Ember awoke in a dark room on a hard bed, the walls were smoothed to perfection except the side with the chains, her body ached. I tried turning the door knob only to find it locked and then vanish into thin air, there was no escape.

"Hello?" I felt the walls, bright beaming lights blinded me as they flickered on. The only color in this room was a glossy black.

"Well hello Secret!" Birch's voice came from the ceiling but there was tapping on one of the walls. I went to it and glared at the unseen idiot it was concealing.

"Birch. What do you want from me?" A razor sharp edge in my voice, I might have been able to cut him with it had we not been separated by this wall.

"I want to know your powers." He mashed a button and the chamber began to fill with water.

"WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO?! KILL ME?"

"ADAPT!" Was my answer.

I fell to the ground shaking with anger and frustration, searching for away out, or something to stop the water. It was rising quickly, in the small room, four feet and there would be no air. I felt as if the walls were crushing me in, the pressure began to build. I got my last breath of air and dove back under. I found where it was entering but what would I plug it with? I was losing consciousness, If only I were a fish! My body began to tingle, I felt as if I were shrinking, then I could breathe again, air surged through my being. The room felt bigger, and I could move freely. Could this be a trick? There was excited tapping on the viewing window, I swam to it.

"YOU'RE A SHAPE SHIFTER!" Birch screamed,

"Huh?" I tried to say but only bubbles escaped my lips. That's when I saw the reflection. A fiery red beta. That was the only thing living in this room. That beta was me. I shifted again, into a eel, then back again. It was so easy! Why couldn't I do this before.?

"You're magnificent!" The water began to drain. I felt my body grow back into Earth Born form, my bones crawling and stretching back into place. I saw my limbs regrow and I was completely dry.

"YOU TRIED TO KILL ME! AGAIN!" I screamed and hit the wall with all my rage. A quiet little breaking sound answered me.

"Calm down Secret." Birch sounded like he might of just peed his pants.

"My name isn't 'Secret'! It's Ember!" I pounded the wall again, there was now a visible crack.

"Ember stop!"

"NO! I'm not some pet you can cage and make me do tricks for you! I'm not your property! I will not be held captive ANYMORE! LET ME OUT!" I could now make Birch's outline out, he was running away. The chamber filled with a heavy sedative gas. My eyes drooped sleepily, I was calming down and went to sleep.

I woke to a gentle shaking, in a new room. A tall blonde, blue eyed boy sat next to me. "Hey. I'm human, I won't hurt you. The names Leonardo." His voice was calm and soothing. He gave a crooked smile. I stared back at him. He reached a hand out to touch me and I flinched. "You are beautiful." I turned away blushing slightly, I walked to a corner and sat down hiding my face, waiting for him to leave.

Sighing he got up and left. I walked to the tray of food he had left, breakfast. How could I trust these Earth Borns? All they have done is hurt me and try and kill me. What makes Leonardo different? What if he poisoned the food? Well I guess Birch would be mad if I died. I studied the plate of meats. I was biting into a piece of well cooked steak when Leonardo walked in. "Hey Birch said we could umm... go on a walk if you'd like.. but you'd have to turn into a dog, please."

I stand up and start walking to him, I begin shifting in a dog. He puts a collar around my golden furry neck, " a golden retriever, how cute." We start heading out the door when a bag goes over my head. I can feel us going up and down stairs, hear quiet words being exchanged, and feel us turn all over the place. Finally I feel cool grass on my paws, the bag comes off my head. "Sorry bout that." Leonardo took the collar off and I changed back. We continue walking to the edge of the property where I am greeted with a heavy scent of honeysuckle, dancing in the wind. Small flowers beaming, radiantly, in the sun's love for them. Tall lilac bushes swayed steadily over head. A fountain was eloquently placed in the middle with four small creature statues placed around it. Butterflies jumped from flower to flower, birds chirped happy songs, everything felt peaceful here.

"Where are we?" I whispered reverently.

"We are in the Garden of Peace."
