"Charlie, will you take your sister to the park? You saw it on the way here," my mom called from the living room.
I sighed, dropping yet another box on my bed. Moving sucks.
Especially when it's across a freaking ocean.
"Yeah," I responded, grabbing my Converse and checking my reflection in my dresser mirror.
I trooped down the steps (why the heck are they all so narrow over here?) and met my little sister Nessa at the front door. She was jumping up and down, giggling as she grabbed my hand and reached for the door handle. I beat her to it, twisting the knob and pushing the door open.
Nessa dashed out onto the sidewalk, her arms out wide like an airplane. I chuckled at her, and chased the little girl down the way to the park.
"Charlie, I wanna do swings," Nessa said, holding her arms up for me to grab.
"Alright, Ness, but just for a little," I agreed, picking the five year old up and setting her on the swing. She knew how to do the rest; swinging was one of the first things I had taught her.
I sat down on a bench next to another girl, smiling.
"You new?" She asked, her eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, how did you know?" I wondered, frowning a little.
"Haven't seen you around," she said vaguely. "I'm Olivia."
"Charlotte," I said, extending my hand. "But everyone calls me Charlie."
She took my hand, grinning. We went back to watching our respective children, until some movement at the park entrance caught my eye.
Five boys stood at the gate, watching Olivia and I.
"Olivia," I said, nudging her. "Are they watching us?" I nodded my head in the direction of the boys.
She gasped. "They are."
"Um, who are they?" I asked.
"They're the main gang of this town. Call themselves One Direction. This is exciting!" Olivia gushed.
"How is being watched creepily by five boys exciting?" I wondered, confused as hell.
"They're gorgeous. Only choose the best girls. Always get what they want. They're to DIE for."
I glanced back at the gang. I did see what Olivia was talking about. They were attractive. Not just attractive, they were hot.
I didn't understand why being hunted by a gang was a good thing, though.
"Aren't they an actual gang? Like, hurt people and such?"
"Oh yeah, all the time. Stay on their good side, you'll be fine," Olivia waved dismissively, her eyes trained on the boys, drool practically falling from her mouth.
I shook my head at her, rolling my eyes.
Nessa and I had been at the park for about an hour when Olivia had to leave. She was disappointed that the boys hadn't come over to talk to us, but was excited enough they were looking our way.
Soon, I sat on the bench alone, watching Nessa continue to swing.
Until the boys decided it would be a fantastic idea to walk over to me.
Note my sarcasm.
"Hey," the tallest one, with dark brown curls said.
"Hello," I replied politely.
"Can we sit?" The blonde one asked, but they all sat down either on the bench next to me or on the ground in front before I could answer.
The curly haired one threw an arm over my shoulders. I removed it. He raised his eyebrows.
"I'm Harry," he said.
"Good for you," I snapped, getting fed up with their game.
"Aren't you going to tell me your name?" Harry asked, playing with a strand of my hair.
"No," I slapped his hand away.
"Fair enough," Harry chuckled. "The blonde one there is Niall, short light brown Liam, longer light brown Louis, and dark brown Zayn."
I nodded at them, focusing back on Nessa.
"She your kid?" Zayn inquired.
I looked down at him sharply. "What? No. She's my sister."
He nodded, staring into my eyes. I looked away.
"What about you drop her back off at home, and you can come with us to eat or something?" Louis said, smirking.
I stood abruptly. "Nessa!" I called. "We're leaving."
"But Charlieeee," she whined, hopping off the swing.
"Charlie, huh? Short for Charlotte I suppose?" Liam said smoothly, leaning back against the bench.
I glared at him. "Nessa, let's go," I said, stepping over the boys on the grass and picking the little girl up.
"Why?" She asked.
"Yeah, Charlie, why?" Harry teased, sneaking an arm around my waist as I walked. I spun out of it, picking up my pace a little.
"Leave us alone," I growled at the boys.
Harry held his hands up in defense. "Alright, Charlie. You don't have to be such a bitch about it."
I gritted my teeth, panicking. My heart pounded, and I was sure the boys could hear it.
Just as I thought they had left, Harry's curls brushed my cheek. I whirled around, seeing him grin cheekily at his mates.
"Sorry, Charlie. Just couldn't help myself," he said.
"I told you to leave us alone," I said, but my voice didn't even convince me anymore.
Harry smirked. "I got dibs," he called to his mates.
"Now, Harry. You know how we do new meat. You can call dibs after we all have our first turn with her," Zayn said, grinning.
"That's right, I forgot," Harry said, without taking his eyes off me. He still wore the same cheeky smirk as before.
"I'm not going to be any of yours," I said, my voice shaky. Nessa played with my hair, unaware of what was happening.
"I doubt that," Liam said, shaking his head smiling.
We had finally reached our house. The boys stopped on the street, watching us as I walked up the steps to the door.
"I'm not going to belong to any of you," I repeated, opening the door.
"Yes you will," Harry said slyly. "You'll see."
