I threw another rock at the opposite wall. I bounced off the concrete and made the same clinging sound as the other thirty or so I had thrown. I had cried myself to sleep a few nights ago after the confrontation with Liam.

He wanted to kill me! I cowered at every slam of the door, every sound of padding footsteps upstairs; terrified he was coming to do as he said.

But it wasn’t ever him. It was Harry. Harry. I hadn’t seen him since the confrontation. Since I had yelled at him to leave me alone. I could still see the sad look in his eyes whenever I closed my own.

What happened t him? Just earlier this year we had been laughing and talking and just been the closest of mates. But now he was different. And not just in the way that he was a shooter, a potential killer. There is a hardness in his green eyes now that never used to be there before. And he is sharper now, more harsh. Where was the Harry I knew?

The thought of my lost friend brought the feeling of tears to my eyes. But no matter how much I wanted to cry I couldn’t. I had dried up. All the tears I had had been cried out in the past few days.

I sighed and threw another stone against the wall. I don’t know why I was sitting on the floor when there was a perfectly good bed. I guess I didn’t want Harry to think I was getting comfortable. That I was giving into him. Because I still wanted to go home, friend or not, I didn’t want to stay here.

It was at that moment that I heard a sound I hadn’t heard in days. The sound of the basement door creaking met my ears and made me perk up. Harry. I thought.

Tentative footsteps descended the stairs and I stood up.

Harry came off the stairs and walked a few steps towards me. I couldn’t help it but I took a few back. His brow furrowed and he crossed his arms over his chest, staying where he was.

“Louis,” He said. His voice wasn’t warm but it wasn’t cold either. It was hard with an undertone of something soft. If that even made any sense.

“Harry,” I replied. I gathered the courage to look into his eyes. The green orbs were trained on me, following my every movement.

“You look like you haven’t slept in days,” Harry commented. It was true. I had slept maybe a total of two hours in the past couple days. The crying and the fright, keeping me awake all hours of the day except for when the headache as a result of crying had driven me to close my eyes.

“Well, yeah, not really,” I muttered. I looked away from Harry. I couldn’t bear to look into his eyes. They were so hard and distant. He had changed. He had kidnaped me for fuck’s sake! “You haven’t come down in a while.”
