"Where were you." Steven asks immediately as I walk through the door. A sickly feeling rose in my stomach.
"I-I"
"Went out with Niall?" he holds up my phone I had left laying on the coffee table. "Yeah, I'm aware."
He stalks his way to me and I back up against the wall.
"Please, no." I beg, shutting my eyes.
I squeeze them shut tighter as I feel his light grip on my chin.
" Look at me sweetie," he chuckles "I'm not mad."
I open my eyes, looking into his tan ones.
"Come sit, we need to talk." He took my hand and led me to the dining room. On the table where Chinese takeout boxes he must have picked up on the way home.
"So where did you and Niall go?" he slid me a fork and food container but I didn't touch them, I knew he really didn't want me to eat them. And I really didn't feel like paying for it if I did.
" Just hung out for a bit, had nothing better to do."
"Ah, I see. Come to any decision on me?" he asked.
"N-no." the air seemed to get stuffier as he stared me down.
"And why the hell not?" he growled.
"I-"
"WHAT?" he screamed before I could finish. "What shit are you going to give me! I've wasted too fucking long on you! How long is it going to take for you to realize that no one else will put up with your bitch ass! Your answer is yes, final. " he rose from his chair and grabbed a knife.
"Don't you think for a fucking minute I won't jam this through your chest!"
Horror rose within me. I had to get away. How? Where? He was between me and my only exit.
"Steven," I pleaded "I'm not going to say yes if you continue acting like this. What happened to who you were? Before all of this you were sweet, and nice. Can things not change?"
I could visually see his temper lowering. This was a step in the right direction. He hadn't hit me.
I smiled at him and turned to clean up the table.
"I'm sorry." he plainly stated, taking his seat again. " what if I agree to take an anger management course? Will that make your decision any better?"
I nodded my head.
"That sounds like a good decision"
After everything was cleared we lounged back on the couch, looking at sites on the laptop for anger management.
"This one sounds real nice. " He clicked on the picture and read further. "They have an indoor pool and boxing ring for the more aggressive people."
"Sounds good" I yawn. "So we will delay the decision till you get out?"
"No, don't be silly, this ones only a little while away so I can come home nightly."
"Oh, I see."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning Steven left to check himself into the clinic.
Two more days. Hopefully any changes I saw in him were true, I didn't want to get sucked into a lie. Except for the fact that our whole relationship was a lie.
I was expecting Niall any minute. My 'Throw Niall off the Trail' plan was still in action, and I had no clue how I was going to be convincing.
The doorbell rang and I opened the door to a rather giddy Niall.
"Mornin'!" he said as he glided through the door. "Ever tried a Red-Bull? I just have. You should!" he fired off sentences before I could even think of an answer.
"Maybe you should lay off the energy." I sighed
We settled onto the couch and watched a movie that was playing. The silence was completely awkward since we didn't know a lot about one another, it's not like we had known each other our whole lives.
"So..." I started as the credits started playing.
"What's on your mind?
"Just wondering why you are still here. I mean, your in a band and everything, don't you have gigs?"
"Yeah, we have a break now. The boys are actually flying in soon, since our next concert is here."
I nodded my head in understanding.
"Okay I can't stand it." he said getting up.
"What? Are you leaving?"
"No! I meant I can't stand the awkwardness. Let's play a game." he said sitting in the floor.
I followed his lead and sat beside him.
"Okay, how about truth or dare?" I asked.
"Fine, but instead of dare, we have to share a secret. Are you game?"
"Yepp."
"Okay, I'll go first." He slyly smiled. "I choose, truth."
"Why did you say that yesterday, about Steven hurting me." I had no trouble coming up with a question.
"Well, um, I just don't set well when there may be a possibility of someone hurting. I heard what he said to you at lunch the other day. You didn't deserve that."
I blushed and looked down. Great, he did have evidence against Steven, now my work was going to be harder.
"Okay, I choose dare." I said.
"Share a secret." He whispered.
