Emma groaned and turned on her side, as she heard her alarm going off, on the side table.
"Aarrgghhh!! Why do I have to get up so early, at 7:00, in the morning?" she bemoaned, as she stretched out her hand to shut off the alarm that has been going off, for quite a while now. She pulled herself up and tried to tame her wild bed hair in a bun.
She hated getting up so early in the morning. But she has to hurry up today or else she is going to be late, on her first day of work.
She got up from her queen size bed, set in the middle of her room, with flowery wall papers covering the walls all around. Blindly, she moved towards her left to the loo, to get freshen up for her new day in office as an assistant to the hotshot CEO, of the Watsal industry, which dealt in hotels, IT, construction, etc. The list was long. This company has dipped its finger in different sectors. It started off with construction and today their name is associated with almost anything and everything.
She was happy that she got this opportunity, to work with Adian Watsal, who is famous for his tenacity, to get what he wants with his honest hard work.
Earlier she used to work as an assistant for a vice President in a mediocre firm. Out of the blue she got a call for the interview of an assistant for Wasali group's new CEO, which she accepted happily and a week later got the appointment call.
Now, a month later here she was getting ready, to start her dream job. If she performs well in this job, she will be promoted to the post of General Manager, being an assistant for the CEO was on trial basis more like an exam to be passed.
"Oh God, I am going to be so late on the first day, if I don't hurry up soon." she cried out while coming out of the loo.
Hurriedly she walked up to her cupboard and yanked out her black business suit with a grey silk shirt and a purple turtle neck to put on. Once she was good to go, she shot out of her house like a bullet and hailed a cab to her office, which was just twenty five minutes away from her place. Throughout the journey she was giving herself prep talk to be calm, efficient and patient assistant.
"It's going to be alright Emma, act confidently and you will do well." she mumbled to herself. As the cab came to stand still in front of the office building, Emma took out her wallet from her purse and gave the money to the cabbie while thanking him for the ride; then raced straight through the entrance to take the elevator to twenty fifth floor where the CEOs office was situated.
As the elevators doors opened, she took a deep breath, straightened her back, pulled her shoulders back and confidently walked to the reception; where a beautiful friendly looking woman was attending the call. She waited for her to finish her call and said confidently "Hi! My name is Emma Kotler; I am the new assistant of the CEO".
"Oh thank God! You are finally here. It's been a madhouse here since last week" the receptionist replied with a smile on her face and asked Emma to follow her.
As they walked through the maze of office, the lady showed Emma the entire layout of the floor and introduced her to few of the other employees, who met them on the way. Suddenly the friendly receptionist said "By the way I forgot to tell you my name." She turned her face towards Emma. "My name is Claire and let me give you a fair warning, there is going to be heap loads of work for you and as for the boss, he's a bit reserved but friendly and easy going, as long as you don't mess up."
They came to a standstill in front of a large glass door Claire opened it and motioned her to move inside.
Inside the room was a huge desk with comfortable looking black chair on one side and on the left to it was another set of doors with the title of CEO, engraved in shimmery gold.
"Here we go. This is your desk and that set of doors is the boss's office make yourself comfortable; boss will be here by 9:30 today. If you need me for anything, give me a call. I am on extension two. See you later" she waved her hand in farewell with a smile and went back to her desk.
"Hmmm that went well, she seemed friendly enough. Well let's hope the boss is that good too. Okay Emma let's get to work" Emma spoke out loud to herself.
She could now understand why Claire said that it's been a mad house. Looking at desk it felt as if a tornado has just passed through. With nothing else to do she decided to sort out the mess which was spread on her new desk. She was filing all the files in alphabetical order humming to herself, when she heard the door swish open and a striking handsome man in a grey suit with blue tie, wavy black hair, set of striking blue eyes and a pointed long nose with perfect set of lips, came striding in with a clear sign on his face which stated 'I am pissed off, steer clear.' He came to a halt as he realised the office wasn't empty.
"Oh I guess you are the new assistant, about damn time." He pursed his lips and looked around "I see you have almost finished with the filing. Once you are done with it, come into my cabin. I want to send out some emails and will also explain you rest the work" he said gruffly.
"Okay sir, I'll be there in ten minutes top-" before she could finish her sentence, Adian was already in his office.
"Damn what a horrible day and I even forgot to ask the new assistant's name. Guess have to apologise to her. Add one more thing to list of crap on this day" Adian Watsal huffed out and sat on his chair gazing at picturesque view of New York City with his deep blue eyes. He needed coffee very badly but couldn't even buzz his assistant for it, as he very rudely didn't even bother to ask her name.
"Way to make a first impression on your new employee. Damn" he said while running his hand through his wavy black hair and opened his laptop to get some work done.
Outside Emma was debating whether to go directly inside or take some coffee for the really pissed off boss. But the issue was she didn't even know how he liked to take his coffee; then like a bulb an idea struck out, she could ask Claire about it.
She heard the extension ring and the vibrant voice of Claire filled her ears "Hello Watsal industries. How may I help you?" I smiled and replied "By telling me how the boss likes to take his coffee, as he seems in really bad mood"
Claire laughed out and said "Notice that. Did we? He takes his coffee black with one sugar, don't worry love by the time you'll take his coffee in his office he'll be back to his normal self; that's his best quality he rarely gets pissed off and if he does he quickly controls his temper." Emma thanked her for the advice and moved to the next room which was like a mini break room with a coffee maker in it.
After preparing the coffee she took a deep breath and prepared herself to face the music.
