Adam POV
"Nice car." Chessa said as I led her to the car I had won from the bet. And now I was about to win $1500, and probably lose Chessa in the process. The thought really hurt me. As we drove, Chessa took my hand and kissed it. I would miss her holding my hand like that. It was nice to have a security, and that's what she was. I messed this up on my own. But I guess I should cherish the last moments I had with her. Either way, Leigh was going to ruin this. She'd obviously sent the video to her phone.
When we got to the dance, it looked like every other high school dance. Sweaty and gross. Chessa took my hand and led me to the floor. I wasn't a dancer, but I danced with her anyway. "You're good at this" she said smiling, I laughed knowing it was a lie. After dancing to a few songs, we found a table and sat. We were with Alex and his date some girl named Destiny. Then Beverly came around and asked us for our ballots for Homecoming Court.
"You look really nice, Chessa." Bever said. Chessa smiled.
"Thanks, Bev. You too." And with that Beverly walked away. I rolled my eyes and Chessa smiled at me. I smiled back. "I'm gonna get something to drink. You want something?" I asked her, she shook her head, so I got up and walked to get something. When I got to the table, there Leigh was.
"Made a decision yet?"
"Yea."
"What?"
"You can go to hell." I walked away. I sat back down with Chessa and then the song "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" by Demi Lovato started playing, and Chessa tugged on my arm. I turned to her and she stood, so I stood up with her and she led me to the dance floor.
I placed me hand in her and placed my hand on her small waist.
"I'm having fun." She said smiling at me.
"Even at the boring, totally lame school Homecoming." She laughed.
"Yes. Anywhere with you is fun."
"Ooh, and a corny line." We laughed again. Then she looked up at me.
"I really mean it though." She closed the gap between us with both my arm around her waist and her arm around my neck. She rested her head on my shoulder. "I love you Adam." I pulled away and looked at her smiling face. Then there was a voice coming through the speakers.
"It's time to announce our Homecoming Court." It was Kate speaking. Chessa squeezed my hand and I turned to her. She waved me to come closer so I did. She whispered in my ear.
"We were on the ballot y'know." I nodded
"Is it totally high school and stupid that I voted for us?" I laughed and she did too. As the names were being called I got more and more anxious. I didn't want us to win. I knew Leigh had something up her sleeve. I would glance at Chessa out of the corner of my eye and I could see her smile. And when I heard our names called I saw her smile change to an exact replica of the letter 'o'. She was so shocked. I pulled her up and as everyone clapped we walked to the stage. My pulse was racing. I had no idea what was going to happen. Beverly placed the crown on my head, and Kate placed the crown on Chessa's head. Then Kate came into contact with the mic once again.
"Your 2013 St. Paul's Homecoming King and Queen." Everyone kept clapping, and then everything changed when I -- and everyone else in that gym -- heard the sounds. It was coming out of the speakers, and as I heard the moans and wails, I knew exactly what it was. Then Chessa did as well, as the sound of my name came out of the speakers, it was her voice. I turned to her and she turned to me, even more shocked than when she heard her our names called all of two minutes ago. Then there were kissing sounds and then her name came through the speakers, in my voice.
