Chapter Eight
The ride to the party was a thrill - Kylo was simultaneously trying to touch me to keep Hux away and not touch me to keep our relationship a secret. I mean how does he think that's going to work? He just looks like a crazy man in denial; and it definitely isn't fooling anyone - not even the troopers. I stand and walk over to the ship's large floor-to-ceiling window, resting my head against the glass and looking out at the hypnotising state of space. The vast expanse of blackness has always drawn me in, even long before I was a Sith. Maybe it was a sign of what my real destiny had in store? Being sucked into the void should have made it clearer to myself and others sooner. I would lay there for hours outside, just staring up, sometimes counting the stars, sometimes... just looking for anything that could give me hope. Maz just thought it was my 'childlike curiosity' and passed it off as nothing.
Stupid woman.
Despite how far our Empire reaches, there are still planets out there that we haven't heard of or claimed for our own, still blissfully unaware of the real state of the universe and how far it still has to go. I still have those daydreams when I'm alone, just looking out my bedroom window and pondering on all the things I wish to accomplish in my current position in the Order. And sometimes, like when I was a child, I still count the stars.
I'm pulled from my daydream when I hear footsteps behind me and a hand touch my waist. I smirk and say in a sly tone;
"Kylo you need to stop before everyone rea-"
My eyes widen in shock as I realise it isn't Kylo, but the slime-man himself with a stupid smug grin on his stupid face.
"Expecting someone else were we?" he says with a sly grin, quirking an eyebrow.
I scowl up at him, suddenly very excited to get home and put that hair removal cream in his shampoo.
Just you wait you bald twat.
"Wasn't it clear? I was expecting Kylo. Why would I ever greet you with a smile on my face?"
"And why would you greet him specifically with one?"
"Because I don't like you."
Hux feigned hurt, that shit-eating grin still plastered on his face as he walked around to stand in front of me.
"Why not? What have I done wrong?"
"You just have one of those faces. I wanna punch it."
"How rude."
"Where's Kylo?" I finally try and break away from our dumb chit chat and search the room, not seeing him anywhere. If he were here, Hux would be out of the air lock by now.
He rolled his eyes at my question.
"He's having a last minute briefing with Snoke up on the bridge. I'm sure he'll be back here and in your arms shortly~" the sickly bastard winked at me before turning to walk away, aggravating me even more. I could feel myself getting more and more pissed off by him each second.
Why does he have to be such an inconceivable little snake?! Everything about him pisses me off - his face, how he walks and especially how he talks. Why is someone like him even here? He's never been on a field mission; he's a goddamn pencil pusher! And why, oh lord WHY is it HIM that has to be my escort?!
The force around me started to quiver from my frustration and in a split second of rage I reached out with my fingers spread wide towards an armchair in the centre of the room, like I was attached to it with an imaginary thread. Using the force I rapidly lifted the chair into the air, crashing it against the ceiling before lowering my arm and crashing it into the floor a split second later. Splinters and fabric had already started to fly and Hux scampered across the floor to cower behind a group of StormTroopers who had grouped in the corner of the room by the supposed 'mini bar'. I flung the chair around a few more times before abruptly stopping it in the middle of the room and hung it there for a nanosecond before clenching my fist shut out in front of me. As I did this, the chair burst into thousands of sharp splinters firing out in all directions from the core. I braced for them to pierce my skin, but the pain never came. I looked around the room like a rabbit in the headlights, searching for answers as to why the remains of this chair were now suspended mid air, like someone had pressed a pause button on the scene of a movie. It wasn't long before I found my answer: Kylo was standing at the top of the stairs leading up to the bridge, a look of confused panic spread across his sharp features. I could see him breathing heavily, like he ran to get here; his chest rising and falling in time with mine. He had his fist outstretched, still holding the broken furniture in place as he slowly made his way down the stairs towards me, his dark eyes not once leaving mine as he waded through the razor sharp splinters as if they were grass in a field. The whole room was silent, watching his every move like a swarm of hawks. The moment he stopped in front of me, an arm's reach away, he released his grasp on the force that kept the debris in place, letting it all crash to the floor.
"Whose fault is this?" he asked sternly, a sudden dark look flashing across his gaze as he clenched his jaw. I looked at him, slightly confused.
"What do you mean? You literally watched me tear this apart, and so did everyone else aboard this wretched ship"
"No," He gritted his teeth "I meant who pissed you off."
The room grew still. I gazed back at him for a few moments before I chuckled darkly, running my fingers through my hair before smirking, looking in Hux's direction.
"Who do you think?"
Kylo whipped around towards Hux's position by the bar, a sickening grin igniting on his face. He took a step forward, his heavy step echoing around the room like the beat of a drum. Kylo was looking down at the floor, his dark locks hiding his almost manic expression and his hands were clenched into fists as he ground his knuckles together. He took another deafening step forward before snapping his head up.
"You couldn't do it could you?" he taunted, taking long, slow steps over to the bar. "You couldn't leave her alone for just a couple of hours. Fuck, you couldn't even leave her alone for the 20 minutes I was out of the room!" Kylo shakes his head, walking up to the bar whilst reaching for a sleek black bar stool, grabbing it by the base like a club and grinning like a mad man.
The instant he had a weapon in hand, the StormTroopers fled the area, leaving a snivelling Hux practically quivering in his boots.
"I-I-I-I didn't know she'd get so a-angry!" he stuttered, backing away from Kylo who was now almost looming over him. Kylo snickered.
"You didn't know? It's not exactly a secret that she has a short fuse, especially where you're concerned," he grips the stool by the base and shoves the top into Hux's stomach, winding him and pushing him to the ground. "Why were you so eager to rile her up this time, hm? I don't suppose it's because this is the first time you've seen her dressed like this, out of uniform and without weapons?" Kylo gives a hard shove and slides Hux along the floor, pinning him to the wall.
"W-what?! No! I-i-it has nothing to do with th-" Hux chattered out before the bar stool seat was pushed even harder against him, making him wince.
"Don't fucking lie to me," Kylo hissed before taking a step back and glancing back over at me. "Do you want to know what my private brief with Snoke was about?"
Hux looked a little taken aback by his question. "I mean I-I-I don't need to k-kn-"
"I said 'do you WANT to know?!" Kylo snapped, lifting the bar stool and flinging it behind him across the room like it didn't weigh more than a couch cushion, not looking at where it might crash to the floor.
"O-ok!"
Kylo crouched down onto his level, and from this distance I could really tell how much broader and taller he was compared to the cowering General. He looked like a wolf about to devour his prey. The rest of the room was silent, ready for him to speak. So silent, in fact, that we could now hear the gentle dripping of the tap behind the bar.
"Snoke wanted to express how important it is for me to not kill you."
Hux let out a small whimper as Kylo got in his face.
"So thank your lucky stars that he told me in time."
