Hey guys!
So basically (like I warned earlier) this past week has been super busy for me because it is the end of the quarter for my school, so the teachers were bombarding us with all these quizzes and tests. I also have had soccer practice everyday, so with all of this happening I haven't had a chance to update. So anyways, I was feeling the need to add a lot of detail into this chapter so it's pretty long! Chris still isn't introduced yet, but Jenna becomes closer to Collin. Plus, I had a little fun with the details on babysitting; to the point where it can get kinda gross... Anyways, I hope you guys like it!!! :)~adsting01
The warm water slides down my back and swirls down into the drain below me. I stare at the blackness inside of my eyelids. I hear the hushed sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks, the sounds dulled by the heavy melody of the water droplets shattering against the shower tiles. I open my eyes and am greeted with a warm light peeking through my shower curtains. I reach out to the shower handle and turn it to the right, ruining my blanket of warmth. I step out of the shower, my toes curling up from the bitter, cold surface of the floor, and I wrap a towel around my toned body. I peer into the mirror. My reflection stares back at me. My heart-shaped face and my dimpled smile disappear before my eyes as I glance away from the mirror. Today is going to be a good day.
I check my phone for the time. 7:00 A.M. Three more hours until I take my daily walk to the shack! Ooh, I'm so excited! However, I have some time to kill. I brush out my long, wet hair. It has been five days since my first brunch at Emily's. Every day since then, I have gone to bother that really cute waiter named Collin. Yeah, I know, I have a boyfriend. So? If I am going to be stuck in Hawaii for the whole summer I might as well have a little fun. Plus, I think Collin and I are friends n—"Hey Jenna?" Aunt Heather's warm voice fills the room. Man, I was feeling so deep today!
"Yeah?" I lean across my bed, cranking my head so I could see out the doorway.
"I'm going to go ahead and head to work. You've got baby Jackson under control, yeah?" Aunt Heather raises her eyebrows and gives me the questioning stare. Yeah that's right, the one where she stares at you with her pretty, little face until you answer her question.
"Yep! I'm all good here!" I reply, dashing all of her worries aside. Aunt Heather does one of those closed mouth smiles and then walks away. Her arms swaying, simultaneously, as her long legs moved back and forth.
I collapse back on my bed and listen to the crackly noises of the baby monitor. The noises are so soothing and I haven't been getting much sleep lately. I mean I am only getting ten hours a night, at most. I gently close my eyelids, and I succumb to the darkness behind my eyelids.
._______.
"Waaaaa! Ahhhh! Whaaaaaa!" The shrieking sounds crackling from the baby monitor jolt me awake. Great. I sit up, rubbing my half-closed eyes. I roll out of bed and follow the screams into Jackson's room. A light-blue digital clock hangs above the crib. 8:57 A.M. Oh geez, my nap was longer than I had thought! I lift up the crying chubby baby and cradle him while I go and ready a bottle. Time stretches in the few seconds it takes for the formula to mix. Jackson's pudgy red face just keeps screaming and screaming, any more screaming and I'm afraid he'll scream his head off. The red light finally lights up signaling me to pop the bottle in the baby's mouth. The baby finally shuts up. Yes! I'm so good at this! I feed Jackson the baby bottle for a couple of more minutes before doing the most horrific task of the day. Changing his diaper.
I set baby Jackson on the changing table and reach into the drawer to grab the cleaning wipes and clean diaper. This is going to be so gross! This is going to be so gross! But... I might as well get it over with so I don't have to do it later. I pull out a wipe slowly, procrastinating to change his diaper. That's right, I'm the expert at procrastination. I unlatch the front of his dirty diaper and peer beneath it. Bleh! Ew! Ew! Ew! Ew! Ew! Ew! Ewwwww! I swallow down the puke that is rising in my throat.
