Hey so I've been inactive for a while, but I have a good reason I promise! So please forgive me! I got a concussion like 2 months ago which took me about a month to recover from. After the concussion I was planning on continuing writing this story but I kinda experienced writer's block and just couldn't get this chapter out there. However, I knew I couldn't just give up on this story. So I finally sat down and wrote this chapter out. I think it should be a pretty interesting chapter but tell me what you guys think about it at the end!!!
Sorry it's so late!!!
Adsting01Half an hour later a swelling cloud mixed with sweat and humidity hovers just above the twenty-to-thirty drinking minors—all of which are too engrossed in their dancing to give a damn about the billowing mass forming over their heads. The large living room seems small thanks to the mosh pit that has started to shape in the center of the room, and beer cans and bottles lay on the floor. Alternative rock music pounds through the house, and the dim lighting makes the room just perfect for an eerie scene to unfold. Making this the perfect place for a typical high school party.
I lean on a nearby table with a drink in one hand and wait. Back in the olden days I never would have just sat here and waited for something to happen or for somebody to come up to me, because if I had, I would have ended up sitting here the whole night. However things changed, people actually come up to me now, and I'm not going to make a fool of myself and follow people around all night. Instead, they are going to follow me around. I raise the drink I'm holding to my lips and the cold flavor sizzles in my mouth. "Hi!" Somebody taps my shoulder.
"Hi?" I spin around in one swift motion, not a drop from the beer in my hand spills and I internally pat myself on the back. It took me several tries in my room to master this technique, and it gets them every time.
A wide-eyed pretty brunette stands in front of me, her brown eyes practically popping out of her head. Hmm... I recognize her from somewhere. "Woah! How'd you do that?"
"Like this!" I give her a toothy grin and turn on my heel. My drink sloshes a bit as I complete my quick spin but I didn't spill a drop. Oh yeah, she's one of the surfers I saw on my first day here!
"Teach me! Teach me!" The brunette says playfully in a high-pitched voice as she tries to repeat the motions I just made. I try to stifle the giggle rising up from my throat when she ends up spilling her drink al over her designer clothes. "Aww c'mon, now you have to teach me!"
Okay I can't help it now, I start to crack up. She gives me a weird look, bends her head back, and starts laughing too! We keep laughing for a solid two minutes and then I decide I will actually help her. I mean come on, she needs all the help she can get. "First off, your stance is all wrong. You start off like this." I reposition her so she is sideways and lead her through a series of steps in order to complete the endeavor.
After an hour, twenty-three attempts, and three laugh attacks, the girl finally manages to perfect my move. I thought I'd feel a small bit of anger towards the brunette for mastering the move, but surprisingly I am just as proud as her that she mastered it. Throughout the hour I also learn that the brunette's name is Grace and she is a junior at a nearby high school. Maybe it's because we have a 'we're the two hottest girls in the room' type of bond, or maybe it's because we have a similar style in clothing, but I can already tell we are going to be good friends. It also turns out that most of the people at the party are members of a high-maintenance surf club by Emily's so they already all know each other, except for me. I was the odd man out. I don't even know how to surf. Awkward.
Grace is midway through explaining where all the best places to go around town are when everybody in the room, including Grace, raises their glasses in the air and starts hooting and hollering at someone standing next to what I believe to be the kitchen's doorway. Everybody in the room seems to gravitate towards the shadowy figure and a small crowd starts to surround whoever it is. Because of this I can't barely see whoever this big shot is, and it really pisses me off. So I decide to do something about it.
I nudge Grace to get her attention away from all the hollering, "who's the big shot?" I whisper loudly so she can hear me over all the yelling.
"Chris Williams. Not only is he the best surfer here and ranked #2 nationally, but he also has the hottest bod I've ever seen," Grace winks at me.
"I don't understand how you would even be able to see him if he always has this large of a crowd around him." Back at home, I was the 'it' person. I always had a crowd swarming me. Before whoever this Chris Williams guy showed up I even had started to attract a crowd here. However, whenever this dude appeared, the crowd surrounding me ran over to him. And that makes me pissed. More pissed than I was even earlier when I figured out that my boyfriend-for-two-months was making out with another girl. Getting my now ex boyfriend, and also ex best friend, to pay for what they had done was easy. I just made a couple of calls and bam their social lives and relationships were down the drain. Doing the same for this big shot and getting to the top of the social life here, however, is going to be hard af.
Grace grins, "You wanna know how I get a look at him? Like this!" She grabs my hand and starts to drag me into the growing crowd.
"Grace! Slow down!" At the rate we are going at I can already tell I'm going to bump into someone. Sure enough, I was right.
Something ice cold splashes across my back and a high-pitched screech emerges behind me, "WHAT THE HELL?!"
I spin around right into a pissed off looking dirty-blonde chic. I can feel just about everybody in the room's eyes trained on me, if I want to have a chance to rise in the popularity ranking here then I need to appear confident, cool, and collected. "Sorry, I guess I didn't see you there," I shrugged, purposely trying to pull off the innocent vibe.
The girl narrows her eyes and scoffs. Gosh, I hate her already. She's one of those little wannabes who think they are so perfect and will do everything in their power to get more popular. Eh, she's not worth my time right now, I'll give her what she deserves later.
I'm busy plotting how I'll get my revenge on that little bitch when Grace tugs on my hand. "Come on let's go get you cleaned up."
I look down at my drenched white shorts that are almost see-through now thanks to that blonde chick. "You know what?" I tell Grace.
"Hmm?" She half-heartedly asks, paying more attention to leading me towards the bathroom to clean myself up. I dig my heels in the ground and pull back stopping her.
"I think I'm rockin' these shorts and whatever this shit is that the girl spilled on me," I pause and gesture to my shorts that are currently sticking to my legs, "just adds flare to my outfit."
Grace grins and bumps my shoulder, "I like the way you think, Jen!" With that stated, we walk back into the living room and start dancing.
I feel people's stares drilling holes into my back as I walk back into the dance floor. People are either dumbstruck that I was brave enough to walk back in here with near see-through shorts on, or pissed off because they are one of Blondie's friends and I am courageous enough to defy her. No matter how much some people want their glares to bother me, they don't. I've gotten used to the dumbfounded expressions that people give me, I mean that's what popularity does to you. It shapes you into a person that doesn't give a crap about what anybody thinks and it lets you do whatever you want. It's a win-win situation. The only downside, however, is that it sometimes gets you into some deep, deep trouble. And I guess now is one of those times.
Sooooo...
Did you guys like it?
