Chapter Twelve
Bella's POV
One Week Later
I thought about asking Edward about how someone would become a vampire, but I decided against it because he didn't want me to become like him. So I decided I was going to ask Alice, but I would have to get her out of hearing range from Edward's mind reading. I didn't know how this conversation with her would go or even if she would tell me, I just hoped she would tell me. I was glad Edward couldn't read my mind, so he wouldn't know what I was planning. He was completely clueless what I was going to ask his sister, being a mental shield had some advantages.
We left the kitchen a few minutes later and headed up the stairs to get some vampire venom from Carlisle's office, then I headed into the living room, after I placed five jars of vampire venom in the fridge I sat on Edward's lap and placed a kiss on the crook of his neck, which made him moan softly and caused his siblings to laugh at him. Emmett thought, “It doesn't take much for Bella to get you excited, Eddie boy.” Edward and I growled out at him, “Shut up, Emmett.”
After a few minutes of silence I turned to Alice and asked, “Can I talk to you in private, Alice?” She replied, “Sure, Bella, I'll meet you outside in a few seconds.” I watched her as she headed out of the room and I turned to Edward and said, “I need to speak with Alice for awhile, just to talk about somethings.” He replied, “Okay Bella, I'll be waiting for you to come back, take all the time you need to talk with the little pixie.” I said with a smile, “Thank you, Edward. I'll be back as soon as I can.” I got off of his lap and headed outside, I glance at Alice and uttered under my breath, “Follow me, I want to talk to you were we would be out of hearing range from everyone.” Alice nodded her head in understanding and I took off running to the other side of the Island, I went slower than usual so Alice could keep up with me.
I came to a stop, when we were about fifteen miles away from the house. Alice asked, “What do you want to talk to me about, Bella?” I responded, “I was wondering if you could tell me about how someone becomes a...vampire.” Alice asked, “Why didn't you ask, Edward?” I replied, “I didn't ask him because of the way he acted, when I told him I wanted to become like him.” Alice said with a sigh, “I'll tell you Bella, but I'm not going to be the one to change you.” I responded, “I know that Alice, I actually wanted Edward to be the one to change me, since he's my mate. I just wanted to know how the change happens.” Alice began saying, “Well, a person has to be bitten and the venom makes its way through the blood stream. The transition normally takes about three days, I guess it just depends on the human. The change from human to vampire is extremely painful, even worse than child birth. Your heart rate will speed up toward the end and pain is the worst at this point, then your heart will stop beating all together.”
There was silence between us for a few minutes before I asked, “Can you tell me how your transition went, if don't mind me asking?” Alice replied, “I don't mind, Bella. I don't remember much about my human life, Carlisle thinks something traumatic happened to me to prevent me from remembering my past life. I remember my transition into a vampire all too well, mostly because of the pain I felt as the venom spread throughout my whole body. I was only bitten once, so I knew I wasn't dieing, but I don't know the reason why. I woke up in a dungeon about three days later, my throat was burning insane with thirst. I killed several humans, before my throat stopped burning.” I asked her, “Do you know what happened to your creator?” Alice replied, “No, I don't even remember what he or she even looks like.” I promised Alice, “If I happen to ever come across someone that knows something about your past, I will force them to tell me.” Then I asked, “What was your maiden name?” She replied, “Alice Branden.” We fell into complete silence once again, we just listened to the wildlife around us.
