A/n the top right picture is where Reina and Nate are talking and the rest are just pictures to help you better visualize what the main treehouse looks like and what a hut would like plus an idea of the inside (:
Reina's POV
"He's dangerous Reina. He'd do anything to keep you to himself." Nate said while looking out into the jungle.
"I-I don't understand. How are you alive?" I asked, standing next to him.
"He threatened me. Told me if I didn't fake my death he'd kill your family, then you and then me. In that order." He replied in gritted teeth.
He was leaning over the fence that secured us from falling a couple hundred feet to our deaths, with his back facing me. I put my hand on it and I could see him visibly relax.
"There's something I've been hiding from you too" he said while standing up.
I slowly backed away, with a look of confusion on my face. He held his hand out but he wasn't pointing it at me, but behind me. I heard a baby coo and someone's footsteps behind me.
The woman walked in front of me, her back towards me and handed the baby to Nate. I could see his face light up, and he smiled as he held the baby in his arms.
"It's been awhile Reina" the woman said, turning around to face me.
"Ariana?" I whispered in disbelief. She was taller and thinner now, with light brown hair. She smiled slightly and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, looking anywhere but at me as if she was scared.
"So it was all a lie? You both never died?"
"No, we had to run away. Start an empire and literally build it from the ground. We're planning on saving every girl from Jack. But you were our first priority Reina. Well at least you were mine." Nate said while handing the child back to Ariana. "She needs to be changed"
Ariana nodded her head and carried the baby gently in her hands as she walked back into the house.
"So that's your child together?" I asked looking at my feet.
"It happened before she faked her death. That's my baby girl, Reina, if it meant having to take Ariana first to protect my unborn child, I'm sorry that's what I'd have to do. I didn't mean to leave you there for such a long time, but I wanted everything perfect for when you came." He replied, stepping closer to me.
I stepped back, stumbling into a hammock.
"I-I just need some time. Please understand that" I said with no emotion before walking out of the house and to the witch doctors hut, passing a few people who were shopping at the outdoor marketplace. When did he have the time to make a whole town?
I knocked on the door, getting impatient after waiting outside for a few minutes. I heard the door unlatch and couldn't see who opened the door because of all the smoke coming out.
"Is Derek here?"
Whoever opened the door coughed loudly and fanned the air in front of him, so he could see who I was.
"Yeah he's in the back" the guy said, opening the door wider so I could come in.
"What's that smell and why is there so much smoke?" I asked, covering my nose with my shirt.
I heard him laugh. "It's weed"
I rolled my eyes and walked outside onto the porch. I could finally breathe and sighed in relief as I saw Derek mixing something in a large clay pot over a fire.
He looked up and smiled at me, motioning me to come next to him. I took a seat beside him and watched as he poured various liquids and herbs into the pot.
"Are you some kind of Doctor?" I asked
"Yeah I guess." He replied putting a top over the pot. "I just know a bit about herbal medicine and the benefits on the body. It's a lot better than that over the counter stuff you'd buy at a store."
"I can't really remember what a store looks like" I replied, looking at the fire.
"Sorry, I forgot. Your whole life was kinda taken from you" he replied, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.
I smiled and looked back at him. We looked at each other in silence. It wasn't awkward at all, he gave off this comfortable vibe and I felt like he truly cared about my well being. Maybe cause he's a doctor Reina.
"Have you eaten yet?" Derek asked me.
"Just an apple this morning"
"Then we have to get you some food asap" he smiled, gesturing at the sky which already had turned a dark blue.
