We spent the day relaxing out the back while the boys cooked a BBQ for lunch. It was a very Australian occasion, cricket in the backyard, beers passed around, fire and great company. The weather was warm and perfect, even though everyone would be leaving me tonight for three months.

"Luke." I called to him and he walked over, his beer in hand. "I know what I want to do today." It was before lunch and they're already cracking open the beer case.

"Yeah? What's that?" He said and sat down next to me.

"Since you are leaving me for three months, I'm going to get very lonely in our big house by myself. So what I want to do is go to the RSPCA and adopt a puppy." He pursed his lips before responding.

"I guess we could, I've only had half of my beer so I can drive. But you have to make sure you are going to look after it while we are gone."

"Of course I will! Who do you think I am?" I joked, and he rolled his eyes.

"I'll go and grab the car keys." He kissed my head and walked back inside. I pulled myself out of the chair and began walking towards the front yard where our car was parked. He opened my door and helped me in before getting himself.

"How are you going to get to your appointments while I'm gone?" He questioned while pulling out of the drive way. "You can't drive. Not in your current state."

"My mother, and possibly your mother will spending a lot of their time with me. They have both become very close and I honestly don't know how they spend their days normally. But someone will always just be around the corner for me to call." I said reaching over and placing my hand on his arm. "I will call you every night. I promise that I will be fine."

We pulled up and walked inside and straight to the section of puppies. I walked up and down the cages and waited to find one that jumped out to me, one that I know I want. I walked to a cage with a tiny puppy in a big bed at the back of the cage in the corner. I looked on the outside of the cage and said it was an Australian Shepherd, and was part of a litter that was left in a box on the side of the road and only 4 months old.

"Can I please look at this one?" I asked the man walking with us. He smiled and unlocked the cage. The puppy turned around and looked at us, it's bright blue eyes full of worry and confusion. It slowly sat up and walked to us cautiously, I kneeled down to be more at it's height while Luke helped me to the ground. It approached me, sniffing my hand and cuddling up to my stomach. "Luke, I love him. Can I get him?"

"We'll take this one please." He smiled to the man and helped me up before the man placed the puppy in my arms.

"I'll go and get the adoption papers." He said and lead us back to the front desk. "What would you like to name him?"

"Cooper." I smiled looking at the puppy who had just fallen asleep in my arms. Luke helped to fill out the rest of the paper work before helping me back in the car. "At least I'll have something to mother while you're gone." I teased.

"Just don't put clothes on it please." He laughed.

"No promises." I smiled as he started up the car.

When we arrived everyone surrounded us with the new puppy, it still asleep. "I can't leave it at home while we go to the airport." I told Luke realising what the time was.

"Fine, just bring a blanket so it can be warm." Luke smiled, kissing my head. "I'm going to go and get my bags, the vans will be soon." He walked away and the boys left to go and collect their bags from the cars and then return to us in the back yard.
