Poe Dameron decided today was the day. Confident and dashing, he was going to ask Lux out on a date. She was hands down the prettiest girl around D'Qar. She had turned down most of the pilots that Poe knew that had asked her out but there was no way she was going to turn down the best pilot in the fleet.
"She'll never say yes," Daen Hasra told him shaking his head. "She hasn't said yes to one person since she's moved here to D'Qar."
"That's because I haven't asked her," Poe said with a confident grin.
"You're so full of yourself," Daen said chuckling "I literally cannot wait for her to turn you down."
Poe shook his head. "Won't happen."
"Want to bet?" Daen asked.
"What? Bet on a girl?" Poe replied "That's never ever a good idea and sure fire way to get yourself in trouble when they find out."
"Well you're so confident...I feel like I should be making some money out of this."
"Not today my friend," Poe clapped him on the back "Now get out of here. She'll be headed this way any minute."
So that's why he was standing in the corridor waiting for her to make the trip back to the command center after the morning meetings.
Lux walked down the hall with a shorter blonde that Poe didn't recognize and he almost abandoned the mission until he caught her alone but Daen's sarcastic smirk from his post stopped him.
"Now or never Dameron,"he muttered to himself as he stepped directly into Lux's path.
She didn't see him and dropped the papers she was holding."Oh my Gosh Lieutenant," Poe said quickly as he bent to help her gather the mess up"I'm sorry. I didn't see you there."
Lux frowned as she took the papers he offered. "I'm sure Dameron."
She knew his name. That was a good sign. "Really," he said as they stood "I feel terrible."
"Not that big of a deal," she waved her hand dismissively "Already forgotten. As you were." She began to walk away and Poe saw his chance slipping away.
"Look Lieutenant," he called after her but she continued to walk. Her companion looked at Poe amused but didn't stop. "Wait...seriously...I'm trying to talk to you...will you stop?"
Lux halted exasperated. "Talk about what?"
Her green eyes focused intently on him and he grew nervous suddenly. "Well I wanted to ask you something."
Her eyebrows crashed together "Really? Let me save you some time... No it didn't hurt when I fell from the Heavens...and no I don't want a little pilot in me...and no I'm not from Tennessee...I've never even been to Earth. You see Dameron, I've heard them all so unless you've got a new pick up line that is actually clever and makes sense, I'm not interested." He laughed and it made her more than a little uncomfortable. That wasn't usually the reaction she got when she turned down a date. "What's so funny?"
He smirked handsomely "What's funny is that you'd think that I'd use some of those lame lines? Seriously do I look lame to you."
Ben's face flashed before her, the last time she'd seen him....she'd called him lame...and then they'd kissed...it was a memory she visited often but she quickly pushed it away and resumed her pace "You don't want me to answer that, Dameron. Now is that all or are you going to bore me with some other nonsense."
He fell into step with her again. "Are you always this pleasant in the morning?"
"Only when simple minded pilots get it stuck in their head that women will fall at their feet because of their extraordinary flying ability," she retorted.
