It's been a month since Nathan and I kissed. A month since the conversation at the café. A month since everything was normal. The most interaction we've had is when we're both leaving for work or when we've gotten home from work. It's actually sad. I miss having him to talk to and to hang out with. All I do is work.
"Ellie?" A voice from behind the divider says.
"Yes?" I answer. Connor peeks his head around the divider, a smile wide on his lips.
"How's it coming?" He asks looking at my computer screen.
"It's coming." I say, hesitantly.
"I can see that." He laughs. "Anyway, I was thinking maybe after work you'd like to come to dinner with me?" My heart flies to my chest, dinner with Connor? He is attractive, that much is obvious, but I had never really thought about him in any other way than my co-worker.
"Right after work?" I ask, buying myself some time.
"Yes, I was thinking we could just leave here and go, I've been craving this Greek restaurant all day." He finishes with a subtle smile.
"I don't know.." I say, hesitantly, a certain person in the back of my mind.
"They have amazing food."
I bite my lip, I guess a little Greek food wouldn't hurt, besides, Connor is good company. "Alright, I suppose I'll come." A lips slip into a smile.
"Great. Trust me you won't regret it." With that he disappears behind the divider once again.
It takes a moment for my heart to settle back into its normal pace and my cheeks to return to their original color. I smooth down my favorite blue dress fate had me wear this morning and cross my legs.
.
.
The end of the day finds me faster than expected. Before I know it, Connor is standing in front of me offering his arm for me to take.
"Thank you for coming with me. I've been having this intense craving for Greek food all day." He says as we step into the elevator.
"Of course." I smile, squeezing his arm slightly. He returns the smile and the elevator opens to the ground floor.
The drive to the restaurant is short enough to where the conversation is kept casual. As I begin to open the door, Connor appears and opens it for me. Such a gentleman. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." He smiles, revealing his white teeth.
The restaurant is a cozy one, with greenery wrapped around the walls and ceiling. "This is so cute! How have I never been here before?" I say more to myself, but out loud.
Connor stuffs his hands into his pockets, and leans back slightly, "It's one of my favorites."
The hostess seats us at a table for two next to a window looking out on the street. After we've taken our seats, I pick up a menu. I had never really been a fan of Greek food, but I'm not against trying new things usually.
After I stare at it for a few moments, Connor speaks up, "How about I order for you?"
I give him a grateful smile, "That sounds wonderful."
The waitress appears and Connor orders me some dish I have never even heard of, but I trust him when he says it will be good.
"So how do you like work?" He asks, sipping his wine.
"I like it. It's different from other jobs I've had, but good different." I respond, after pausing to think for a few moments.
"I'm glad. It's nice to have a new face around the office." He smiles, "Especially one as beautiful as yours."
