Chapter One
"Yes, Tom." I groan. "Okay, Tom." I answer, as I listen to my brother lecture me through the phone. "Okay, could you listen to me for a second?" I ask, finally growing tired of his lecture. I hear him sigh, frustrated through the phone before he answers, "I guess." Thank the good Lord, I silently praise. "Listen, Tom, I'm twenty-two, I'm pretty sure I can take care of myself. I don't understand why you're so worried." I reassure him.
For the past four years, ever since our parents' death, I have been under the care of my older brother, Thomas Parker. I've toured the country with he and his band mates, known as The Wanted; so I guess you could say I haven't had the most normal teenage years. I won't deny, however, that it's been an amazing experience.
"I know, I know." he admits, "It's just I'm having a hard time believing my baby sister actually has a legit job and is moving to London." I snort, "You didn't think I'd ever have a real job?" He laughs his loud, and slightly annoying laugh through the phone, "Well if I'm honest... I'm just kidding Ellie, you know I'm proud of you."
I smile, I did know he was proud of me. He hadn't actually ever told me he was proud of me, until a few seconds ago, but I can tell from his actions. He never misses an opportunity to inform everyone under the sun of my new job.
Recently, I'd secured a very well paying position at a big name publishing company in London. I hadn't actually believed I would be hired, but the interviewer called me within a few days of my interview and informed me of the surprising news. So here I am currently in route to London, to stay with my brother's band mate, Nathan Sykes.
Nathan and I have always been close during my brother's years with The Wanted. Probably due to the fact that we are close in age, us being the same age. It saddens me, that I haven't seen him since the begining of the boys' break. I am ecstatic, however, at the thought of seeing him in a few minutes.
When Nathan heard of my newly acquired job, he'd generously offered to let me live with him until I could find my own place in London. I think it set Tom at ease to know that Nathan would be watching out for me. Which brings me to my second point: "You shouldn't worry too much, Tom, you know I'll be fine with Nathan around." He laughs again, "Why does that worry me even more?" I roll my eyes, "Tom, shut up."
I had been living with my friend Lilly, from Bolton, before this, but I had recently gone to visit Tom in LA where he and Kelsey, his girlfriend, had been staying.
Butterflies fill my stomach as the cab driver informs me that we were five minutes from my destination. "I'll call you later, I'm almost there." I speak into the phone. "Alright, say hello to Nathan for me." I smiled even though he couldn't see it, "I will." I hang up the phone and slip it into my purse.
"We've arrived, Miss." the cab driver says from the front seat. I thank the driver for the ride, and pull my rather large suitcase out after me. The cab drives off in a trail of exhaust, leaving me alone in front of the massive house. How does one person live in that?
I begin to pull my suitcase along behind me and up to the front door. I press the doorbell next to the door, and wait nervously. I'm quite sure why I was nervous, it was just Nathan. As if almost on cue, the door swings open revealing, the familiar brown haired boy.
"Ellie!" his deep voice exclaims. A smile finds its way to my lips, as I take in the sight before me. In his hand is a cookie pan filled with dark, almost charcoal looking circles. I can't suppress the giggle that escapes my lips. He looks from me to the pan, and chuckles as well.
"Well you see I was craving cookies, but then I got distracted and they kind of... well I guess you can see what happened." he finishes, giving the cookies a disgusted look. "As long as you didn't burn the house down." I giggle.
He grins, "Yeah, I guess things could've been worse." I shake my head, oh how I'd missed this boy. "C'mere, El." he says, opening his arms up. I step into his arms and he envelopes me into a warm hug. I breathe in his amazing scent, and hug him tightly. "I missed you," he mumbles into my hair. He releases me, almost spilling the burnt cookies. "I missed you too, Nath."
