Chapter One

So yesterday evening's confrontation with Snoke didn't work as well as I'd hoped. According to him, I'm the only one left who has anything teach the new Sith - who is apparently already sufficiently trained, but Snoke wants him to be better than the best: better than me. Seriously? I'm offended. He can't just degrade me like that... But there's nothing I can do if I want to remain on the First Order's 'superiors' list. So here I am, at the main entrance to the Starkiller base waiting to 'lovingly welcome' my new (and only) apprentice aboard. I figured I'd go with the 'intimidating dark warrior' look to put him on edge, so I'm wrapped in my black robes that cover my whole form with the hood pulled up and a dark mask covering my face. I also figured I'd wear some boots with a slight (perhaps more than slight) platform, just in case he was tall. I felt wonderfully powerful, with Darth Maul's lightsaber strapped to my belt.

I was suddenly snapped out of my day-dreaming by the familiar sound of marching Stormtroopers heading my way. I had hoped that Phasma would be here to ease the pain of having to meet someone I'm going to be forced to spend my time with, but unfortunately she had other plans so I am stood here alone. A small convoy of around ten soldiers were escorting a tall darkly clothed figure in my direction, and as they approached, I could sense the Force strengthening around me, and it wasn't my doing. The convoy and dark figure stopped a few metres in front of me, waiting for me to make the first move.

"Get back to your assigned duties, your work here is done," I commanded with a nod of my head, my voice deeper than normal thanks to a sound filter in my mask. As the Stormtroopers scuttled off, I took my time to inspect my new 'apprentice'. Gosh darn he's tall... what is he? Like six foot? I took a step closer and started to circle him slowly. Good build, he should be strong, however... as I stood directly behind him, I observed his hunched shoulders and low-hanging head, and how his arms were slumped at his sides. I gave a hard shove with the palm of my hand right between his shoulder-blades, making his back straighten a considerable amount and adding a good few inches to his height.

"First rule," I spoke sternly, coming to stand in front of him again, "no slouching. You want to be a strong leader and fighter? Stand like one; tall and proud. You don't want the enemy to think the Dark Side is weak, you want to intimidate them. Use your height to your advantage." At my words, he did exactly as I'd instructed; straightening his back and squaring his shoulders, holding his head proudly - a much more authoritative stance. When he spoke, his words were deep, much like my own, perhaps even deeper.

"Yes sir."

...Sir? He thinks I'm a- Oh this is going to be good. So playing along with his miscalculation of my gender, I got right back to the matters at hand.

"As you know, the Supreme Leader has placed you under my wing until he feels that you are ready to start progressing on your own. I respect the the Supreme Leader's wishes, and I will do as he commands, but I just want to get one thing straight; don't get in my way. By all means follow me around like a lost puppy, but I don't want you coming to me with trivial matters. Is that clear?"

"Yes sir," even though his tone was stable, I could feel the Force around him begin to waver.

"Good. Now, come with me, let's begin your combat training right away." And with that I turned on my heel and headed inside, my black robes billowing out behind me in the icy wind.

We entered the Starkiller base and made our way through the complex maze of corridors, our heavy footfalls echoing against the stark white walls. As we neared the training chamber, a rather relevant question popped into my mind that I would most certainly need to know the answer to.

"What is your name?"

"...Ben Solo, sir" the hesitance in his words told me he disliked this name, which will prove to be beneficial.

"Change it."

"E-excuse me?"

I stopped abruptly and turned to face him, his form nearly colliding with mine and our helmets only centimeters apart.

"Change your name. To me, that does not sound like a name to be feared for generations to come. People will soon forget a common name such as 'Ben'. You want be feared and remembered, yes?" I questioned, pointing a gloved finger at his chest.

"Yes, I do sir."

I took a step back. "Good. Now get thinking, I want you to know what you want to be known as by tomorrow evening. Or if you have decided before then, please, inform me."

"Yes sir, of course."

I turned around and continued on our path to the training chamber, which we arrived in front of in a matter of minutes. I unlocked the doors with a six digit passcode and strode in, making my way to a large coat rack and shelf set on the far side of the room. I removed my top layer of robes, leaving myself in a black tunic with a wide leather belt around my middle - to which was strung my lightsaber. Leaving my helmet on, I scanned the room, making sure that there was no one else inside that may prove as a distraction, and luckily we were alone. The room itself was large and rather empty, nothing but a few large training mats on the floor and the coat rack and shelves to deposit belongings.

I drew my lightsaber and walked to stand in the middle of one of the mats in the centre, activating it's red beams. I glanced over to 'Ben', who seemed to be stood by the door still, facing in my direction.

"You can leave your robe over there," I pointed with my weapon, "but leave your helmet on. It wouldn't look good on my report if you were to die in your first session." I couldn't help but tease him a little. Of course I know that I wouldn't kill a fellow Sith, but he doesn't know that. So why not play a few games until he is my equal? I watched him take long strides to the far side of the room, remove and hang up his robe and stride back to me.

"Splendid. Now draw your weapon, it's time to get started."
