Mitch's POV
"Is it normal to be this nervous for prom?" I asked Scott as I glanced at myself and fixed my tie. Scott looked at me surprised."You have been to prom before right?" I didn't answer. I just began to fix and straighten my shirt. Scott looked at me wide eyed. "You've never even stepped foot into one prom for at least a millisecond?" Scotts voice began to rise just as quickly as his surprise. I rolled my eyes.
"Sure girls liked me. I just never really knew if I was close enough to a girl to ask her. So I just sat in my room and sulked while all of my 'friends' had the time of their lives," I said with a sigh, "is it really that complicated?" Scott chuckled.
"And who knows what can happen tonight, hopefully no one will spike the punch so you can get dirty with yet another girl and fuck up again..." I hit Scotts arm with all of my energy. He whimpered under the hit.
"Scott seriously, Kirstie is the last person I want heart broken tonight okay?" I said with an upset look Scott nodded apologetically.
"Well if Kirstie's the last person, then who's the first?" Scott said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes.
"Scott please stay away from the punch tonight, just in case it is spiked. Because with or without alcohol in your system, you're the most annoying person in the entire world." Scott chuckled.
"That's what best friends are for," Scott said nudging my shoulder lightly. We smiled at each other just as a limo appeared. I looked at him excited and he smiled wide."Even though we aren't the most richest people in the world, we might as well ride to prom in style with our lovely dates," I laughed and nodded. I then hopped into the limo and then I saw her. She looked stunning.
"Wow I'm surprised Mitch," Kirstie said blushing, "usually when I see you, you won't shut up," I smiled and kissed her, putting my hands on her waist.
"Hey!" Scott interrupted, "save it for later," we both looked at each other and giggled.
"You're no fun Scott," Kirstie said with a pout.
"Yeah you're a buzzkill," I said pouting as well. Scott rolled his eyes and smiled at our childishness.
"Whatever. I just want to make sure you guys keep things at least PG rated thank you very much," we all laughed. I looked out the window for a second and all I saw was my own reflection. I had changed. No doubt about that. I looked, cleaner, more alive. I looked more cheerful. Everything about me was refreshed, especially since my shouting at my dad. I just needed to let my emotions loose. And boy, did I let them loose.
"Mitch we're here," Kirstie said grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the limo. We walked into the school hand in hand. I had absolutely no intentions of letting go of it anytime soon. As we entered the front entrance I began to hear the base of a song blasting through the walls of the school. I thought prom would be much more lovey dovey then this loud base. I chuckled to myself as we entered through the doorway. The music hit my ears like a freight train. I was ready to party, hell I was ready for anything now. I held my arm out for Kirstie to hold onto. She chuckled and gladly took it. We walked and found Tori and Scott.
"Hey Tori," Kirstie said hugging her, "you enjoying prom?" Tori chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm lucky I found Scott just in time," she said nudging him, " I don't have a date so I feel lonely," she pouted. You don't have to have a date for prom? That's a thing? Wow I literally don't have a life at all.
"I don't have a date either," Scott said amused. He then blushed and looked away but Tori was completely clueless to the whole situation.
"You two should be each other's dates then," I suggested, "I mean not as a couple, aviously, but you know as friends?" I said with a smile. They both looked at each other, smiled, and nodded.
"Scori is real?" Kirstie said with a smirk. I chuckled and Scott and Tori stood there shocked. "Don't worry I didn't mean it," Kirstie assured making Tori and Scott sigh in relief.
"Ok students, everyone gather around," Ms. Hart said through the microphone, "it's time to announce the king and queen of this years prom," she was then handed an envelope. At our school we do vote. But we put a name on a slip of paper and put it into two boxes. The girls box, and the boys box. I would be dreaming if I actually won.
"This years results were extremely surprising and I'm glad that we are not aiming for popular kids anymore," I furrowed my eyes rows confused. "The runners up for the king are: Troye Sivan, Jeremy Lewis," everyone of course cheered for Jeremy, "and Mitch Grassi." I looked at the stage. Ok this is definitely a dream. I pinched myself hard. Never mind. I walked up to the stage and stood next to Jeremy. He looked at Troye, whispered something then looked at me.
"What's so funny?" I whisper spat.
"This must be a joke," he laughed, "I mean look at you, you're different," I shrugged and smirked.
"Maybe being different is what people like now. Maybe people are looking for someone who stands out in a crowd. Who cares if this is a joke? If I lose at least I get front row seats to you winning," Jeremy and Troye looked at me speechless. Yeah that's right, I just stood up to you.
"And the runners up for the queen are: Genevieve Lamb, Esther Kaplan," I cheered very loudly when Esther's name was called, "and Kirstin Maldonado," I smiled widely. She got up on the stage and hugged Esther. I could tell that she was lightly happy crying and I knew it was a miracle for the both of us. She looked at me and I smiled and winked at her. She smiled widely and wiped her tears.
"And your 2016 king is," Ms. Hart said very slowly, "Mitch Grassi," I smiled widely when I heard my name and looked gleamed as a crown was placed on my head. I stood next to Ms. Hart and hugged her happily. I then stood beside her and patiently waited. In the corner of my eye I could see Jeremy holding back his anger, but I didn't care.
"And your 2016 queen is," Ms. Hart said slowly again. Please be Kirstie, please, "Kirstin Maldonado," I smiled and looked at my beautiful girlfriend who covered her mouth in shock. I watched as they placed a crown above her head. She looks perfect. She walked beside me and I grabbed onto her hand. "Here are your king and queens ladies and gentlemen," everybody cheered loudly (except for Jeremy.) I smiled at Kirstie and kissed her. I cupped her face and enjoyed the moment given to me. When we let go I hugged her tightly.
"I love you very much," she whispered in my ear making me smile.
"I love you more than you could ever imagine," I answered grabbing her hand and leading her to the dance floor, "now let's continue this cliché night by dancing together," she giggled and curtsied.
"It would be my pleasure Mr. Grassi," I grabbed onto her waist and she wrapped her arms around my neck.
"You know, I've never been to prom before," I said looking into her eyes. She looked at me shocked and smiled.
"And I'm guessing you've had the best night of your life," she said with a smirk. I nodded and out my forehead on hers.
"You know me so well," I then kissed her again and smiled when we let go. Then Jeremy decided to push us apart, great.
"This isn't over Grassi," he started, "I always win over everything. If you think you can take my girl-" I cut him off.
"She's not your girl anymore Lewis, she's mine. And she loves me," I stated proudly, "also I didn't do anything to go against you. Those votes weren't costed by me at all. I get it if you're jealous, but you need to calm down before you start WWIII," I said pushing him off. He scoffed.
"Whatever Mitch, just watch your back," I rolled my eyes and quickly watched Jeremy go before wrapping my arms around Kirstie again.
"Boys are so weird," Kirstie said with a smile, "I don't get them," I chuckled.
"Trust me," I started, "we don't even get ourselves," she chuckled and kissed my cheek. Best night ever.
