective arm around the sleeping Jay who was now comfortably cradled in my fur. Soon Bella had come to find me, she cuddled up to me as well, falling asleep. I couldn't help but to think of Kayla. What was she doing? How was she? Did Lexi ever find her? My mind began to race as my eyes drooped. Sleep had even found me.

_______

"EMBER!" Kayla screamed loudly, shaking violently. She watched in horror as blood splatter all over her. Dragons tore at Ember's flesh tearing small chunks of her wriggling body off. Only to torture her before she died, her screams echoing in Kayla's head. How was she supposed to help? She didn't know how she could. "ENOUGH!" She shouted at the dragons glaring at them. The silvery dragon, probably the same size of a Great Dane, had just bit a part of a juicy thy off. Kayla started to cringe. It's scales started to fall to the ground. "I SAID ENOUGH!" the silvery dragon went up in flames and was reduced to ashes, barely even that.

The other two dragons looked at her, they weren't much bigger than Dalmatians, slowly they went back to biting at Ember's mangled body. "STOP IT!" She shouted and they melted into puddles. Kayla ran to Ember, she picked her up and held her close. "Please be okay, Sis." Kayla ran her fingers over her sister's body, as she did the body began to heal. Ember sat up once she was completely healed.

"You. Useless child! You never do anything right!." Ember swung at her.

"Kayla! Kayla, sweetie wake up!" Torelyn held Kayla close to her. "It was only a nightmare, it's okay. I got you. You're safe. I won't let you get hurt anymore."

Ember awoke as the sun began to rise, she started to think of her friends. She missed them. Ember walked around the group of Star Children carefully, not wanting to disturb anyone. She then started walking ahead scouting the way. She felt along the cold, damp, rugged walls of the cave. When she started to see a half finished painting of a forest, She could see the sun rising over the trees and smell the sweet scents of the evergreen. Ember marveled at the strange beauty it posed, totally oblivious to the sound of swift footsteps coming at her.

He collided into me, causing me to fall on my back and him on top. He looked me over quickly and sweat dappled his brow unsure of what to do, his hesitant lips grazed mine for just a moment before he got up. Nervously he extended out his hand, I reach out and took it kind of wary. "I'm sorry, it's just I haven't seen another human in two months, I'm Greg Jones."

I stared at him in disbelief, thinking that surely he was the one who had created the living picture, which if that was true he was a rare breed of Star Child. "It's fine, ummm did you paint this?" I stared at the almost finished painting again.

He glanced at it briefly, "That horrible piece of shit?" He sighed, "Yea, unfortunately." He swiped at one of  his deep brown eyes. They sparkled with hope and joy, he started thinking, still holding me. I pull away gently.

"Do you know how to get out of here?" my voice soft and still.

"If I did do you think I would be trapped in here? Painting ugly pictures on the walls?" His face turned away from me as he let me go.

"You're welcome to join us, to find away out.."

"US?! There is more of you?!"

_______

Sathe paced back and forth, looking grief stricken. His eyes growing black rings around them. "Oh Ember... It would have to be your family. It just had to be didn't it." A tear slid down his cheek.

"What are you doing? You aren't supposed to cry. Assassins weren't meant to shed tears for those they killed." One voice sneered angrily in his head.

"How could you have done this to her? Betray her in such away. I thought you loved her. you shouldn't have wronged her all those years ago. It's a miracle she hasn't found out yet." Another softer, depressed voice cried out.

Sathe wiped his tear, his thoughts making it harder to focus on Ember. "I have to end this once and for all!" He shouted loudly, his voice echoing off the mountain.

_______

Ember had taken Greg back to the horde. They were moving again, everyone well rested and chattering amongst them selves as they walked. Greg stared at the glowing boys, "What happened to them? Radio activity?" He whispered.

"No, they were born that way, just as I was born like this." Unforgiven purred. It wasn't hard to tell she had a crush on him. Her restored tail would brush against him occasionally, testing him. At first Greg jumped away from her but as they talked he seemed to loosen up.

I smiled at the two. The blue haired boy came running, "EMBER! EMBER!" he shouted loudly hushing when he got closer, "We should be able to go above ground now...oh and ummm Leo left... Do you think?.. No, he wouldn't... would he?"

"No.. I don't think he would." my heart sank. "Umm I guess go ahead and take us up. How close to the bottom are we?" I turned away from him.

"Really close, maybe one more day."
