I rested my feet on the coffee table while I heard my mum bustle around the kitchen preparing who knows what. Liz sat on the other side of me as we watched the TV.
"Not too long now." She smiled to me.
"No." I sighed running my belly. "Not long now. I'm looking forward to being a mother though. It sounds very exciting."
"Oh it is!" Liz laughed. "Especially watching your children achieve something great. Whether it be writing a book, painting a piece of art or even performing to thousands. Seeing them happy makes you happy."
"I'm just worried I'm not going to be able to do it correctly. Like I'll mess it up somehow." I let out a deep breath.
"That's how I felt with you." Mum walked over to us. "I didn't have a clue what I was doing, same with your father. But I just tried in all my power to make you happy, regardless of the price. And look where one of them got you! Travelling the world, with the man of your dreams and a kid on the way! If it wasn't meant to be, it would be fine with me and if be there to help you through it. Liz and I both know how to raise kids so we will be happy to help you both out." She smiled and gave me a hug. She was about to say something else when the door rang.
"I'll get it." Liz smiled getting up and heading to the door.
"Mum, I'm scared." I said honestly. She came and sat next to me, putting a arm around my shoulders.
"About what dear?"
"Looking after a child. I love the thought of being a mum, but it's another human being, that I've created. It's so much responsibility."
"It'll come naturally to you, I can guarantee it and you know—"
"Bree? Mary?" I heard a male voice say. I sat up as he turned the corner. Something seemed familiar about him, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I looked to mum who seemed to be stuck on who he was also. "You don't remember me?" She stood up from the couch to greet him.
"Who are you?" Mum asked calmly.
"It's me. Pete." His name hit me like a tonne of bricks. It was my father. Mum took a small step towards me.
"What are you doing here. And how did you find us?" Mum spat.
"You are famous now. It's not too difficult to find where you are. I need help. My wife, she wants a divorce and I'm in debt. Lots of debt, that is have no chance of giving back in the time they want it."
"Why should we help you?" I question. He looked stuck on his answer so I continued. "We are more than happy here without you." I stood up from the couch, and when he saw my stomach his eyes widened. "You told me that music wasn't a good career choice. That Luke was bad for me and you didn't trust him. That I'd scare him away with my illness. I'm in one of the biggest bands in the world, touring for months. I married Luke and now we have a kid on the way. My illness has disappeared, just as the hospital said it would. I couldn't be happier."
"You're pregnant?" He said amazed.
"Well done Mr Obvious." I glared.
"Pets, we want nothing to do with you. Ever. You put divorce forms on our kitchen bench when you got back home. I filled them out and now have nothing to give you. We also filed that letter away that you left us, as proof of your detachment. We owe you nothing."
"Please Mary. We were married for how long?"
"20 years. And at the first sign of our daughter getting better, feeling better because of a boy. You didn't want anything to do with it so you left. Bree's happiness was most important to me, and it should have been for you too but you left us. You didn't try and help Belinda through Harmony's death. You didn't come to Bree's wedding, and why was that? You want nothing to do with us. Just leave Pete."
"But I need your help Mary." He said softly.
"And I don't want to give it. Liz?"
"This way Pete. I'll show you the front door." He turned the corner before coming back to face us one more time.
"All of this was still a mistake. You lives are going to turn sour and then you'll come running to me."
"Highly unlikely. Bye Pete." I called and then heard the door shut.
"You should call Luke." Mum looked to me.
"I don't want to worry him about this right now. I'll tell him in the morning."
"I didn't mean about that. You said you were scared, Luke probably has the same feelings. Tell him, don't keep secrets from him." I nodded my head and walked to my room, shutting the door and pulling out my phone.
Hey Luke. Can you Skype?
Bree! Just finished. Good timing :D just heading back to the hotel. I'll Skype you when I'm in. Turn yours on while you're waiting.
Sure thing sweetie. See you soon!
I turned on Skype on the TV and waited for the call to come through. Cooper sat on my lap, pressing up against my stomach.
The call came through and I accepted it. His face showing up on the screen.
"Aren't you beautiful." He smiled. "Hi honey."
"Hey Luke." I smiled.
"Everything alright?"
"I'm scared." I said softly, not meeting his eyes. "I'm scared about how to become a mother. I love the idea of it, but we have no idea what we're doing."
"I must admit I have the same feelings. I've become more worried about this since we got separated. I guess my main fear along side that, is that you're going to go into labour while I'm still on tour."
"I've been getting that thought too. What happens if we aren't cut out for this? Like we ruin it's life or something?" I tear rolled down my cheek.
"I wish I could just tell you that everything would be alright and we'd figure it out step by step. Take every day as it comes. We can do that, can't we?"
"Of course. I just want to be near you again." I saw the door behind Luke open and the boys came running in.
"Luke tonight was amazing!" Calum yelled. "We move venues tomorrow night."
"That's cool guys." He smiled and then looked back to me.
"Bree! Can't believe we just barged in here. I'm so sorry." Ashton apologised.
"It's fine boys. You couldn't of know anyway."
"Well this is my room you know." Luke laughed to them.
"We'll leave you two in peace. Say hi to the mothers for us!" Michael called out before shutting the door.
"Anything else happen today?" He asked me.
"One thing. My dad came back." His face twisted just thinking about my dad. I began telling him what he said to us. Why he came and how he expected us to help him. And then his threat before he left. "Please don't do anything rash. We got rid of him."
"But he still expected those things from you."
"Luke it's fine. We can handle it. I just didn't want to keep it a secret from you. That's all."
"If you're sure. I just hate not being able to help you."
"Trust me dear, I wish you were with me, I really do. But your tour is over in roughly two months and then we'll see each other again. Soon after that this little one will be born. Everything is flowing slowly and steadily. If it was going too fast I wouldn't be able to cope without you."
"I love you Bree."
