Titles
This has always annoyed me.
#1 Really long title
Don’t have a title that gives half the story away! There’s no point! It’s annoying, okay? And nobody’s going to read if half the story is already told to them in the title.
#2 Using really big words in a title
So you use big words in a title, with hope that somebody is going to think you’re a genius. No, no their not. They’re just going to click off of your story, with a headache. They don’t know what that word means, and it’s more than likely that you don’t either.
#3 Short, Smart, Simple Titles
Short titles are more noticeable. What I love about short titles is that they are smart. That one word (or two) links in with the story. For example: “Switched” by Amanda Hocking is a great title. It’s about a girl who is “Switched”. Get it? Huh? It’s better than: I was taken from my real parents and was gave to another set of people but I’m not really their child and now I’m on a quest to find my real parents (if their even still alive).
Hopefully, you get my point.
#4 Spell Correctly
If you spell a word wrong in your title (or use the wrong ‘your’ ‘you’re’ ‘their’ ‘there’ etc) it’s likely that everybody is going to scroll right past it.
SO, keep your title, short and snappy (and give it some link to the story!) and you'll be good to go!
