Behind A Horses Eyes

-Cassia's POV-

'And there will be one hundred and forty people but that's if Mia and her new husband comes...' Jess explains. I sit on the sofa next to mum, trying to take it all in.

Since I agreed to be bridesmaid I've been too busy. Nicki is looking after my horse for me and I haven't been to the yard for two weeks now. The day after I agreed Jess and Keiran came over. Now Jess has come again and Keiran and dad have gone out to some pub. Jess is explaining the guest list to us. I glance at Mum who looks very confused.

'Sorry, you've lost me. Who is Mia again?' she asks. Jess sighs. She's trying to tell us about one hundred and forty people and we've only done fifty three so far.

'Mia Donnoven? She's the one who is coming with Shannon. Shannon O'Neill, my best friend from primary school. Mia and Shannon were my best friends and I went to school with them. When we went to collage Shannon moved to Ireland and Mia and I made the rest of the journey together. But she always kept in touch with Shannon. You understand, don't you, Cassia?' they both look at me.

'Kind of. So who is this husband?' Jess takes out her phone and shows me a photo of a woman and a man.

'This woman is Mia. The man is Alex, her husband. So if they come it will be one hundred and forty people otherwise it will be one hundred and thirty nine people at my wedding. You see, Alex's mum has breast cancer so he may not come. He is so worried about his mum and I don't wanna stress him out. Recently Mia told me she won't come if he doesn't so that's pretty selfish as she's supposed to be taking Shannon too. So that would be three people off my list if Alex doesn't come. So that will be one hundred and thirty seven. Then we have Sandy, my aunt. She is gonna come for the set up. Nice of her, don't you think? One problem though, Keiran has a problem with her husband so if he decides not to invite him that will be another person crossed off my list. And I reckon Sandy won't come if her husband isnt invited so there is roughly one hundred and thirty five people coming to my wedding,' she sighs. I look at mum.

Nope, I think we're just as confused as each other. I go over it in my head.

'So Mia won't come if Alex won't so that crosses them off. That means Shannon can't come so that crosses her off. Then your Aunt Sandy won't come if her husband won't so that crosses them off.' Mum says, sipping her tea.

'They might come! Alex might still come! And even if Keiran doesn't invite Sandy's husband then I will. So then that's one hundred and thirty seven, yes?' she looked like she wanted it so badly that we agreed.

How much family does she have? We soon hear the door open and dad and Keiran is back. They come into the room with us and start chatting to us.

'So Keiran baby, are you gonna invite my auntie Sandy?' she pulls puppy dog eyes. Keiran smiles back and says yes then they share a kiss. I make sick noises and mum glares at me before sending me upstairs. This is all I can think about... The stupid wedding.

For once I'm glad that Nicki is texting me. I never thought I would say that. I check the text.

Hey, I hope ur having a good day! Ur horse is ok so don't worry about her and shes getting along with Elephant x

Aww, Nicki is so nice. I quickly text her back and throw my phone on my bed. Outside the window a bird is flying past. I wish I was a bird, just soaring through the sky. But then I think of hunters trying to shoot poor birds down and make them into dinner. Animal cruelty is just..... Cruelty. Maybe I'm better of becoming a vegetarian...
